[WIN] Windburn Gulch (Hard) - Dogfish44 and Maxim

Round 6

Pandora and Naturia start healing Tango, while the Ludicolo tries to gain the foe's attention once more - but Heatran keeps pounding on Cumulus. Luckily though the Castform endures the blow rather well, even thanks to the berry it was holding in store. This allows the rest of the team to keep up the offense with relative impunity.

"Conflagrate's coming up soon - I'm going to have Ludi keep attacking, do as you wish. I will say that we will need to make sure that Water Sport goes up again in my honest opinion, and keep an eye on your energy - I don't think we desperately need to chill this round unless you don't have the EN available to attack twice."

Ludicolo: Hydro Pump ~ Scald

Sunflora: Earth Power ~ Hydro Pump

Cherrim: Weather Ball ~ Hidden Power

Exeggutor: Hydro Pump ~ Hidden Power

"If we all attack we leave Heatran at around the 100 HP Point, which means we can chill as needed round 8 and then KO - if you want me to go for a more defensive action set now let me know, ok?"

7Wv0cgL.png

"Sounds good to me. I think I can get away with not chilling next round actually, since Roserade and Stratagem only use 12 energy for their actions and Castform has plenty of energy left."

Alurani (Roserade): Weather Ball~Hidden Power

Cumulus (Castform): Hydro Pump~Weather Ball

Pandora (Necturna): Chill~Stone Edge

Origin (Stratagem): Mud Shot~Earth Power

Round 7

The team goes on an all-out offense with its last remaining energies, but Heatran isn't bowed down yet. After rushing at Tango, it blasts Alurani with a concussive burst of flames that leaves her stunned.

Now that the path is clear, you resume advancing. This is easier said than done, though, as the air gets hotter with every step. You feel withered out by the oppressive heat, but nevertheless you keep going. After several more platforms, you arrive to a staggering vista. A caldera extends for a couple miles of diameter below, surrounded on three sides by the ocean. Apparently, only a rocky bridge connects it to the rest of the island.

After some uncertainty, you decide to go anyway, and start descending the narrow route which leads you down and down until you find yourself at the start of the bridge. Looked from here, it seems like a sinuous tongue of land which spans throughout the sea, similar to a snake crawling on the soil. The path is no more perilous than the one you went through so far, thus spurring you to cross the bridge without much fears. After some minutes, you find yourself on the edge of the caldera.

A lake of magma boils before your very eyes, emitting sulphureous gases into the hot air which nurtures red and brown plants which oddily manage to survive in such an hostile environment. Above you, the sun is tremendously shiny, above and beyond what it uses to be at this time of the day. You drink from your water pouches repeatedly to withstand the drought, but you can't hold on for long - unlike the plants. Therefore, you start looking around, in search of any clues of whether something in this place caused the storm which invested the Bright Hope ship.

Fascinating. You are stronger than I expected, after all.

You jump in shock at the sound of the ominous voice which echoed before. Still, as you turn your eyes around frantically, you cannot see anyone.

Looks like I can't help it. Mortals can't be allowed to interfere with the Great Renewal.

Perhaps because of your sixth sense, or perhaps just out of pure fear, you turn your eyes above your heads.

200px-Artwork645.png

"What's the Great Renewal?", you ask, perplexed.
"The short memory span of your kind always surprises me", comments the genie with a malicious smile. "Even if your ancestors sculpted the myth of the Great Renewal itself in the hallowed vaults within the Shrine of the Old Gods, none of you seems to remember it".
"Wait", says one of you. "So, these ruins... were once inhabited by humans?"
"In a time where humans occupied their right place in the order of the universe, yes", replies the genie. "Now, everything changed... but it will be remedied very soon. Mewtwo is just a means to a greater end. While you... you're just insignificant gnats who must be wiped out".
Before you can respond, he suddenly disappears, as if he teleported himself away somehow. You don't have time to worry about it, though, as the earth starts to tremble intensely. After a few instants, a gigantic creature emerges from the lake of lava!

m5hp2dmr.jpg

You ready your Poké Balls in defense, when two beings leap out, flanking the beast and pointing their cannon-like arms against you!

After one final struggle for breath, the Heatran fainted with a thud, all four legs spreading out from under it. I celebrated our victory, but then I remembered that my Aerodactyl had been blown back a bit, so I started searching for both him and whatever I needed to get out of this place. It was easier said than done, though, as the air got hotter with every step. It was exhaustingly hot, and though I was used to it being from the south, it was still felt excruciating. After several more platforms, we arrived at a staggering vista. A caldera extended for a couple miles of diameter below, surrounded on three sides by the ocean. Apparently, only a rocky bridge connected it to the rest of the island.

The route descended and lead us down until we finally reached the bridge. From where I was standing, it seemed like a sinuous tongue of land which spanned throughout the sea, similar to a snake crawling on the soil. I was a bit worried about the bridge, so I crossed with some trepidation. Still, I managed to make it to the caldera without much trouble.

Much to my dismay, all we initially found on the other side was a typical pit of boiling magma. Strangely, I did see some red-brown plants that seemed to thrive, despite the hostile conditions. As if things couldn't be hot enough, the sun bore down on us, which caused me to empty my water canister. I found myself dismayed, if I wasn't careful I could possibly dehydrate myself here. I would definitely need to find Korangir fast in case I needed a quick exit out of here. Alas, no matter where I looked, I couldn't find anything...until I heard that voice again.

