Voting for Jhon's Gliscor

Chemcoop said it all: Even though it has to watch out for WP sets, Gliscor can out-mind game the mind game mon and just safely hide behind a sub or force Aegi into Blade forme, and Toxic Heal shuts down SubToxic sets completly.

Gonna vote for The Squash's Mega-Charizard Y. We've got plenty of defensive answers, but few of them can use Aegislash to reverse the momentum and give you the edge in battle like Megazard-Y does. Diggersby comes as a close second.

Voting for chemcoop's Diggersby. The only thing better than a meme-friendly mon is one that's also pretty good. This thing destroys Aegislash and a ton of other things. Definitely something I want to try out in the future.

ThickFatAzumarill's Hippowdon this is my vote. It is a good vote. Zard-Y by The Squash is a good option even though The Squash is a scrub, however that one poll was specifically about a rock paper scissors match in which a Hippowdon and a Aegislash were pitted against each other in a battle to the death, which sways my vote toward our hippopotamus fan-base. Such is my reasoning to cast my ballot for the Azumarill who has some "thick fat" and their Hippo friend.

Honestly a choice between Zard-Y and Gliscor for me here. Gliscor is pretty unique as a defensive answer and works really well against Aegislash but I like Zard-Y here more as a check so I'm gonna vote for The Squash's Mega Charizard-Y. Although it's been mentioned before, I feel like the momentum that Zard-Y provides once it gets in on Aegislash is one thing that gives it an edge over Gliscor. Not many things can switch into Zard-Y safely due to its wallbreaking power under the sun which is pretty scary too.

The Squash's Mega-Charizard Y

Its one of the few answers that can win 1v1 without losing momentum like Hippowdown and is easy to fit on teams, unlike Diggersby.

Congratulations to The Squash for winning VoTW 16 (Aegislash) with your submission of Mega-Charizard Y! Your post will be logged into the archive.
Victim of the week #17 - Nihilego

Nihilego is an extremely anti metagame pokemon right now. It's been a popular submission in many Victim Of The Week editions, but is now getting victimised itself. Despite being a relatively slept on pokemon, Nihilego really shines. A choice scarf set coupled with great STAB typing as well as good coverage options allows Nihilego to check a plethora of metagame threats, including offensive Fairy / Fire / Flying-types. Choice scarf is the most popular set, however Focus Sash variants allow Nihilego to be a great Stealth Rock seter, and Life Orb variants are certainly not to be taken lightly either. So, how do you deal with Nihilego?
Submissions are open and will be closed in four days from now. Best of luck everyone!

Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Sassy Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Gyro Ball
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Explosion/Stealth Rock
- Trick Room

Other than being an excellent meme, Bronzong is a bulky Trick Room setter and has an excellent combination of typing and ability, leaving it immune to the likes of Sludge Wave and Hidden Power Ground while resisting Power Gem. Its low speed allows it to KO Nihilego with Gyro Ball or it can use the aformentioned Trick Room to turn Nihilego's excellent Speed against it.

Defensive Calcs:
252 SpA Nihilego Power Gem vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Bronzong: 22-27 (12.6 - 15.5%) -- possible 7HKO
252 SpA Nihilego Hidden Power Fire vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Occa Berry Bronzong: 22-27 (12.6 - 15.5%) -- possible 7HKO
252 SpA Nihilego Thunderbolt vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Bronzong: 34-40 (19.5 - 22.9%) -- possible 5HKO

Offensive Calcs:
4 Atk Bronzong Gyro Ball (125 BP) vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Nihilego: 234-276 (126.4 - 149.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Other than Nihilego, Bronzong's typing lets it deal with Fairy- and Dragon-types such as Tapu Lele, Garchomp, and Mega Salamence, while access to Trick Room and Explosion makes it a great lead on Trick Room teams. It can also carry Stealth Rock if needed.

Metagross @ Metagrossite
Ability: Clear Body
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Iron Head
- Earthquake
- Bullet Punch / Zen Headbutt
- Ice Punch / Thunder Punch

There isn't that much to say. It can come in on Power Gems and Sludge Waves, and even Thunderbolts. Originally, I was going to go Ferrothorn, but that can lose to HP Fire Nihilegos. Metagross doesn't care all that much about HP Fire.

