Warstory: Uber Battle

After reading some quality battles that differed from the formulaic "Log + Comments", I found that the narrative and fluidity that these Warstories gave was a refreshing change of pace. So searching through some of my own old battle logs and modelling the following story after recent OU and UU Battles, I decided that an Uber Battle would be most fitting.

Many months ago whilst playing on Shoddy, I ran into Sandman, a Smogonite whom I knew had an interest in Uber Battles. I had even procured a kick-ass Adamant Ho-oh (and battled with it, against him, over WiFi) from him. I also knew him to be quite an experienced Battler making it to the Top 4 in the Nightmare before Christmas Holidays (A quick shout-out to both Seph and Maniaclyrasist, best of luck to you both). So, I challenged him to a series of Uber Battles, where he'd alternate between his 3 Teams whilst I used by only one that had served me well in previous battles (and Warstories). This was the second we had, after sussing out each other's skill levels and I believe this to be one of the best.

With only a little slightly more delay (optional), Please read on for the Warstory.

Reading this Warstory (For Dummies):
Just some quick things before it begins.

My pokemon will be referenced in RED.
Sandman's pokemon will be referenced in BLUE.
Attacks and anything else of Interest will be GREEN.
The percentage listed in Brackets (%) represents the Pokemon's current Health.

Thanks for reading, enjoy the Battle.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Train Man and Sandman looked at each other, on the plains of Shoddy. Both, battle-ready and with a new-found sense of experience and understanding from their prior battle. Train flung his pokeball forth, unleashing the rock titan, Groudon (100%) from his ball. As he let his menacing growl, the weather changed, clouds seemingly dissappeared and the sun began to shine brightly. Sandman followed suit, releasing a Twin Beast, his exact duplicate down to the bone-chilling cry. Sand's Groudon (100%), a venerable Beast sized up it's opponent. Train's Groudon (100%), like a carbon-copy followed suit.

Though whilst they were similiar in appearance, Train's was obviously the more confident, striking first and striking fast, breaking apart the very Ground they stood, unleashing a might Earthquake! Sand, seemingly anticipating this switched out Groudon for a new Beast that could stand on the now Bleak ground, dried and cracked from both the Sun and Groudon's (90%) might assault. Giratina (69%) still absorbing the shock from Groudon's, poised to fight back. Groudon, whilst holding onto a dangerous Item known as the Life Orb, was injured from his own harrowing efforts.

The ball was now in Sand's court, and both players knew it. Giratina (69%) was surely looking to burn it's enemy for the damage it had done, crippling it's power and draining it's health even moreso. Train was no fool and that feeling that Groudon's (90%) could still be of use, he returned it to his pokeball, letting the cold and calculating Registeel (87% Burnt), take his place and the impending Will-o-Wisp.

As Ghost and Robot collided, they both knew they could do very little each other. While Registeel (87% Burnt) was plantingStealth Rocks upon the field, Sand removed his Giratina and returned to the field his Groudon, eager to discombobulate Registeel (81% Burnt).

Once again, the match called for a moment of recollection. Train withdrew his Registeel for his own Giratina, knowing that it could take any feeble attack thrown at it. Groudon (100%) returned with a barrage of rocks, the Stone's Edge creating a great gashes and wonds in Giratina (78%).

Giratina (84%), unaware what was around the corner bellowed a fine Wisp of Fire at the Groudon, though Sand obviously had other plans. Predicting this dangerous burn, he proceeded to unleash his Heatran (100%) onto the field, not only absorbing the Burn, but fueling the mechanical beasts appetite for destruction, sparking it's Flash Fire ability.

Sandman, looked on admiring his handiwork. A Heatran with the capacity to burn down the toughest Blisseys, it's already magnificent Fire Attacks, boosted by the sweltering sun, his Choice Specs and the burn, that intended to cripple, now helped fuel further fire. Train Man and Giratina, alike, could barely cope with the situation at hand. Choosing a rash coarse of action, Train ordered Giratina to rest, hoping to find out what that Heatran had in mind. Though, a sluggish beast it took the brunt of Heatran's Flamethrower, before Giratina's (100% Sleeping) slumber.

