[Overview]

Just like many of the Poison-types residing in the NU tier, Weezing has a relatively wide array of offensive and supportive moves. However, its movepool is not Weezing's only asset, as it also has a remarkable Defense stat, a great defensive typing, and an immunity to Spikes thanks to its ability in Levitate. With these factors considered, Weezing can counter the likes of Golurk, Primeape, Sawsbuck, and Scolipede all at once—something not many Pokemon can boast about. While its Special Attack might not be stellar, it is enough to hit many Pokemon in the tier for some solid damage. Unfortunately, Weezing faces stiff competition from Misdreavus, which practically runs the same support moves Weezing uses but has an added bonus of immunities to Normal- and Fighting-type attacks. Its HP is not as large as Alomomola and Lickilicky, and it also has a mediocre Special Defense stat that can be preyed upon. Its Speed, while decent for a wall, falls just short of outspeeding key threats such as Roselia and Alomomola. Other physical walls like Alomomola and Tangela can either pass a Wish or put something to sleep, respectively, making it harder for Weezing to stand out from its competition.

[SET]
name: Physically Defensive
move 1: Will-O-Wisp
name 2: Sludge Bomb
name 3: Flamethrower / Pain Split
name 4: Haze / Taunt
item: Black Sludge
ability: Levitate
nature: Bold
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD

[SET COMMENTS]

This is Weezing's trademark set; it prevents physical attackers such as Golurk and Scolipede from steamrolling through your team easily. Will-O-Wisp is a necessity for Weezing to incapacitate physical attackers from harming it and its fellow teammates. Sludge Bomb is a moderately strong STAB attack that hits many relevant Pokemon such as Swellow and Kangaskhan hard. Flamethrower roasts the Bug- and Steel-types that Weezing wouldn't normally be able to touch, hitting Pokemon like Scolipede for solid damage. Pain Split is also a possible choice for the third slot, increasing the survivability of Weezing as well as dwindling the opposing Pokemon's health if the circumstances are right. Haze sets the opponent's boosted stats back to 0, which is useful against Substitute + Bulk Up Braviary and Nasty Plot Misdreavus. Taunt can also prevent slower setup sweepers from setting up at all, but it is less reliable, as Weezing is outsped by numerous Pokemon; however, it can stop Pokemon such as Piloswine and Regirock from setting up Stealth Rock as well as prevent Wishes from Lickilicky and Audino, so it is still a solid option for the last slot.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

Black Sludge is used over Leftovers to punish Trick users and make them want to Trick their Black Sludge away, wasting valuable turns and giving Weezing time to either cripple or hurt them. Fire Blast guarantees an OHKO on Scolipede after Stealth Rock as well as a 3HKO on Metang, but those KOs don't matter too much since burning them is already crippling them enough. Toxic is usually not recommended, as Weezing's main job is burning opponents, and there are much better candidates to do that job. Clear Smog may also be used in the last slot, but it is generally inferior to Haze, which can pass through Substitute. For teammates, Lickilicky and Audino can sponge most special hits and can pass big Wishes to Weezing. Metang and Skuntank can come in on any Psychic-type Pokemon including Jynx (when something is already put to sleep) and Musharna, walling or Pursuit trapping them, respectively. Weezing can support Ludicolo and Tauros by beating Scolipede and Golurk for them. Musharna can handle Mold Breaker Sawk, making it a good partner on stall and balanced teams.

[Other Options]

Weezing is versatile, but that does not mean it can run a set as effective as the one listed above. An offensive set consisting of Sludge Bomb, Fire Blast, Thunderbolt, and a filler move is usable, but it doesn't focus on Weezing's main stat: Defense. Weezing has literally no viable moves on the physical side, making its base 95 Attack stat just for show. Memento is possible to aid Belly Drum Linoone and Shell Smash Carracosta, but there are other Pokemon in the tier who utilize that role more effectively. Weezing can summon both Rain Dance and Sunny Day, but it doesn't benefit from those moves, and is generally outclassed by other weather setters such as Volbeat and Gardevoir. A set with Destiny Bond, Endure or Fire Blast, Will-O-Wisp, and Sludge Bomb holding a Custap Berry is a fun, gimmicky concept, and could be useful in some occasions. Rocky Helmet is a useful item that Weezing can use, which allows it to cut down HP of an opponent using a contact move, but the loss of the passive recovery can degrade its lifespan. Sludge Wave is slightly stronger than Sludge Bomb, but Weezing enjoys the higher poison chance than the power most of the time.

