What was the best Nintendo Console?

Well thanks to everyone who voted.

It seems like Smogon's favorite Nintendo Console seems to be the Nintendo 64 followed slowly by the Super Nintendo.

This makes a lot of since since the primary voting age would be ~16-17.
And they likely grew up with these consoles, reflecting its popularity.

The Gamecube and Wii had much less votes, primarily because the nostalgia value is not as high, but still they were good.

Lastly there's the classic NES. It still does have some fans, and for good reason, because it's a classic which began the Career of Mario, Link and Samus, who still have great games today.

dude the overall quality and breadth if that's a word of games on the snes far surpass the n64's. for it's time, snes was better, imo. n64's best games were better, but snes had more of them. but obviously, i'd rather have a wii today than an snes or n64, since it can play both.

I don't really see a need for an end time for the poll unless you're doing something with this data. Which you technically can't as you never asked anyone permission to =P

I agree with Vincent. The only reason I can see the N64 winning is due to the age group. Was the N64 a lot of people's first console that they were able to appreciate (so like not an SNES when they were 2)? It honestly was a pretty shitty console except for its few great hits. I mean, you put it up next to the PlayStation and it's completely outclassed unless you're a huge platformer fan.

The reason the GCN is low is because it was essentially the N64 without the nostalgia behind it like you said. The franchises being overall weaker that time around (except Melee and the appearance of Metroid Prime) hurt as did the loss of Rare + decrease in quality of Rare games. Rare made up 50% of the N64's hits, the other 50% being Nintendo.

The Wii is just a shitty system. I can't defend it.

The fact that N64 won is a travesty. SNES is far better. Games like Mortal Kombat on SNES shaped gaming.

N64 wasn't a big enough leap forwards for me. At the time of the N64, Sony were already using discs for games, while N64 was stuck with cartidges that more often than not had to be blown on to get them working.

I'm just sorry that I missed my chance to vote.

Don't get me wrong, i loved the N64 it had a decent library and some big hits.

But i think people that has voted so far didn't appreciate the SNES and NES that much, probably because they got to play the N64 more.

We had the chance to play the SNES at its time and it was amazing,i mean like the first time i saw Super Mario World as a kid, i was stunned, it was something totally new for me, but it's not the same if you see that when a new console is out, you outclass it inmediatly.

My real problem with SNES vs N64 is not about what console is better, is about certain game: Zelda, everybody says the best Zelda is Ocarina of Time, bullshit!. The best Zelda is Link to the past.