Deciding to retreat once more, Train made another desperate move, a switch to the Legendary Bird, a Great Phoenix, Ho-oh. Heatran smiled smugly, unleashing another Flamethrower hurting the bird gravely, despite its resistance to fire. Ho-oh (35%), though, managed to survive with under half it's health.

The mechanical beast was grounded and Ho-oh, attempting to take advantage of the fact, unleashed another Earthquake on the already damaged land. Though, like once before, Giratina came in, sparing Heatran to absorb the attack, this time shrugging it off as nothing. Though, not before it the rocks that Registeel had previously planted fell upon him, adding insult to Giratina's (48%) injuries.

Ever-menacing, Giratina (54%) was upto it's old tricks, once again attempting to burn something knowing that Ho-oh (35%) couldn't harm him all. Dialga (87% Burnt), found itself in the fray, taking the burn, expecting to enter upon a pleasant sleep.

Sandman, confident that Dialga (75%) would unleash a Draconic Meteor Storm, upon Giratina, switched in a Blissey to absorb the brunt of the attack, knowing that once burnt, he didn't pose a physical threat in the slightest. Train knew Blissey would come in, to absorb the attack, similiar to Sandman's previous gesture with Heatran and proceeded to follow suit and release his Groudon (90%) on an unsuspecting Blissey.

Blissey, surprised at it's meeting with Groudon, shrouded itself in a bubble, Protecting itself from any harm what so ever. Both Train and Groudon anticipated this, seeing in done previously and Polished some Rocks, effectively doubling the speed of Groudon (90% +2 Speed).

The fear had started to show, the chinks in Sandman's armour revealing themselves as well. It was Sandman, now on the defensive as he flung his Giratina wildly taking large amounts of damage from Groudon's (80%)impressive Earthquake as well as the Stealth Rocks. Left crippled, a former cocoon of itself, clinging to life, Giratina (13%) knew the end was near. It came swiftly, another Earthquake finishing Giratina (0% Fainted) , simultaneously eating away at Groudon's (70%) health.

Train Man : Sandman
6-5

Reeling from his loss, Sandman countered back, returning his Groudon to the field, it was a similiar situation that started it all. A Sunny day, two Rock Titans, staring each other down, eager to knock the other out. Once again, Train's Groudon let out another powerful and punishing Earthquake, though it was not enough to defeat the sturdy Beast. Matching his power Groudon (47%) fought back, an Earthquake unleashed heading towards Groudon and from the residual damage from his Life Orb, gutting Groudon (0% Fainted) clean.

Train Man : Sandman
5-5

Arising from the ashes of his fallen Team-mate,Ho-oh (35%) took to the skies, noticing at last a Choice Band equipped to his comrade's killer. Know, full-well that the enemy was forced to switch out, and having a good idea, to whom it'd be he got ready to unleash an Earthquake... Devastating the incoming Heatran (0% Fainted)!!

Sandman, predicting the infamous and potentially fatal Sacred Fire that crippled so many Fighters and Brawlers with it's power in the sun and it's debilitating and lasting burns, chose to try and absorb the blast, again with Heatran.

Train Man : Sandman
5-4

The defeat of two very dangerous pokemon eased the mind of the anxious Train Man. His worries, slightly appeased that a Beast seemingly capable of OHKO'ing his entire team had fallen. Perhaps it was this light-headedness or maybe just a sacrifice with a not-so-friendly departing gift that prompted further death.

Unleashing what looked like a Dragon fused with Steel, upon the stadium Train wanted to see what that thing was capable of. Ho-oh, wearing a scarf which granted such speed, unleashed another Earthquake, hoping to at least wear down this Bulky Beast. Dialga (27%), with it's fantastic defences managed to survive the Earthquake though the Draco Meteor that ensued, was something that Ho-oh (0% Fainted) could not handle.