252 SpA Nihilego Hidden Power Fire vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Metagross: 74-88 (47.7 - 56.7%) -- 82.8% chance to 2HKO

Metagross can rest assured as it is faster than Nihilego. If Nihilego is Scarfed, then you can also rest easy because you know it won't be able to change moves, and you can go to something else that resists Fire. But if Nihilego is even slightly chipped, you can take it out with Bullet Punch.

252 Atk Metagross Bullet Punch vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Nihilego: 128-152 (69.1 - 82.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Those are all the relevant calcs, as all of Metagross' other moves kill Nihilego at least 1.5 times over.

----------------------
EDIT: I LIED! THOSE ARE REGULAR METAGROSS, MEGA METAGROSS IS EVEN STRONGER

252 Atk Tough Claws Metagross-Mega Bullet Punch vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Nihilego: 174-206 (94 - 111.3%) -- 68.8% chance to OHKO

252 SpA Nihilego Hidden Power Fire vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Metagross-Mega: 64-76 (41.2 - 49%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

rip

------------------------

Metagross not only takes negligible damage from Nihilego, but, being an offensive check, it actually switches momentum to your side, regardless of if it is Scarf or Sash Nihilego. Metagross is a pretty well-insured check that goes beyond just stopping Nihilego into actually turning it into a liability.

Aegislash @ Weakness Policy
Ability: Stance Change
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SpA / 4 SpD
Quiet Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- King's Shield
- Shadow Ball
- Flash Cannon / Sacred Sword
- Shadow Sneak

Yeah this beats any variant of Nihilego. Resists/immunities to both STABs plus insane defensive stats while in shield form means that Nihilego is doing 0 to Aegislash. Even rare HP Fire variants do practically nothing, trigger WP, and bring about their own demise swifter. One could also run a more Sp.Def Aegislash with Leftovers and Sub over Shadow Sneak or Shadow Ball to counter Nihilego even harder, but that's not worth it imo.

Offensive Calcs:
252+ SpA Aegislash-Blade Flash Cannon vs. 4 HP / 0 SpD Nihilego: 134-158 (72.4 - 85.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
+2 252+ SpA Aegislash-Blade Flash Cannon vs. 4 HP / 0 SpD Nihilego: 266-314 (143.7 - 169.7%) -- guaranteed OHKO
0 Atk Aegislash-Blade Shadow Sneak vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Nihilego: 58-69 (31.3 - 37.2%) -- 76.7% chance to 3HKO
0 Atk Aegislash-Blade Sacred Sword vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Nihilego: 86-102 (46.4 - 55.1%) -- 64.5% chance to 2HKO

Flash Cannon into Sneak OHKOs standard Nihilego 100% of the time, and even uninvested Sacred Sword has a decent chance to 2HKO.

Defensive Calcs:
252 SpA Nihilego Power Gem vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Aegislash-Shield: 24-28 (14.3 - 16.7%) -- possible 6HKO
252 SpA Nihilego Thunderbolt vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Aegislash-Shield: 36-43 (21.5 - 25.7%) -- 1.1% chance to 4HKO
252 SpA Nihilego Hidden Power Fire vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Aegislash-Shield: 48-58 (28.7 - 34.7%) -- 3.4% chance to 3HKO

Even if you were Taunted into Blade form and couldn't KS, Nihilego still can't OHKO with anything and you get the FC kill after WP activates.
252 SpA Nihilego Hidden Power Fire vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Aegislash-Blade: 114-136 (68.2 - 81.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Well, how about that? Hippo can come in on most variants (Yes, Grass Knot is sometimes a thing on Nihilego) and set up rocks or Yawn something, the usual stuff.

252 SpA Nihilego Power Gem vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Hippowdon: 43-51 (20 - 23.7%) -- possible 6HKO after Sitrus Berry recovery
252 SpA Nihilego Sludge Wave vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Hippowdon: 51-61 (23.7 - 28.3%) -- possible 5HKO after Sitrus Berry recovery

252 SpA Nihilego Grass Knot (120 BP) vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Hippowdon: 174-206 (80.9 - 95.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Sitrus Berry recovery

Excadrill @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Mold Breaker
Level: 50
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Earthquake
- Iron Head
- Rock Slide
- Horn Drill

Scarf Excadrill is a fine threat in its own right in the metagame right now, and it handles Nihilego quite effectively. It 4x resists or is immune to Nihilego's STABs, 4x resists rocks if Nihilego sets them up, and is only beaten by a Scarf/Sash (intact) Nihilego using HP Fire (which just manages to guarantee the 2HKO) on the switch, which is uncommon.