[Checks and Counters]

Bulky Psychic-types, such as Musharna, Duosion, and Gardevoir, take little damage from Weezing's attacks, don't mind Taunt too much, and can use Psychic for the kill. Jynx can OHKO with Psychic, but it shouldn't switch in to Weezing because it is hit hard by Flamethrower. Fire-types, such as Charizard, Simisear, and Camerupt, can proceed to come in on a Fire-type move and roast Weezing with their STAB attacks; however, the first two get hit hard with Sludge Bomb, so you should be cautious. Generally, strong special attackers, such as Life Orb Haunter and Eelektross, can dispatch of Weezing in two hits with their STAB moves. A fast Taunt from Misdreavus or Samurott can also prevent Weezing from doing much. Regice can take even a Flamethrower and retaliate back with Ice Beam.

[Overview]
 • Walls many of the prominent physical attackers in the tier thanks to its great defensive typing and ability. (Kangaskhan, Primeape, Skuntank, Scolipede, Golem).
 • Its Special Attack is good.
 • Immunity to Toxic is p good too.
 • Misdreavus gives Weezing the most competition due to immunities to Normal- and Fighting-type attacks, but Weezing has more bulk as well as the ability to use Black Sludge effectively.
 • Special Defense is not great, but can allow it to handle attacks from special attacking Grass-types like Serperior and Roselia.
 • Pretty good at what it does, but has a lot of competition as a physical wall.

name 4: Haze / Taunt

[SET COMMENTS]
 • This is Weezing's trademark set; it disallows physical attackers like Golurk and Primeape from steamrolling through your team with ease.
 • Will-O-Wisp is a crucial move to have on Weezing as it incapacitates physical attackers from doing much harm to it.
 • Sludge Bomb is a handy STAB that hits most of the relevant Pokemon in the tier for neutral damage.
 • Flamethrower roasts Scolipede. It also deals good damage to Steel-types like Metang.
 • But Pain Split gives Weezing some sort of recovery, which lengthens its survivability.
 • Haze prevents dangerous setup sweepers such as SubBU Braviary and SubNP Misdreavus from using Weezing as setup fodder.
 • Taunt also does that, but since Weezing is quite slow, it is less reliable. It prevents Pokemon like Piloswine and Regirock on setting up Stealth Rock however.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]
 • Black Sludge punishes Trick users, but since they might want to Trick it back to one of your non-Poison type Pokemon later on the match, Leftovers is a viable option.
 • Fire Blast is more powerful than Flamethrower, but Weezing isn't meant to dish off a lot of damage and the loss off accuracy might be proven fatal.
 • Toxic can be used, but the utility of burning opponents and decreasing their Attack stat is just too hard to pass off.
 • Lickilicky takes Special hits decently and can pass of Wishes to heal Weezing.
 • Something that can beat Psychic-types are good teammates as well, making Metang and Skuntank good teammates.
 • Pokemon that dislike Primeape and Scolipede benefit from Weezing's presence, Tauros and Ludicolo make good partners as well.
 • Musharna full on counters Mold Breaker Sawk, which Weezing might find troublesome due to its ability to hit it with Earthquake, making it a good teammate on stall teams.

