Project Victim of the Week

TBH I'm kinda surprised that Dugtrio wasn't submitted as a check considering that EQ has a chance to OHKO from full (i.e. literally any prior damage ensures the KO), it outpaces it and it traps it. My vote would've gone to that. Anyway...

Check: Scarf Landorus-T (nice for it's ability to outpace on the RK, force it out and grab momentum without said momentum being blocked by Ground-types (which are nice partners for Diancie))
Counters: Jirachi (SpD Rachi is one of the best counters to it and it grabs momentum on it after forcing it out) and Gastrodon (sets up on it without being kinda crap like MSwampert is or losing to specs Mag like Cune does)

Somehow I missed both Metagross sets... sorry guys.

Anyway, you can now vote for AV Metagross as a counter and mega Metagross as a check. Anyone who's already voted, take note and change your vote accordingly if you want.

Week 110 Results:

Checks:
Scarf Landorus-T (Raymond Quaza) | Mega Metagross (Random Passerby) | Mega Scizor (michaeloche)
Counters: Jirachi (Infernal) | Gastrodon (CrystalRam) | Defensive Mega Venusaur (Sobi)

Thanks for all the votes, sorry for my little Metagross mishap, and congrats to Sobi for making it into the Hall of Fame!

Week 111:

Charizard-Mega @ Charizardite Y
Ability: Drought
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid / Modest Nature
- Fire Blast / Flamethrower
- Solar Beam
- Focus Blast
- Roost

Talonflame as a (Soft)Counter
tumblr_ndfl4eyUIQ1u0n985o3_500.gif

Talonflame @ Leftovers
Ability: Gale Wings
EVs: 248 HP / 252 SpD / 8 Spe
Careful Nature
- Brave Bird
- Roost
- Bulk Up
- Will-O-Wisp

To make it short:
Sharing the same typing with Zard Y, Talonflame is one of the most common stops to it. Zards most powerful attack, Fire Blast, isn't even a 2HKO. Even of Stealth Rocks are up, you can come in, take the hit and proceed to recover. Talonflame can even set up on it and heal the damage with Roost. Also with Gale Wings, Talonflame outspeeds it with its Flying type moves, which is pretty key for Talon (Roost). So yeah, Specially Defensive Talonflame is like perfectly desingned for taking on Zard Y.
252+ SpA Mega Charizard Y Fire Blast vs. 248 HP / 252+ SpD Talonflame in Sun: 156-184 (43.4 - 51.2%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery

0 Atk Talonflame Brave Bird vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Mega Charizard Y: 133-157 (44.7 - 52.8%) -- 23.8% chance to 2HKO

Soft Counter
latias_sprite_by_gothica_the_eevee-d6jgqra.png

Latias @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 72 HP / 184 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Draco Meteor
- Psyshock
- Roost / Healing Wish
- Defog / Roost

Latias is a very solid offensive counter to Mega Charizard Y. Thanks to its typing and fantastic bulk, it resists all of Charizard Y's options and isn't 2HKOed by anything if Charizard is Timid. The only reason Latias is a soft counter is because there is a chance of being 2HKOed after Stealth Rock of Life Orb recoil if Charizard is Modest (And if Latias doesn't have Roost it's not nearly as reliable), Psyshock and Draco Meteor solidly 2HKO, and Latias can outspeed and attempt to Roost stall Charizard's Fire Blasts with the chance of missing. (If it's running Flamethrower instead then Latias is just a regular counter)
184 SpA Life Orb Latias Psyshock vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Mega Charizard Y: 175-208 (58.9 - 70%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

MODEST

252+ SpA Mega Charizard Y Fire Blast vs. 72 HP / 0 SpD Latias in Sun: 137-162 (42.9 - 50.7%) -- 2% chance to 2HKO

252+ SpA Mega Charizard Y Solar Beam vs. 72 HP / 0 SpD Latias: 66-78 (20.6 - 24.4%) -- guaranteed 5HKO

TIMID

252 SpA Mega Charizard Y Fire Blast vs. 72 HP / 0 SpD Latias in Sun: 126-148 (39.4 - 46.3%) -- 30.5% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock

Latias-Mega (F) @ Latiasite
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Thunderbolt
- Ice Beam
- Roost
- Calm Mind

Mega Latias can reliably switch into sun boosted Fire Blast without fearing the 2HKO. Everytime it is given a switch-in it can do a number of things. Thunderbolt, Calm Mind, Roost, and Thunder Wave or Reflect Type predicting a switch into a pursuit trapper that is usually paired with Mega Charizard Y (Tyranitar/Weavile). Even though Latias is prone to pursuit trapping it is still able to counter Charizard-Y.

252 SpA Mega Charizard Y Fire Blast vs. 248 HP / 0 SpD Mega Latias in Sun: 110-130 (30.3 - 35.8%) -- 41.3% chance to 3HKO

Counter: Blissey

Blissey @ Leftovers
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Def / 252 SpD
Bold Nature
- Soft-Boiled
- Heal Bell
- Toxic/Thunder Wave
- Seismic Toss

252 SpA Mega Charizard Y Fire Blast vs. 4 HP / 252 SpD Blissey in Sun: 202-238 (30.9 - 36.5%) -- guaranteed 4HKO after Leftovers recovery
252+ SpA Mega Charizard Y Fire Blast vs. 4 HP / 252 SpD Blissey in Sun: 220-261 (33.7 - 40%) -- 32.5% chance to 3HKO after Leftovers recovery (Focus Blast under the Sun does less and is less accurate)

Blissey Seismic Toss vs. 0 HP Mega Charizard Y: 100-100 (33.6 - 33.6%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

Blissey is a counter to Mega Charizard-Y because PP stall Fire Blast very well with Softboiled + Seismic Toss to deal solid damage to the opponent.

