what are substitutes best uses??

^or u just fireblast a ghost switch in infernape is a terrible sub user with sandstorm spikes and sub your just killing yourself

Zapdos is my favortie sub user either pressure stalling or baton passing to a skarm/gengar/ttar it is deadly allowing them to focus punch or get free moves

baton pass teams desperatly need sub for scouting and to stop from being critted and to setup the chain or guard from leech seed and status

I think Azumarill greatly appreciates substitute. Not only withs its high hp it blocks t-wave and w-o-w, pluss lets it use focus punch to its maximum.(not really)

And again there are pokemon with swarm, blaze, overgrow(sceptile), toorent(feralgaer proply with DD)...

also can it not be used on really slow pokemon? it gets you a free turn with dusknoir (as it usually did) and give me a free will-o-wisp.

This is useless unless you aren't confident about your prediction.

If they switch out, you lose 25% health with Substitute then Will-o-Wisp. Or you just Will-o-Wisp right away, and don't lose 25% health.

If they don't switch out, you compound their damage by 25% (unless they do less than 25% damage, in which case you would be winning, but opponents generally aren't dumb enough to stay into Dusknoir if they can't do more than 25% to it), and then Will-o-Wisp. If you don't Substitute but just Will-o-Wisp, you got it for less.