Train Man : Sandman
4-4

The game had really started to heat up and both knew this to be the beginning of the end. 4 Pokemon being knocked out in 4 consecutive turns certainly changed this Battle into a late-game scenario. Both eager to unleash their late-game Beasties knew that every move counted, play and mispredict would cost them.

Train's Mewtwo (100%) had stepped onto the scene, the original, Ultimate Pokemon. It's power was unmatched and knowing especially the fear it struck into Dialga (27%) whom had , proceed to Calm Mind as Sandman switched into an unlikely combatant, a physical Wall, by the name of Forretress (100%).

Knowing the only offensive thing, that the mechanic Bug-Beast could do was Explode or Rapid Spin, Train being a more conservate Pokemon Trainer switched out his Mewtwo to absorb any form of aggression from the Foretress (0% Fainted), with his Dialga. It seemed that upon exploding, Forretress managed to reach Hit Critical levels and surprisingly KO'd Dialga (0% Fainted), despite his resistance and strong defences.

Train Man : Sandman
3-3

Both Trainers struggled to gain the upper hand. With 3 Pokemon aside, most of them unscathced and unseen, it looked as if the match had started anew. Train Man's army consisted of a genetic experiment, Mewtwo (100%), an emotionless Automaton, Registeel (81% Burnt) and an Undead and Unholy Caterpillar, Giratina (100% Sleeping). Sandman, had by his side, the Dragonic/Metallo Beast, Dialga (27%), a Rock Titan, Groudon (47%) and the nursing wall that was Blissey (100%).

Now, on the defensive, both Trainers decided to use their free switch and get in there Walls. Registeel and Blissey stared coldly at each other, unaware, not knowing what was going on. Blissey, chose to once again scout and Protect itself, whilst Registeel (75% Burnt), worn down from prior burns, feebly attempted to poison Blissey (87%) with a deadly Toxin.

Seeing an oppurtunity to strike, Registeel went underwent it's self-destruct sequence, though weakened by his Burn, his Boom wasn't quite worth the buck. Blissey (56%), wanting to heal itself and team-mates made a Wish and survived the brutal explosion with Health to spare. Registeel (0%) did not give it's life in vain.

Train Man : Sandman
2-3

Mewtwo, returned with a vengeance. The only offensive Threat left, it had alot to overcome. The epitome of Special Walls, a Mighty Rock Titan
and a God of Time stood in his way. Focusing it's powers and Calm Minding, it's SpAtk and SpDef rose as Blissey's wish healed Groudon, bringing it back to (near) Perfect Health.

It was now a critical moment in the match, whichever sweeper emerged from here this conflict was most likely going to dominate the rest of the match. Mewtwo unleashed an Aura Sphere, doing a respectable amount of damage, though failing to knock out the Tough Beast. Groudon (47%), returned in full fury with a very powerful Earthquake, boosted by Choice Band... Though by sheer luck, failed to KO Mewtwo (14%). After another Aura Sphere, Groudon (0% Fainted) was downed and upon munching on Mewtwo's (20%) leftovers emerged with a health enough to finish Sand's Team.

Train Man : Sandman
2-2

Though, there were only two pokemon left on Sandman's Team, Dialga (27%) was slow and damaged enough to be KO'd. Blissey and Mewtwo danced around each other, but we both knew what the end result would be. Blissey (56%), happened to lack Seismic Toss, a game-breaking decision, as Blissey's Flamethrower though boosted by the Sun couldn't break past Mewtwo's (2%) boosted SpDef and hit with a boosted Aura Sphere Blissey (26%) for a strong, clean hit. Another one finished it off with ease, Blissey (0% Fainted) fell, like so many others, under Mewtwo's (20% Health) boot.

Train Man : Sandman
2-1

Dialga (27%), the lone warrior was finished immediately after, with the same Aura Sphere that broke Blissey. Mewtwo surveyed the field, the fallen Dialga (0% Fainted), the Skies still filled with that Blazing sunlight, both Trainers said their congratulations walked away.