Offensive Calcs:
252 Atk Mold Breaker Excadrill Earthquake vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Nihilego: 628-744 (339.4 - 402.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 Atk Mold Breaker Excadrill Iron Head vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Nihilego: 254-300 (137.2 - 162.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Defensive Calcs:
252 SpA Nihilego Hidden Power Fire vs. 4 HP / 0 SpD Excadrill: 96-114 (51.6 - 61.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252 SpA Nihilego Hidden Power Ice vs. 4 HP / 0 SpD Excadrill: 48-57 (25.8 - 30.6%) -- guaranteed 4HKO
252 SpA Nihilego Power Gem vs. 4 HP / 0 SpD Excadrill: 24-28 (12.9 - 15%) -- possible 7HKO

More generally, Scarf Excadrill is fairly splashable in this meta as it does well against many of the top 15-20.

Garchomp @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Rough Skin
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Earthquake
- Outrage
- Rock Slide / Stone Edge
- Poison Jab / Fire Fang

I submit again ScarfChomp. You submit this f****** Nihilego several times so shut up and take my Chomp to beat Lego. This thing is pretty efficient against a lot of threats and is easily fit in a lot of teams. Let's see versus Nihilego.

Offensive calcs

252 Atk Garchomp Earthquake vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Nihilego: 612-724 (330.8 - 391.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 Atk Garchomp Outrage vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Nihilego: 184-217 (99.4 - 117.2%) -- 93.8% chance to OHKO

Defensive calcs

VS Scarf/Sash Nihilego
Here the 4 EVs moved from HP to SpD are more than useful
252 SpA Nihilego Hidden Power Ice vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Garchomp: 156-184 (85.2 - 100.5%) -- 6.3% chance to OHKO
252 SpA Nihilego Hidden Power Ice vs. 4 HP / 0 SpD Garchomp: 156-188 (84.7 - 102.1%) -- 18.8% chance to OHKO
252 SpA Nihilego Power Gem vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Garchomp: 38-45 (20.7 - 24.5%) -- guaranteed 5HKO
252 SpA Nihilego Sludge Wave vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Garchomp: 45-54 (24.5 - 29.5%) -- 99.8% chance to 4HKO

VS NihiLO
252 SpA Life Orb Nihilego Hidden Power Ice vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Garchomp: 203-239 (110.9 - 130.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 SpA Life Orb Nihilego Power Gem vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Garchomp: 49-58 (26.7 - 31.6%) -- guaranteed 4HKO
252 SpA Life Orb Nihilego Sludge Wave vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Garchomp: 58-70 (31.6 - 38.2%) -- 91.9% chance to 3HKO

ScarfChomp can take a hit from ScarfLego and retaliate with EQ. Without Scarf, Nihilego lost the fact that it outspeeds Garchomp. So NihiLO is easily OHKO, and the Sash Nihilego can hit one time ScarfChomp but has the same power than the Scarf version.

This set is more on the gimmicky side of things but I've had success with it back in season3. Besides winning a direct match-up against Nihilego 100% of the times, this set was specifically designed to also deal with stuff that might counter-lead your Swampert like Serperior ( unboosted ) and Mega-Charizard Y by OHKO'ing them with Mirror Coat (248 SpA Life Orb Serperior Leaf Storm vs. 252 HP / 132+ SpD Rindo Berry Swampert: 174-205 (84 - 99%) -- guaranteed 2HKO,

AV Magenzone can beat Nihilego easily, tanking hits like a champ and getting a clean 2HKO back. The only thing our attractive friend (get it? cause it's a magnet) has to worry about is the rare HP Fire (and HP Ground I guess, but who runs that?)

