Weezing (Update)

New to this so I hope it's ok.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

[OVERVIEW]

Weezing is one of the greatest physical walls to use in the UU metagame, as it can deal with top physical threats like Dragon Dance Feraligatr and Swords Dance Venusaur exceptionally well. If your team is weak to physical sweepers, Weezing can easily remedy the problem with its great physical bulk and access to Will-O-Wisp. However, Weezing suffers due to its low Special Defense stat and hence can be easily defeated by most powerful neutral special attacks.

[SET]
name: Physical Wall
move 1: Flamethrower / Sludge Bomb
move 2: Thunderbolt
move 3: Will-O-Wisp / Haze
move 4: Pain Split
item: Leftovers
nature: Bold
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD

[SET COMMENTS]

Weezing is a fantastic physical wall with its 120 base Defense stat coupled with a usable base 65 HP stat. Its Poison-typing and Levitate ability allow it to switch into Fighting- and Ground-type attacks without fear.

Weezing can easily switch into the deadliest of sweepers and pose an immediate threat with either a burn via Will-O-Wisp or by negating the foe's stat boosts with Haze. On the attacking side, Fire Blast or Flamethrower allows you to hit the likes of Torterra and Registeel for super effective damage. The second attacking slot goes to Thunderbolt in order to hit Pokemon who resist Weezing's Fire-type move, such as Feraligatr and Azumarill. Pain Split is Weezing's most reliable recovery method; it isn't ideal by any means, but is satisfactory nonetheless.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

Weezing's biggest weakness is its average Special Defense stat combined with its average HP stat, which means most special attacks will deal heavy damage. A partner such as Chansey is excellent at sponging the special attacks that will fly Weezing's way, while Weezing can take the physical Fighting-type moves that are bound to attack Chansey. Chansey can also pass Wish to help Weezing recover health more reliably. Weezing tends to lure in Psychic-type Pokemon, so a Dark-type such as Drapion can benefit from the free switch-in by setting up Toxic Spikes or using Swords Dance. Houndoom is another Dark-type who can benefit from a free switch into a Psychic-type attack with its ability to set up with Nasty Plot.

[SET]
name: RestTalker
move 1: Flamethrower / Fire Blast
move 2: Will-O-Wisp / Thunderbolt
move 3: Rest
move 4: Sleep Talk
item: Leftovers
nature: Bold
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD

[SET COMMENTS]

With this set, Weezing uses the more reliable recovery duo of Rest and Sleep Talk to absorb status and potentially deal out status. Flamethrower or Fire Blast are Weezing's best option for a reliable attacking move, as Fire-type attacks provide good coverage in UU. Will-O-Wisp is to escape being set-up bait for the likes of Dragon Dance Altaria and Dragon Dance Feraligatr, but Thunderbolt is an option instead to prevent Weezing from being walled by most Fire-types.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

RestTalk Weezing has very similar problems to the Physical Wall set: powerful special attacks and Psychic-type attacks. Again, Chansey is recommended to sponge special attacks for Weezing, while Weezing can take the Fighting-type attacks aimed at Chansey. If Weezing lacks Thunderbolt, it is completely walled by Houndoom, as Houndoom eats any Fire-type attacks Weezing uses and converts them into a Flash Fire boost. Thick Fat Hariyama and Poliwrath are good partners for Weezing in this scenario, as they both resist Houndoom's STAB attacks and can retaliate with a super effective STAB move in return. Both of them will have to watch out for Hidden Power Flying, however.

The decision between Fire Blast and Flamethrower is a matter of PP and accuracy versus power; for a defensive Pokemon, PP and accuracy are vital assets to have, so Flamethrower is generally preferred.

[TEAM OPTIONS]

Due to Weezing's poor Special Defense stat, it can easily be severely damaged by most powerful special attacks. As such, a Pokemon who can shrug off special attacks is essential to using Weezing successfully. Chansey is the perfect Pokemon for this position, as she takes the special attacks aimed at Weezing with her huge HP and Special Defense stats, and is also capable of crippling special attackers with Thunder Wave or Toxic. They also have good type synergy, as Weezing can take the Fighting-type attacks aimed at Chansey. Registeel is another valuable partner for Weezing, as it resists the Psychic-type attacks Weezing hates with its good Special Defense stat, and Weezing can take the Fighting- and Ground-type attacks Registeel dislikes. Registeel can also support the team with Stealth Rock and Thunder Wave.

