What is the hardest Video Game you have ever played?

I had to add one more game with an impecable boss.

I'm definitely not the most hardcore or experienced gamer around, but the one game I've played that's made me frustrated to no end was Kirby Tilt and Tumble for GBC. I think there were 8 worlds, and the first 5 or so were pretty easy... but then the last world was a pain in the ass. I never beat it, and I don't think I've touched that game for at least 4 years just because of how much it pissed me off.
 
I think that the single most difficult game that I have ever played was Mechcommander for PC (it came out in 1998/1999) I got it the day before I enrolled in fourth grade and that game smoked me. The first 4 missions, piece of cake, the next 8 missions, ehh, okay difficulty, next 6 REALLY HARD, next 6 almost impossible last 6 nearly impossible, this is the game that the developers acknowledged as so hard that they realeased a patch to make it easier, by giving you the best mech in the game for the first mission, and it is still INSANELY HARD. I beat it around three years ago for the first time, and I felt a lot of pride in doing it. The game is difficult because the mechs that you can buy from your side suck a lot of butt, so you have to salvage the enemy's mechs (which are lighter, better armored, hold more weapons and are typically 35-70% faster) as well as salvage the enmy's weapons, and the enemy weapons are so much better than your own they're really incomparable. Without activating cheats, this game is very difficult. Not that i advocate illegal behavior, but if anyone is interested, it is available via bittorrent (should work with daemon tools).
 
The Getaway. It doesn't help that I suck at using PS2 controls, but for whatever reason I can't remember I kept dying and gave up on the second mission.
 
Kid Icarus is a really hard game I've been playing on VC. I just managed to beat level 2 after 2 weeks.
 
Hardest game I played was my jap import of FE6 for the GBA, on hard mode it took me about a year and a halfs worth of restarting level after level due to someone dying from RNG rapage and mass amounts of enemies.
 
Super Star Wars: A New Hope for the SNES. On Jedi difficulty. The point that I gave up on it was spending nine lives without doing a single thing to the boss of the eighth level (that was on easy, too). Oh, you can't save either. There was also another part where you could not touch the ground while being pushed around by a large flame-spewing boss. I manage to make it past that level (level 4) 15-20% of the time...
 
When i was around 7 or 8 years old i had a game called cobra triangle for the nes, Its made me punch the floor, smash 2 controllers and it almost made me cry once. If there is a hell the makers of that game are going to it without question.

Halo 2 on legendary was pretty damn brutal, especially in co-op mode. Uuugh! makes me sick thinking about it! lol
oh! i forgot The Legend Of Zelda: Link's Awakening, for the game boy, my sister, me and my friend Cal all failed to complete it...

the hours i waste on bloody games is a joke... lol

Ditto this, but -Imperishable Night, +Perfect Cherry Blossom. I can beat Imperishable Night on hard, but still have trouble with Perfect Cherry Blossom on medium at some points. If anyone's unfamiliar with these games, as I'm sure most are - they're a series of games made by a Japanese guy, Zun.
This is the game on normal mode, the middle stage. So about the "middlest" difficulty - http://youtube.com/watch?v=acGqB59YMQU If you want to see something truly impressive look for the extra stage (called Phantasm) or a lunatic mode clear.

Other than this:
Beatmania iidx(hardest rythm game) and ghouls and goblins.
 
F-Zero GX. One of the games I had the patience to keep trying at though. Just need to complete Master difficulty with a few more characters to finish it.

But it's okay, since he's my friend I can throw him into his pool after the match =D
