Dear thechickening,
You are Tom Nook.
Tom Nook is a capitalist. As would be expected of a capitalist, he therefore has no moral code or ethics, and is keen to exploit anyone he deems beneath him for all they’re worth. And to a megalomaniac like Tom Nook, everyone is beneath him. Let’s all thank Nintendo for teaching children about the ills of capitalism, because journalists sure don’t, and kids from ignorant families need to get this education from somewhere!
Passive 1: Redistributive Wealth]
Listen, it’s not your fault the world works this way, it’s just how it is. You got born with the wealth, so more wealth is simply your birthright, right? Sure, the proletariat might be allowed to get degrees now, but they work for you, so their knowledge is basically your knowledge.
If a player targets you with an ability you have learned the name of via Active 1: Landlord, or that you have witnessed them using via Active 2: Credit Check, you will receive a one-shot use of this ability.
[Active 1: Landlord]
There’s nothing wrong with housing being privatised, trust. Like yeah, the right to shelter is protected by the UN, but that’s the Government’s problem. If people don’t want to pay up, they can find somewhere else to live. Your properties are yours, that’s why you build em, or buy em from other people who already built em, pretty much the same thing. Makes the world go round, etc. etc..
At night you may target a player with “Buy [PLAYER1]’s House”. You will become PLAYER1’s landlord, and thus it’s only fair that you now surveille their property. Because, y’know, what if they get a pet? You charge extra for that. As a result of this surveillance, you will learn the identities of anyone who visits PLAYER1 tonight.
[Active 2: Credit Check]
Money can be used in two ways. It can be used to buy stuff, and it can also be used to sell stuff. Or, I mean, in the case of being a landlord, people aren’t really buying anything from you, they’re just forced to give you money or you’ll make them homeless. It’s more like blackmail, really. Uhhh but your role’s designed in a your first Active ability is the “buy” component and this one’s the “sell” component, so we’ll ignore that.
At night you may target a player with “Credit Check [PLAYER1]”. PLAYER1, having come to you for a mortgage, has also obviously given you permission to investigate them a little bit. As a result, you will learn the name of one of PLAYER1’s Active abilities, determined at random. Furthermore, if the ability is currently locked, you will learn its unlock condition.
You are Town. You win when all mafia are dead.