In addition to Weezing's weakness to special attacks, its Psychic-type weakness opens up more problems. Again, Registeel can be used to sponge Psychic-type attacks aimed at Weezing. Dark-type Pokemon like Absol and Drapion also appreciate a free switch into a Psychic-type attack; Absol can switch into a Psychic-type attack and either dispatch of the Psychic-type user with STAB Pursuit or set up a Swords Dance to sweep while Drapion can also use the Psychic-type attack to switch in and set up a Swords Dance or Toxic Spikes.

[OPTIONAL CHANGES]

Memento is usable if you need to cripple a Pokemon to set up one of your own. Taunt can work to prevent the opponent from inflicting Weezing with status or recovering itself, and Weezing outspeeds the common defensive Pokemon who sit at base 50 Speed, so it can make some use of it. Explosion can be used to surprise Pokemon such as Houndoom who expect Weezing to flee.

Weezing can use a more offensive set with Thunderbolt, Fire Blast, and a Hidden Power of choice, but it is generally inferior to most other special attackers while losing out on its fantastic bulk to an extent.

In terms of EVs, Weezing should stick to maximum HP and Defense, as that helps it wall physical attackers better, and trying to increase its Special Defense isn't usually worth the loss in Defense.

[COUNTERS]

Houndoom is the biggest threat to Weezing as it can come in on a Fire-type attack, pick up a Flash Fire boost in the process, and force Weezing out with powerful STAB special attacks. Other Fire-types such as Arcanine and Moltres tend to be effective Weezing counters as well since they resist Weezing's Fire-type attacks and are immune to Will-O-Wisp.

Any hard-hitting special attacker tends to give Weezing trouble due to its low Special Defense and the fact that special attackers tend to not mind Will-O-Wisp. Offensive Milotic is a good counter to Weezing, as it can use the burn from Will-O-Wisp to activate Marvel Scale and proceed to smash Weezing with a STAB Hydro Pump.

Chansey sponges Weezing's special attacks excellently, and can cripple Weezing with Thunder Wave. She also doesn't mind a burn thanks to Natural Cure.

RestTalkers with a boosting move such as Spiritomb can switch into Weezing and set up on it with ease as they don't mind status. The only problem to be wary of is Weezing who carry Haze.

imo the wall set should have Flamethrower / Sludge Bomb slashed; there’s not much that you need to hit super effectively and Poison STAB is pretty good in UU.

this means something was added
this means something was deleted (example: “I train dragons and and Pikachu” gets edited as “I train dragons and Pikachu”)

Also, I'm not sure if Base 65 HP and Base 70 Special Defense is "average"

Thanks for the checks.
move 1: Flamethrower / Fire Blast / Sludge Bomb
Is that what you meant, whistle? Or just remove Fire Blast altogether?
Also, I'm not sure if Base 65 HP and Base 70 Special Defense is "average"
With the likes of Mismagius, Raikou and even Milotic lurking in UU I would consider it quite average, yes.

Weezing already has an OU Overview, and all the extras at the bottom, so you can just delete all the mentions of OU-related things.

Just avoiding repetition at the "attack" part.

With this set, Weezing uses the more reliable recovery duo of Rest and Sleep Talk to absorb status and potentially deal out status. The attacking moves are very similar to the Physical Wall set, with Fire Blast or Flamethrower and Thunderbolt to provide good coverage. Will-O-Wisp is an option over Thunderbolt to escape being set-up bait for the likes of Dragon Dance Altaria and Dragon Dance Feraligatr.

Highlighting because it needs some rewording here. Will-O-Wisp is the main option, not just an alternative to Thunderbolt (which Thunderbolt is).

Also, should this set really only have Fire-type attacks as its main options? Perhaps even Sludge Bomb could be the main attack despite being immune to Steel (which Will-O-Wisp should take care of). Type coverage is very limited for a RestTalker so I don't see why going Sludge Bomb is a bad idea.

RestTalk Weezing has very similar problems to the Physical Wall set: powerful special attacks and Psychic-type attacks. Again, Chansey is recommended to sponge special attacks for Weezing, while Weezing can take the Fighting-type attacks aimed at Chansey. If Weezing lacks Thunderbolt, (comma) it is completely walled by Houndoom, as Houndoom eats any Fire-type attacks Weezing uses and converts them into a Flash Fire boost. Thick Fat Hariyama and Poliwrath are good partners for Weezing in this scenario, as they both resist Houndoom's STAB attacks and can retaliate with a super effective STAB move in return. Both of them will have to watch out for Hidden Power Flying, however.

