What programs do people use

Hey all! Stalltaria here, on what could legitimately be;
My first non ban inducing, and serious post.
Browsing through this gallery, I see a lot of unique aspiring artists, who all seem to be using different programs!

I myself am not well accustomed to these said programs, and I was wondering if you could all help me decide which one I should be using!

I have a broken Mac Book Pro(late 2011) that I recently received as a free gift from a friend, and would love to hear from you, any and all suggestions ^_^

I am adept as a freehand drawer, doing *a lot* of graffiti based art work in my slightly younger years
(yes that can include a limited variety of cartoon characters)
Just in case that helps in any way =)


With that being said, I am going to go draw up my fierst 'piece'
(graffiti term for big arty looking block letters that you cant read)

in months. :o