[Other Options]

 • Offensive
 • Sludge Wave
 • D. Bond
 • Rocky Helmet
 • Weather
 • Explosion
 • Memento

[Checks and Counters]
 • Musharna and fast Psychic-types like Gardevoir and Jynx.
 • Fire-types like Camerupt and Charizard that can come in WoW
 • Strong Special Attacks from the likes of Samurott and Eelektross can do decent damage.
 • Swellow and Ursaring can come in on WoW, but Sludge Bomb hurts the former a lot.
 • Taunt shuts it down almost completely.
 • Special walls like Regice and Lickilicky can come in on non-Taunt variants and wall it.
 • Misdreavus can take any hit and can either Heal Bell the status off or deal some good damage with Shadow Ball

i think flamethrower shiuld be used > fire blast. It is more accurate, and weezing isn't about doing a lot of damage. If it misses out on some crucial kills fire blast can stay. But I prefer Flamethrower so I can kill Scoli more reliably and stuff

also haze > taunt imo

[SET]

 • Yeah, I agree with Raseri on Haze being better than Taunt. Since Weezing is pretty slow, it's not the best user of the move; I'd rather see Taunt in AC than on the set itself.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

 • On the Black Sludge v. Leftovers part, the only real argument I see for using Leftovers on a Poison-type is that you don't want Trick users to Trick your Black Sludge onto another Pokemon. I'd mention that instead, but emphasize that Black Sludge punishes foes that use Trick and makes them want to Trick it back to you.
 • Move Sludge Wave to OO. It's completely inferior, since you only lose out on 5 BP in exchange for 20% more chance to Poison.
 • Since Weezing loses to CB Sawk, one of the few physical attacker in the tier it struggles badly to beat, Musharna is pretty good alongside Weezing to check it and take Psychic-type moves aimed at it. Having two physical walls isn't always attractive though, but still not a bad Pokemon to mention, since it covers both of Weezing's weaknesses. could be good on stall :0

Looks good overall. Make these changes and:

Thank you Raseri and Treecko, implemented! I'll just wait for other QC's opinion on the subject regarding Taunt because I feel like its a pretty decent move and is justifieable on the main set, forcing out walls like Lickilicky which it wouldn't be able to do otherwise as well as render Regirock and Piloswine useless when Weezing's on the field. Base 60 Speed is useful enough for a wall imo, though as I said I'll wait for other QC members to state their opinion.

0SpAtk Weezing (Neutral) Fire Blast vs 4HP/0SpDef Scolipede (Neutral): 77% - 92% (204 - 242 HP). Guaranteed 2HKO.

Without Fire Blast, you miss out on the KO after SR of Scolipede. However, there are about 0 times out of 0 that Scolipede would willingly switch into Weezing, or stay in on it.

0SpAtk Weezing (Neutral) Fire Blast vs 252HP/0SpDef Eviolite Light Metal Metang (Neutral): 37% - 44% (122 - 144 HP). Guaranteed 3HKO.

0SpAtk Weezing (Neutral) Flamethrower vs 252HP/0SpDef Eviolite Light Metal Metang (Neutral): 29% - 35% (96 - 114 HP). Guaranteed 4HKO.

Without Fire Blast, you miss the 3hko on Metang.

Just some things to think about before I do an actual check, since I think Fire Blast vs Flamethrower is a classic "Power vs Accuracy" dilemma, and I dont think there's a wrong answer here.

Ok, after a bit of thought, I believe Flamethrower should stay, open to other opinions though!
Here's why:

• Weezing's main job is to wall and burn physical attackers. So instead of attacking things like metang, why not burn it? Fire blast is a 3hko while flamethrower could also be a 3hko, and residual burn helps too (it also helps fire blast but a burned metang does nothing to Weezing anyway). Damage lost can be recovered by black sludge.

• Special attack is uninvested. Yeah, risking an 85% move that isn't too strong may not be worth that much. But those calcs may be worth taking the risk for.

• As you said, they wouldn't stay in on Weezing anyway, and flamethrower is not too far of a jump in power compared to Fire blast.

• If running the move, Taunt shuts down Scolipede from setting up more than one layer of Spikes too, so there's that.

black sludge should be the item, theres a thread about it soomewherem ill link to it later if i remember. [qc]2/3[/qc]

Wrote everything (took me 3 hours -__-). I feel like I'm missing something, and if not, well this is ready for a check!