Train Man : Sandman
2-0

Good Game, Sandman!!

Thanks for reading all the way through, it took a long time to write, please post comments, suggestions for the future, etc. Don't expect many more warstories, as i'm both burnt out and out of material.

Fin.

wha? no way m2 could survive a groudon's CB'd quake, no wayyyy :[ ... unless you specced him with hp/defense evs? :P good battle.

edit: metalkid says an adamant 252 atk groudon with choice band EQ deals to a neutral natured 4hp/0def Mewtwo Damage: 92.92% - 109.35%
i guess there was a chance after all :P

Wrong, that Mewtwo had something then since before Leftovers it should have had been 14%. Either that or that was a Jolly Groudon. Think a bit harder Syne!

yeah, i was a bit lazy, and noticed that 92% wasn't low enough to leave M2 with 14% HP, but i didn't bother correcting myself c_c sorry.

it's odd how 3/6 pokemon are mirror matched here :o is that saying something about the state of ubers? i wanna see some arceus action! :]

Nice match and still liking that warstory format. It's been a while since a nice warstory popped up. Great job and congrats on the win.

Great job on the warstory, great format and very interesting to read, also thanks for the shout out, and I still think its time you changed your team :P

Good story train man!

I'm suprised that the heatran didn't unleash a critical hit, Flash fire, Sunny day, choice specs over heat though :naughty:

6 pokemon died in 6 turns O.o

gg, though. Very nicely played on both sides. Though that Heatran prediction cost him the game, imo.

If you ever see me on shoddy, uber battle please. There's no one doing it whenever I'm on

Nice Story!!!
I just to hate this format, but now I like it even more than the standard log style warstory. Those usually end up as noobish slaughter-stories anyway...
Good On You!!!

Nice job on the warstory, i liked the format and out of the battles we had this was defiantly one of my favorites. Your team, the combination of ho-oh and dialga is so good, ho-oh lures out giratina or kygore and then dialga can come in resisting water and giratina, instead of using WoW on ho-oh, will probably attack it which dialga can easily shrug off and scare it off with a draco meteor. Also despite what i just said, you need a new team lol.

Excellent warstory, a nice change from the low quality battles that have been popping up recently. As a bonus, Uber's are so much fun to play and read about, it just made this even better.

Thanks for all the nice comments guys. The game did go a little quickly, though I felt that in this format it made it look even faster. I'm glad you liked the new format, but odds are in future, i'll stick with the "log + comments" if only for the ease and time.

Yeah, I am not too sure about the way this is written, maybe logs are still better? Though adding alot of story underneath each turn to express the situation. I still liked the expressive words to the Pokemon, and the way you talk about the atmosphere, it's enjoyable to read!

None the less, I still enjoy reading Uber Warstories. The presentation was brilliant, the story itself was fluent, too.

Well done!

Awesome! You beat sandman? I found him pretty difficult to beat as I have only beat him once but good job! Train man you and me should play ubers sometime.

a bit more story than it needs to be a good example to follow would be sonuis recent warstory otherwise a decent read a lot better than those boring log + comment mainly because it usually involves some eh...bad battlers

Well written and well played, but I had a question:

I always thought that Will o wisp didn't work on fire types? Am I very very wrong in that? Mayeb I have only seen it absorbed by Arcanine/Tran/Ninetales/houndoom, but I thought it didn't work on all Fire types...

Will-o-Wisp doesn't work on Fire Types.

If you're inferring to the point, where Sandman used Will-o-Wisp on Ho-oh, it was because he knew a switch was coming. We both knew that Ho-oh could do nothing against a Giratina besides lose PP.

Ok, so I am not a moron...And I was referrign to the post where Sandman said

I just figured that as an accomplished battler, he might be right in saying that he would burn Ho-oh with WoW. Thus I thought I was wrong and asked for confirmation :)