Are you ready to witness the most frightening matchup in all of the Battle Spot metagame!?! In the 1st corner we have the premier defensive duck, Porygon2! And in the 2nd corner we have the Tapu Killer itself: Nihilego! They will be fighting in a 1v1 cage match up to the death! While our esteemed duck hero may not pack a punch, he can sure take 'em like a champ! While Nihilego desperately attempts to get a critical sludge wave that also poisons Porygon2 twice in a row at +1 special move boost our dynamic duck sets up Hell in a Cell which renders the speedy demon's speed no more than useless. One can always suggest to the duck to bring in some nasty tactics into the fight: Foul Play could be used over thunderbolt if you need a better check to other daunting opponents (physical attackers). In the End Nihilego stands no chance, and Porygon2 gets heavyweight champion!!!

Offensive Calcs:

Hasty Nature

This being a soft counter to Nihilego just hammers in the point that any steel without a 4x weakness will basically eat Nihilego up. Lucario's bulk is awful, so awful that it can't run Naive like it usually does so as to avoid a potential one-shot from life orb hp fire, yet it still manages to counter Nihilego at least once, and even that's assuming the nihilego predicts correctly.

Life Orb is used for most defensive calcs since it's the only relevant power boosting item nihilego uses that luke cares about, really as soon as it attacks or lays rocks it suddenly becomes SUPER telegraphed. If it takes LO recoil or it didn't and it used an ineffective move on you, you can CC, if it doesn't take recoil and it used a good move on you, just BP; it's not worth risking critting. If it lays rocks, you might even want to be cheeky and lay one substitute to see if you can profit off of free turns from ineffective stabs.

Anyway, calcs:

Defensive:252 SpA Life Orb Nihilego Hidden Power Fire vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Lucario-Mega: 117-140 (80.6 - 96.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO252 SpA Nihilego Power Gem vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Lucario-Mega: 22-27 (15.1 - 18.6%) -- possible 6HKO (never pops sub, hp ice has the exact same calc!)
252 SpA Life Orb Nihilego Thunderbolt vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Lucario-Mega: 88-104 (60.6 - 71.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO (both lo and scarf can two-shot, tbolt is a good move for it to get locked into to force you to bp but it will require the nihilego user to counter a lucario that's forced to bp turn 1, then predict right again; a battle you're likely to win)

Offensive:252 Atk Adaptability Lucario-Mega Bullet Punch vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Nihilego: 180-212 (97.8 - 115.2%) -- 87.5% chance to OHKO relatively easy, possible but not likely it lives one

4 HP / 0 Def Nihilego: 174-206 (94 - 111.3%) -- 68.8% chance to OHKO

Swampert @ Rindo Berry
Ability: Torrent
EVs: 252 HP / 124 Def / 132 SpD
Careful ( or Calm if you go with Scald ) Nature
- Earthquake / Scald
- Mirror Coat

- Stealth Rock

This set is more on the gimmicky side of things but I've had success with it back in season3. Besides winning a direct match-up against Nihilego 100% of the times, this set was specifically designed to also deal with stuff that might counter-lead your Swampert like Serperior ( unboosted ) and Mega-Charizard Y by OHKO'ing them with Mirror Coat (248 SpA Life Orb Serperior Leaf Storm vs. 252 HP / 132+ SpD Rindo Berry Swampert: 174-205 (84 - 99%) -- guaranteed 2HKO,
252+ SpA Mega Charizard Y Solar Beam vs. 252 HP / 132+ SpD Rindo Berry Swampert: 152-180 (73.4 - 86.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

4 SpA Porygon2 Ice Beam vs. 4 HP / 0 SpD Nihilego: 29-35 (15.6 - 18.9%) -- possible 6HKO [Thunderbolt does same dmg]

Lucario-Mega @ Lucarionite
Ability: Justified
Level: 50
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpA / 252 Spe
Hasty Nature
- Close Combat
- Bullet Punch
- Flash Cannon
- Substitute

252 Atk Adaptability Lucario-Mega Close Combat vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Nihilego: 266-314 (144.5 - 170.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO even easier
4 SpA Adaptability Lucario-Mega Flash Cannon vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Nihilego: 132-156 (71.7 - 84.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO don't use this against nihilego unless youre predicting lele to come in
Whilst collating all the submissions, I realised that nobody had submitted Nihilego to beat Nihilego yet! Doesn't feel like Victim of the Week without a Nihilego submission somewhere tbh...