I changed it to "valuable" to avoid repetition.

In addition to Weezing's weakness to special attacks in general (remove), its Psychic-type weakness opens up more problems. Again, Registeel can be used to sponge Psychic-type attacks aimed at Weezing. Dark-type Pokemon like Absol and Drapion also appreciate a free switch into a Psychic-type attack; (semi-colon) Absol can switch into a Psychic-type attack and either dispatch of the Psychic-type user with STAB Pursuit or set up a Swords Dance to sweep (remove period) while Drapion can also use the Psychic-type attack to switch in and set up a Swords Dance or Toxic Spikes.

Semi-colon because the next sentence was really in relation to the previous sentence.

Weezing can use a more offensive set with Thunderbolt, Fire Blast, and a Hidden Power of choice, but it is generally inferior to most other special attackers while losing out on its fantastic bulk to an extent.

RestTalkers with a boosting move such as Spiritomb can switch into Weezing and set up on it with ease as they don't mind status. The only problem to be wary of is Weezing who carry Haze.

Sorry to bump this up but i feel it needs being said, having used Weezing extensively.

[SET]
name: Physical Wall
move 1: Sludge Bomb / Thunderbolt
move 2: Flamethrower
move 3: Will-O-Wisp / Haze
move 4: Pain Split
item: Leftovers
nature: Bold
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Sludge Bomb should be the primary option on both sets imo in UU due to Weezing being the fire type bait that it is. Sludge Bomb really nails them for good damage. Especially since it only has base 85 sp.att and its nice to be able to do more than 2 damage and not rely on unstabbed weak attacks.

Poison is also a great stab (in uu) and it does more net damage than Thunderbolt will vs neutral targets. T-Bolt doesn't really hit much that Sludge Bomb/Flamethrower + Wisp wont cover apart from water types really but you can burn the physically oriented ones anyway, that and Sludge Bomb still hits them for neutral and breaks Azu's/Poli's subs so i mean yeah. Leave T-Bolt as a slash though if you really want to hit water/rock + Qwilfish i guess.

Ive tested Taunt and it could possibly be mentioned in set comments too as it stops sub seeding which is really the only issue Weezing has with grass types, it fits over the fire move. In addition its also rather fun to stop things Spiking on you and outstalling slower walls is really cool (I ran enough to outspeed 0 speed base 70's which isn't as bad as it sounds, only took around 84 ish evs in speed)

[SET]
name: RestTalker
move 1: Sludge Bomb
move 2: Will-O-Wisp
move 3: Rest
move 4: Sleep Talk
item: Leftovers
nature: Bold
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
This set should be changed simply because it was such a free switch in for so many things. Sludge Bomb + Wisp have optimal coverage together and hit all the things you want to beat as well as threatening switch ins.

Some special Defense Ev's are also fantastic on both sets and alot of players are using this at the moment, they REALLY help weathering Leaf Storms/Sludge Bomb's/Energy Balls from Venusaur/Sceptile and the like.

Other than that i cant really see any issues. Good job. ^^

Yeah Weezing definitely needs some special defense EVs, it's no good being called a counter to Venusaur when LO Sludge Bomb -> LO Leaf Storm actually kills you with minor residual damage.

However, Weezing suffers due to its low Special Defense stat and hence is easily defeated by most powerful neutral special attacks.

[SET]
name: Physical Wall
move 1: Flamethrower / Sludge Bomb
move 2: Thunderbolt
move 3: Will-O-Wisp / Haze
move 4: Pain Split
item: Leftovers
nature: Bold
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD

[SET COMMENTS]

Weezing is a fantastic physical wall with its 120 base Defense stat coupled with a usable base 65 HP stat. Its typing and Levitate ability allow it to switch into Fighting- and Ground-type attacks without fear.

Will-O-Wisp is to escape being set-up bait from the likes of Dragon Dance Altaria and Dragon Dance Feraligatr, but Thunderbolt is an option instead to prevent Weezing from being walled by most Fire-types.

Due to Weezing's poor Special Defense stat, it can be severely damaged by most powerful special attacks.

Firstly the special defensive Sleeptalk Weezing set is already added and secondly physical Resttalk Weezing works well too just pair it with a good special wall like Registeel/Chansey/SDef-Milotic.

Actually the two sets that he has on here can use an update. Weezing overall is updated (Overview, Specially Defensive, OC, Team Options, and Counters), but not the Physically Defensive or the RestTalk set.

Actually the whole thing could use a minor update.