Sludge Bomb is a moderately strong STAB attack that hits many relevant Pokemon in the tier hard.
Examples?
Haze practically sets the opponent's boosted stats back to 0, which is useful against Substitute + Bulk Up Braviary and Nasty Plot Misdreavus.
Remove the word "practically," this is what Haze does.
[Checks and Counters]
Add Jynx as at least a check; it takes huge damage from Flamethrower/Fire Blast, but it can come in after a kill and start wrecking shit.

:)

I tweaked and reworded awkward portions of the analysis and this is awaiting its final QC check.

Which essentially means that this is a bump.

Overview needs to be condensed a bit. Use:

Just like many of the Poison-types residing in the NU tier, Weezing has a relatively wide array of offensive and supportive moves. However, its movepool is not Weezing's only asset, as it has a remarkable Defense stat, great defensive typing, and immunity to any form of Spikes thanks to its ability in Levitate. With these factors considered, Weezing can counter the likes of Golurk, Primeape, Sawsbuck, and Scolipede all at once — which not many Pokemon can boast about. While its Special Attack might not be stellar, it is enough to hit many Pokemon in the tier for some solid damage. Unfortunately, Weezing faces stiff competition from Misdreavus, which practically runs the same support moves Weezing uses, but with an added bonus of immunities to Normal- and Fighting-type attacks. It's HP is not as large as, say, Alomomola and Lickilicky, and it has mediocre Special Defense stat which is easily preyed upon. Its Speed stat, while decent for a wall, is just a cut short on outspeeding standard Golurk and Alomomola. Other physical walls like the aforementioned Alomomola and Tangela can either pass a Wish or put something to sleep respectively, making it harder for Weezing to stand out from its competiton.

I could probably condense it further but not much of this is fluff anymore.

In Additional Comments:

For teammates, Lickilicky can sponge most special hits and can pass big Wishes to Weezing. -- add audino here

In Checks and counters:

Regice can tank four Fire Blasts and can get rid off Weezing with three Ice Beams at most.
-- change this to flamethrower

do these and i'll stamp

Toxic is usually not recommended, as Weezing's main job is burning opponents, and there are much better candidates to do that job. Clear Smog may also be used in the last slot, but it is generally inferior to Haze, which can pass through Substitute. For teammates, Lickilicky and Audino can sponge most special hits and can pass big Wishes to Weezing. Metang and Skuntank can come in on any Psychic-type Pokemon such as, including Jynx (when something is already put to sleep) and Musharna, walling or Pursuit trapping them, respectively. Weezing can support Ludicolo and Tauros by beating Scolipede and Golurk for them. Musharna can handle Mold Breaker Sawk, making it a good partner ion stall and balanced teams.

Rocky Helmet is a useful item that Weezing can use, which allows it to cut down HP of an opponent using a contact move, but the loss of the passive recovery can degrade its much-needed lifespan. Sludge Wave is slightly stronger than Sludge Bomb, but Weezing enjoys the higher poison chance than the power most of the time.

[Checks and Counters]

Bulky Psychic-types,(comma) such as Musharna, Duosion, and Gardevoir,(comma) take little damage from Weezing's attacks, don't mind Taunt too much, and can use Psychic for the kill. Jynx can OHKO with Psychic, but it shouldn't switch in(space)to Weezing because it getis hit hard withby Flamethrower. Fire-types,(comma) such as Charizard, Simisear, and Camerupt,(comma) can proceed to come in on a Fire-type move and roast Weezing with their Fire-typeSTAB attacks; however, the first two get hit hard with Sludge Bomb, so you should be cautious. Generally, strong special attackers,(comma) such as Life Orb Haunter and Eelektross,(comma) can dispatch of Weezing in two hits with their STAB moves. A fast Taunt from Misdreavus andor Samurott can also prevent Weezing from doing much. Regice can take even a Flamethrower and retaliate back with Ice Beam.

I'm done! But I'm not sure with this bit:
outspeeding key threats such as standard Golurk and Alomomola
That word "standard" was removed, but Golurk has a base 55 Speed stat whereas Weezing has a base 60. Most, if not all, Golurk tends to run Speed EVs to outspeed base 60s. If the word "standard" should be removed, I'll just replace it with Roselia for the time being; if not, then I'll add it back again.
