Visitor message improvements

VKCA

(Virtual Circus Kareoky Act)
Would it be possible to make it so that you can edit visitor messages? Or would this require vbulletin to do an update?

Actually, I intentionally disabled editing visitor messages because it doesn't leave any evidence that the message was edited, so you could post something and then edit it months later and it would be confusing and unaccountable. It's a limitation of vbulletin that it doesn't leave an "edited by" line for visitor messages, but unless we address that I don't want to allow editing.

On the subject of visitor messages, would it be possible to get a message box pop-up when we have one, like when we get pms? Or have the option to enable the pop-up if we want it?

I know several times it has been some time before I noticed the message, or in some cases I did not see it at all.

In my experience, I've been alerted that I have a visitor message the same way I would get notified as though I had a PM, if I refresh the page/change pages a message will pop up. Maybe I have something turned on that you don't though.

I think it depends on the browser settings. Certain settings on FireFox, for example, will completely disable pop-ups. However, that wouldn't explain why he gets a pop-up when he receives a PM.

How about allowing quotes? Not quoting other vm's, quotes from posts in random threads. Just allowing the "quote" tags in visitor messages's.

Why would you need to quote in a VM? You can already view the conversation you've had with each user who's posted on your profile. I think you're just trying to find "make-work" for the Admins to do. They have enough to do, don't ya think?

I think this is pretty well wrapped up now. (smirk)

Thats really not what I was trying to do at all. But if thats the way any of the admins feel about this suggestion, delete my post. My main thinking for it was if you wanted to talk to someone about something they posted, but did not really think it was "on topic" with the thread, you could quote them in a vm and ask about it. Or if you wanted to talk to someone about something in a forum that you don't have posting rights in (such as policy review) you could quote part of their post and discuss it via vm. I hope I don't come off as "just trying to find make-work" for the admins.

No one thinks you were trying to make "busy work" for anyone, and your suggestion has been noted.

Thank You.