Fascinating. You are stronger than I expected, after all.

Oh great, this voice again. Why can't these people leave us alone for two minutes? I looked around again for the source of the voice, but I still couldn't see anything.

Looks like I can't help it. Mortals can't be allowed to interfere with the Great Renewal.

I jumped a bit in shock, as it was much closer to us than the other voices. Having a quick thought, I looked above my head, and sure enough, in the one place I hadn't looked, I saw the source; one big, mean Landorus.

(Final Fantasy X, Seymour's Ambition)

"What's the Great Renewal?", I asked him, perplexed.
"The short memory span of your kind always surprises me", the genie said with a malicious smile. "Even if your ancestors sculpted the myth of the Great Renewal itself in the hallowed vaults within the Shrine of the Old Gods, none of you seems to remember it".
"Wait", Harold remarked. "So, these ruins... were once inhabited by humans?"
"In a time where humans occupied their right place in the order of the universe, yes", replied the genie. "Now, everything changed... but it will be remedied very soon. Mewtwo is just a means to a greater end. While you... you're just insignificant gnats who must be wiped out".
Before we could respond or try fighting him, he suddenly disappeared, as if he teleported himself away somehow. Before we could think much about it though, the earth started to tremble. Almost immediately after, a giant creature burst out from the lava. One I had never seen before.

"That would be a Groudon master."

"Oh for the love of...at least we don't have to worry about anything else."

My tempting of fate was soon answered though, as two Magmortars sprung out. I think fate hates me.

Round 1

Origin moves swiftly to grab the attention of one of the Magmortars, but unexpectedly Groudon roars mightily. Beneath him, the lava erupts several fiery boulders that rain on the raid squad. Shocked by the intense heat, Alurani immediately sprays water over the battered team, in order to soften the pain, but nevertheless the Magmortar that charges her packs quite the wallop. The same can be said for its sibling, as it chops the poor Stratagem in two. Coco wisely focuses on the team defenses as well, leaving to Cumulus and the other Grass-types the offense duty.

Despite the deep wounds, Origin rises to the challenge, helped by the team mate Sunflora. Meanwhile, Groudon tackles violently the Ludicolo, but Tango is not scared and retaliates without holding back. The same can be said of his team mates, although it's not easy for them to withstand the combined firepower of the two Magmortars. Luckily, as the squad's defenses start to build up, the incoming damage becomes more and more manageable. It's still too early to get comfortable, though, as Groudon places an ominous curse on Alurani, tainting her mind with insanity.

Round 2

Much to the team's surprise, Groudon shatters the barriers Coco just conjured, allowing the two Magmortars to strike against Pandora and Origin at full strength. Nevertheless, the squad manages to take out one of the Magmortars, and to severely weaken the other. However, Tango is starting to struggle under Groudon's insanely powerful attacks. Moreover, Sol falls prey to the same taint the team mate Necturna dispelled a moment before from Alurani.

"Brick Break is banned until further notice. Maxim, if you can catch me on IRC to plan the next part of our attack? At the moment the only thing I know for sure is that I want Ludicolo to have 2 Heals aimed at her, and that Strata needs to attack Magmortar again. Also considering that we probably want to get an active Grassy Terrain out asap to boost healing and damage on Groudon further. Just some general thoughts though..."

Much to my dismay, our protective screens were shattered, meaning the enemies were able to attack us at near full power!

"Blast it, Brick Break this time? Nobody carries that but me! Ugh, anyways, Cumulus, get on that Dispel, Pandora, give Ludicolo some healing, and Alurani...why don't we reveal that secret weapon of yours!"

Round 3

With a last ditch effort, the team takes out even the other Magmortar, while laying the bases for the following all-out attack on Groudon. But the land titan doesn't wait passively. Its attacks leave a huge dent in the unfortunate Tango, but his team mates come to his aid with a steady stream of heals. Nevertheless, the major challenge is still ahead, with the team starting to feel the strain of the battle, and Sol falling once more to the looming madness.

Round 4

Now that there are no more interferences, the team is free to go on a full-fledged offense against Groudon. The land titan keeps retaliating against Tango, but between the heals from Coco, and the nourishment it saps from its foe, the Ludicolo handles the blows with relative ease. The same can't be said for Groudon itself, but it remains to be seen for how long will the raid squad manage to dish out such a strong barrage of attacks. Especially when it has to deal with issues such as Sol falling once more into the depths of insanity.

"OK, this round went well - we only need to do 240 Damage per round at this point (Or, if we dedicate a round to chilling, 274), which I'm confident we can manage - especially with the way that last round went. After this round I do fear we're going to run into energy-related issues, so there's that to consider - even so, the offensive mons can eventually switch to Chill ~ Grass Knot - the 5 Grass Knots this round did a combined 203 damage, which is insane. I don't think we'll reset Gravity now - that did it's job wonderfully vs. the Magmortars, but I don't think it'll be needed here. My big concern is in two rounds, where we have to reset both Grassy Terrain and Water Sport, which I think actually gives us a great oppertunity to have everyone chill before we go back to attacking. My other concern is...."