Chansey @ Eviolite
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Def / 252 SpD
Bold Nature
- Toxic/Thunder Wave
- Soft-Boiled
- Seismic Toss
- Heal Bell

Chansey is a counter to Mega Charizard Y because she has insane special defense and health, Charizard Y's strong special attacks deal low damage and Chansey can cripple it with Toxic or Thunder Wave, hit it with Seismic Toss and cure the damage she took with Soft-Boiled if needed.

This is the best Charizard Y can do against Chansey:

252 SpA Mega Charizard Y Fire Blast vs. 4 HP / 252 SpD Eviolite Chansey in Sun: 160-190 (24.9 - 29.5%) -- 100% chance to 4HKO

tyranitar.gif

Tyranitar @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Pursuit
- Crunch
- Stone Edge
- Superpower

Role: Check

ScarfTar can switch in on anything except Focus Blast thanks to sand, and Stone Edge is an obvious OHKO. Assuming, of course, it actually hits. Even if Charizard tries to escape, Pursuit does enough so that Charizard will die to rocks if it comes back in. It's also worth noting that you will still die to Solar Beam after rocks if it happens to be sunny, so be careful with that.

252 SpA Mega Charizard Y Fire Blast vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Tyranitar in Sand: 69-82 (20.2 - 24%) -- guaranteed 5HKO
252 SpA Mega Charizard Y Fire Blast vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Tyranitar in Sun: 156-185 (45.7 - 54.2%) -- 53.1% chance to 2HKO (guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock)
252 SpA Mega Charizard Y Solar Beam (60 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Tyranitar in Sand: 102-122 (29.9 - 35.7%) -- 30.2% chance to 3HKO
252 SpA Mega Charizard Y Solar Beam vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Tyranitar: 306-360 (89.7 - 105.5%) -- 37.5% chance to OHKO (guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock)
252 SpA Mega Charizard Y Focus Blast vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Tyranitar in Sand: 408-480 (119.6 - 140.7%) -- guaranteed OHKO

252 Atk Tyranitar Stone Edge vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Mega Charizard Y: 820-972 (276 - 327.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 Atk Tyranitar Crunch vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Mega Charizard Y: 165-195 (55.5 - 65.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after sandstorm damage (this is the same amount that Pursuit does if Charizard tries to switch out)

Not the same set nameless90's submission

Counter
blissey.gif

Blissey @ Leftovers
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 20 HP / 252 Def / 236 SpD
Bold Nature
- Calm Mind
- Thunderbolt
- Ice Beam
- Softboiled

CM+BoltBeam doesn't just wall it, but it sets up on it and threatens it with Thunderbolt, which has a solid chance to 2HKO after just one boost. Not that it'd stay in on you.

The listed EVs hit a leftovers number, maximise defense and dumps the rest in SpD. Max HP/Def is dong use this spread instead.

Dragonite @ Choice Band
Ability: Multiscale
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Fire Punch
- Earthquake
- Outrage
- Extreme Speed

Hard Check

One of the best answers to mega charizard Y that isnt weak to pursuit, that being so prevalent with Mega Charizard Y make some checks shaky on practice so not being weak to that is a blessing. With multiscale intact it can easily take any attack and proceed to smack charizard with a banded outrage or banded extreme speed which easily 2hkos.

Bulky roost sets or bulky ddance sets serve the same purpose but I just went with band cause I really like it, call me nostalgic.

252 SpA Mega Charizard Y Fire Blast vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Multiscale Dragonite in Sun: 78-92 (24.1 - 28.4%) -- 98.4% chance to 4HKO

252 SpA Mega Charizard Y Focus Blast vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Multiscale Dragonite: 38-45 (11.7 - 13.9%) -- possible 8HKO

With Multiscale

252 SpA Mega Charizard Y Fire Blast vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Dragonite in Sun: 156-185 (48.2 - 57.2%) -- 92.6% chance to 2HKO

252 SpA Mega Charizard Y Focus Blast vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Dragonite: 76-90 (23.5 - 27.8%) -- 85.2% chance to 4HKO

Ouch, but doesnt get any better than this.

Goodra as a check.
goodra.gif

Goodra @ Choice Specs
Ability: Sap Sipper
EVs: 160 HP / 252 SpA / 96 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Draco Meteor
- Sludge Wave
- Flamethrower
- Thunderbolt / Muddy Water

Goodra is able to take Zard-Y's moves with relative ease, being resistant to Fire and taking a little from Focus Blast (which has to hit about 4 times to take it down from full, and we all know that's not happening xd), while being immune to Solar Beam, meaning it can find many opportunities to switch in on Zard. In response, Specs-boosted attacks from Goodra do enough to where it can easily take it down, although not getting a guaranteed OHKO with Draco kinda sucks. I prefer Tbolt if I'm running a team very weak to Zard-Y so that I can take it out more easily. Sadly, Goodra is only a check due to lack of reliable recovery, meaning if it gets worn down too much then Zard will still break past it.

252 SpA Mega Charizard Y Fire Blast vs. 160 HP / 0 SpD Goodra in Sun: 110-130 (30.4 - 36%) -- 48% chance to 3HKO

252 SpA Mega Charizard Y Focus Blast vs. 160 HP / 0 SpD Goodra: 107-127 (29.6 - 35.1%) -- 18.6% chance to 3HKO

252+ SpA Choice Specs Goodra Draco Meteor vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Mega Charizard Y: 274-324 (92.2 - 109%) -- 56.3% chance to OHKO

252+ SpA Choice Specs Goodra Thunderbolt vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Mega Charizard Y: 254-300 (85.5 - 101%) -- 6.3% chance to OHKO
