[SET COMMENTS]

When your opponent sees Walrein on a hail team in Team Preview, there is no doubt that they will assume it is the Stallrein set. This is what makes a simple Choice Scarf set so effective for Walrein. A good deal of teams deal with Walrein by wearing it down and trying to prevent it from getting a Substitute up with pressure from offensive Rock-, Grass-, and Fighting-type Pokemon. The Choice Scarf set is able to outspeed every non-Choice Scarf Pokemon in the tier outside of Ninjask, Accelgor, Aerodactyl, and Swellow. A powerful STAB Blizzard allows Walrein to do hefty amounts of damage to most offensive Pokemon that stay in, not expecting to be hit first. While it can be argued that Glaceon is a better Choice Scarf user on hail teams thanks to higher Special Attack, Walrein has several advantages that can make it a better choice. Walrein's Water typing means that it does not have to sacrifice a Hidden Power slot in order to get a super effective hit against Pokemon such as Moltres or Entei. Walrein also has considerably more bulk than Glaceon does, being about as bulky as 252/0 Druddigon even without any HP investment. Hidden Power Fire allows Walrein to hit Escavalier switch-ins that think they are able to tank a Blizzard as well as unexpectedly revenge kill any Durant variant outside of a Choice Scarf set. The last slot depends on your team. Brine allows Walrein to clean up the opposing team late-game after everything has been weakened while Toxic can be used to handle Slowking and Cryogonal if your team has trouble with them, as they will wall Walrein otherwise.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

With a Timid nature and 252 Speed EVs, Walrein is just able to outpace positive natured base 120s such as Sceptile. Maximum Special Attack investment enables Walrein to hit as hard as possible when revenge killing. Hidden Power Grass can be used over Hidden Power Fire to allow Walrein to do more damage to common switch-ins such as Lanturn while being able to get an OHKO on Omastar and Kabutops without any prior damage. Ice Beam can be used as well if there are concerns regarding Blizzard's PP. However, Ice Beam is considerably weaker and 8 PP for Blizzard is often enough for Walrein to effectively revenge kill threats. In a similar vein, Walrein can run Frost Breath in order to beat setup Pokemon such as Cosmic Power or Calm Mind variants of Sigilyph and Calm Mind Spiritomb. Frost Breath is situational though, and stopping setup sweepers is often left to another member of the team. Super Fang allows Walrein to potentially hit switch-ins for up to 50% if they are at full health. Most of the Pokemon that easily switch into Choice Scarf Walrein, such as Slowking and Cryogonal, can easily recover off damage done by Super Fang and don't find it to be much of an annoyance. In general, Toxic does a better job deterring defensive switch-ins than the inconsistent Super Fang.

In order for Walrein to act as an effective revenge killer, it must be used on a hail team. Choice Scarf Walrein is most effective on offensive or balanced hail teams, as most defensive hail teams prefer Stallrein. This requires Snover as a teammate, which summons hail and allows Walrein to fire off 100% accurate Blizzards while also recovering HP every turn thanks to Ice Body. Although it is not always necessary, Walrein does appreciate Rapid Spin support. The Stealth Rock weakness prevents Walrein from coming in frequently to revenge kill threats, although it is somewhat mitigated by Ice Body's HP recovery every turn. Kabutops and Cryogonal are both excellent Rapid Spin users that fit well on hail teams and support Walrein. Cryogonal's large Special Defense stat allows it to switch into Grass- and Electric-type attacks aimed at Walrein and remove Stealth Rock from the field. It is also worth mentioning that because it is being used in hail, Cryogonal can effectively run Blizzard, a move that allows it to wear down spinblockers easily; however, using Cryogonal alongside Walrein and Snover compounds weaknesses to Fighting-, Rock-, and Fire-type attacks. Kabutops can come into Choice-locked Fire-type attacks and easily Rapid Spin while not having a weakness to Stealth Rock. As Choice Scarf Walrein can do very little to Cryogonal and Slowking, it is recommended that a team uses a Pokemon that can easily switch into both. Occa Berry Escavalier can switch into both Pokemon with impunity and threaten them with Pursuit should they choose to switch out or simply OHKO them should they choose to stay in.

[SET COMMENTS]
 • An excellent revenge killer on hail teams due to sheer surprise factor. Most opponents will expect Stallrein and will leave in their Grass-type pokemon in order to deal big damage and get surprise OHKO'd.
 • Blizzard is the primary move of choice due to STAB + high base power
 • What sets this set apart from Glaceon is the bulk and added Water typing. Bulk allows Walrein to get in safer to revenge kill dangerous threats. Water-type STAB allows Walrein to hit Entei and Moltres
 • Hidden Power [Fire] hits Escavalier switch ins and allows Walrein to revenge kill Durant that may have grabbed a boost.
 • Toxic hits switch ins that Walrein cannot do much damage to like Slowking and Cryogonal.
 • On the other hand, Brine is Water-type STAB that has 130 base power as long as the opponent is below 50%, making it ideal for late game clean ups alongside Blizzard.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]
 • Super Fang can be used to take off 50% of an opponents health on the switch in. However, most pokemon that this would be good for (Cryogonal, Slowking) can just Recover it off and will be more annoyed with Toxic.
 • Hidden Power [Grass] can be used to hit Kabutops, Omastar, and Lanturn switch ins.
 • Obviously needs Snover to work
 • Rapid Spinner is nice to spin away Stealth Rocks, since this Walrein set will be switching much more. Cryogonal fits well on Hail but also shares a lot of mutual weaknesses with Snover and Walrein. Kabutops is a rather sturdy Fire-type resist with the ability to revenge faster fires with Aqua Jet and spin much more consistently than Cryo overall
 • Requires a switch into Slowking and Cryo who can often come in for free if they predict right. Occa Berry Escavalier OHKOs both and can also get damage on them with Pursuit should they choose to flee

Why does this deserve to be on site? Most every user here who has tried Scarf Walrein will agree with me that it is an excellent bulky revenge killer who also has surprise factor

Good job august. There were, however, a few mistakes that were consistently appearing throughout the analysis. Hyphens were a big problem, you hyphenated terms such as "super effective", when they shouldn't be, and you missed out on hyphenating terms such as "switch-ins". Speaking of "such as", that should always replace the word "like" in an analysis as "like" is informal and somewhat immature. Likewise (btw, its okay to use that word :P), "since" should be replaced by "as" or "because", you should be able to tell which one to use. I don't think that team styles (offensive, hail, stall, etc.) are capitalized, correct me if I'm wrong though. Also, when mentioning a Hidden Power anywhere in an analysis, its type is never closed by the use of "[ ]", I only saw this mistake in the "[SET]". Aside from that, I really didn't think Scarfrein was possible, great job ^_^

EDIT: Governess is right, implemented those suggestions into my check. Thanks :)

-Just from a quick glance, Team Preview should be capitalized, and from this sentence:
"However, Ice Beam is considerably weaker and 8 PP for Blizzard is often enough for Walrein to effectively revenge kill threats."
Shouldn't there be a comma after weaker? Or is that just me being overly-protective on commas again? xD

EDIT: Finding things as I go, "Kabutops and Cryogonal are both excellent Rapid Spinners that fit well on hail teams and support Walrein."
Rapid Spinners: not a word. Either spinner, or Rapid Spin user.

It's not necessary. I like how it flows without it.
