Media Videogame Thread

This post is a post that is going to keep me accountable in actually finishing the games that I buy before I buy new ones because that keeps happening. I love RPGs (and there are so many good ones on Switch/Switch 2!) but often times I have trouble finishing them. So I present to you:

The phoopes RPG backlog

Started but haven’t finished:
NieR Automata
Super Mario RPG
Persona 4 Golden
Persona 5 Royal
Xenoblade Chronicles (Definitive Edition)
Unicorn Overlord
Triangle Strategy
Live-A-Live
Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake
Final Fantasy VI
Bravely Default Flying Fairy
Fire Emblem Three Houses DLC
Fire Emblem Engage DLC

Own but haven’t touched yet:
Dragon Quest I+II HD-2D Remake
Octopath Traveler
Final Fantasy I
Final Fantasy II
Final Fantasy III
Final Fantasy IV
Final Fantasy V
Paper Mario: Thousand Year Door
Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch
Tales of Vesperia
Sea of Stars DLC

Plan on getting for sure:
Dragon Quest VII Reimagined
Persona 3 Reload
Pokémon Legends Z-A
Fire Emblem Path of Radiance (Switch 2 VC)
Fire Emblem Fortune’s Weave
Mario and Luigi: Brothership

Plan on getting assuming I like the other game(s) in the series:
Xenoblade Chronicles X (Definitive Edition)
Xenoblade Chronicles 2
Xenoblade Chronicles 3
Octopath Traveler II
Octopath Traveler 0
SMT V: Vengeance
SMT III: Nocturne HD Remaster
Final Fantasy VII HD Remake whatever it’s called
Maybe others I’m not thinking of

Current “plan” I guess is to start with DQ3 so I can play DQ1+2 before DQ7 comes out in early February. After that idk quite yet because that’s already four games, one of which isn’t even out yet hahaha. But I am absolutely in a Dragon Quest mood and would like to play 7 when it releases so I don’t get spoiled on anything (I know 7 the original has been out for years but I haven’t seen any spoilers really and apparently 7 reimagined is going to be very different anyway).

I should say: all the ones I’ve started but haven’t finished yet I’ve actually really liked or even loved with the exception of NieR (because I tried the prologue many times and I suuuucked and kept dying and there’s no checkpoints in the prologue apparently). What happens is that I go through periods of free time where I play a lot and then periods of very busy IRL so I set the game down and then just don’t pick it back up oops.

So yeah again, the purpose of this post is to keep myself accountable and (mostly) prevent myself from buying new games without playing the ones I already own. Because I know for sure there’ll be stuff like Fortune’s Weave that I buy and play immediately which will just add to the backlog lol. If anyone has any recommendations for what games to prioritize after I play those DQ games let me know!

^those bastards put SMT V: Vengeance Digital Deluxe Edition on sale for $28 from its normal $70 pricetag

I LOVED Persona 3 Portable (and actually finished it!). I played like 2 hours of Persona 4 Golden before putting it down and it was fine but too early to really tell. I put like 30 hours into Persona 5 Royal and LOVED it before putting it down oops. Based off that, do we think I'm going to like SMT V? If so I'll just shell out for it now because this is apparently an all-time low price for it (on Switch anyway).

Anyone else playing Valve's Deadlock? You just need a Steam account and a friend to send you an invite.

I think it's the only good MOBA game now, but it is still very unapologetically a tryhard MOBA. There's a tryhard movement-heavy shooter layered on top of all of that and it's really fun to waste time in.
