General What brought you to Smogon?

Smogon brought me here cause I needed a pokemon fourms with a community that has comeptive battling and stuffz,so I decided why not smog man? And then I'm like..HOLY CRAP BEST FOURMS EVER. Smogon = Swag = Cool = Smogon :mad:

Smogon = cool I agree, but they banned swagplay, so I have to disagree on the swag bit.

As boltsandbombers said, it was actually pretty effective. To give you an idea of how effective it was, gamefreak recently created a pokemon that was so disgustingly powerful that it had to be banned from ubers (Megarayquaza, in case you didn't know). So Smogon created a new metagame just for that pokemon where you can use anything you want. But Megaray isn't even the dominant strategy in that new metagame. It constantly gets its ass handed to it by Swagplay. So yeah.
 
Hello, cute users.

What brought me to Smogon™ was a staff group, I was either invited by Skitty or Jasmine. At first I knew nothing about Smogon™, and I found it really confusing. I didn't know what threads were at the time, lol. Over time I learned a lot more about Smogon™, thanks to a lot of cute users. ♥ hihi
 
Smogon is very widely used among competitive battlers and apart from the occasional "No One Tells Me Who To Use!" it is very well respected. A lot of the PokéTubers I watch follow Smogon Rules, the Movesets, EV spreads and discussions are all very well laid out. Also, the community seems very active and well informed.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure they're also awarded for things like major Smogon tournaments and completing the Puzzle Page in the Smog. They're generally pretty hard to get without a badge though :/

edit: Anyways, as for what brought me to Smogon, I'm pretty sure I just stumbled upon the analyses one day when looking for good movesets to use in-game. I soon discovered Balanced Hackmons and decided to stick around :)
 
Was tired of VGC but still loved Pokemon. I've been playing singles pokemon-showdown UU for a while now and its been pretty great. Excited to get more invested in competitive singles play. Also I love meeting new people, joining forums, and having fun conversations.

I love using PU pokemon and other stuff that often gets written off. More specifically: Gogoat, Bouffalant (or as I call him: Puffallo), and my favourite pokemon EVER: Realicanth.

(srs tho... I've swept teams unprepared for head smash realicanth. It's really gimmicky, but I like it).

Also I like using event pokemon competitively via pokemon showdown. The lameness of tournament legal event pokemon is blah (looking at you: Mew and Celebi)..
 
Back in hs a few of my friends were into BW2 and used to battle all the time. I hadn't played since gen 3 and the amount of fun they had made me want to join in. I lost pretty badly at first but then while looking online for how to build competitive teams I came across smogon and have been here ever since.
 
A friend told me about EV training awhile back, I googled it, and stumbled across Smogon. From there I got really involved with C&C, the Smog, as well as the lower tiers of competitive. Made a buncha friends here, even met up with one in HK of all places... I learned a lot and I'll always remember the relationships I formed and the things I experienced. It was definitely a big part of my pre-university life.

I do miss it sometimes~

I wonder if I've been gone long enough for everyone to forget me heh...
 
I've always known about Smogon, never really used it. I lurk on the /vp pokemon forums of 4chan a lot and they love to bring Smogon up over there. Figured i'd finally get an account done for myself.
 
Long time lurker here, I got started with smogon when I started battling with my cousins. I had no idea on how to ev train or what a competitive pokemon looked like. Later thanks to a lot of the advice I saw here and team building guides I was able to develop teams to beat all of my cousins hacked pokemon.
 
When i found Showdown, that's actually the perfect Battle Simulator, then i started following smogon automatically.
 
Looked on the internet for a good simulator and was told Showdown was the one, so i registered and been playing random and mono for the couple last months. I started "studying" Smogon's builds to help my performance and team building, and now i decided to come here.
 
Way back in the gen 4 days. (when i was fairly inexperienced with pokemon.) I was looking up some top 10 lists or random pokemon fact videos or something, and i came across mtgxerxes's youtube channel. I started binge watching all of his videos and got really interested in the competitive scene. He would keep mentioning, "tier lists", "ev's", "iv's" and the like, so i decided to investigate. Which in turn led me to serebii, bulbapedia, and eventually smogon. I have been a competitive battler since gen 4, and i have no intention of stopping.
