Vikavolt is one of RU's two viable Sticky Web setters, distinguishing itself from Ribombee through its slow Volt Switch, hard-to-wall STAB combination, and defensive presence against Fighting-types and balance teams. Its main flaw is its matchup against offensive teams, where its low Speed and few resistances leave it with little breathing room. Volt Switch grants free switches to Vikavolt's offensive teammates and forces out Mantine, the top Defogger. Roost lets Vikavolt leverage its passable bulk and useful resistances to Fighting and Ground, especially against balanced and defensive teams. Bug Buzz has good coverage alongside Volt Switch and pressures most Ground-types. Energy Ball is an alternative that does more damage to said Ground-types, particularly Golurk, Rhydon, and Steelix, but such Pokemon don't get in the way of Vikavolt's main job, setting Sticky Web. Heavy-Duty Boots is practically mandatory thanks to Vikavolt's Stealth Rock weakness, and the given EVs let Vikavolt 2HKO Vileplume with Bug Buzz and outspeed offensive Adamant Rhydon while leaving it with a bit of extra bulk.

Though the most popular teammates for a Sticky Web setter are slow-to-middling wallbreakers like Exploud, Bewear, and Goodra, fast sweepers also benefit from Speed reduction. The likes of Focus Energy Inteleon, Nasty Plot Salazzle, and Swords Dance Sneasel have a much easier time winning the game if the opponent's Choice Scarf user or other fast Pokemon is made slower. Vikavolt can't reliably check many faster attackers, so its team should have a plan against most kinds of offense, especially if Vikavolt can't set Sticky Web early in a match. Choice Scarf users, such as Passimian and Gardevoir, and the aforementioned fast Pokemon go a long way in ensuring one's Sticky Web team doesn't crumble to pressure.

Vikavolt is one of RU's two viable Sticky Web setters, distinguishing itself from Ribombee through its slow Volt Switch, hard-to-wall STAB combination, and defensive slant [be more specific about this 'slant'; it's primarily good as a fighting-type check]. Energy Ball is an alternative that does more damage to said Ground-types, particularly Golurk, Rhyperior, and Steelix, but such Pokemon don't get in the way of Vikavolt's main job, setting Sticky Web. Heavy-Duty Boots is practically mandatory thanks to Vikavolt's Stealth Rock weakness, and the given EVs let Vikavolt 2HKO Vileplume with Bug Buzz and outspeed offensive Adamant Rhyperior while leaving it with a bit of extra bulk.

The likes of Focus Energy Inteleon, Nasty Plot Salazzle, and Swords Dance Sneasel have a much easier time winning the game if the opponent's Choice Scarf user or other fast Pokemon is made slower. Vikavolt is weak to Fire and Rock and can't reliably check many faster attackers, so its team should have a plan against most kinds of offense, especially if Vikavolt can't set Sticky Web early in a match. [what helps with the Fire+Rock weaknesses? One thing coming to mind is offensive Water-types, Intel and Barraskewda. If you could think of 1 other category for this that would be great.] Choice Scarf users, such as Passimian and Gardevoir, and the aforementioned fast Pokemon go a long way in insuring one's Sticky Web team doesn't crumble to pressure.

2/2

i've forgotten why i bothered to point out the weaknesses in the first place, so i just removed that and made it about anti-offense. a few of the mons i mention in the paragraph are already incidentally good against fire/rock, it's something pretty inherent to building
