Wormadam's name

no, it wouldn't. Either a disambig page or redirecting to a specific Wormadam form I suppose.

If it's easy enough to do a disambiguation, then I'd just stick with the official names (PST). Best to use what's already been decided, and the names are easy enough to ID the different forms by IMO.

Don't know if this really makes a difference, since it's freaking Wormadam. Hahaha. But I like PIE. That's a good one :]

Trash works too.. PET?

I was unaware that Plant, Sandy, and Trash were actually official terms for them, so yeah, I support using those over whatever I suggested.

I would perfer

P-lant
M-mushy dirt
S-steel

Because PIE is an overated acronym. PMS is much better.

That's stupid. This isn't a joke topic. We've had like 4 people troll this shit, and I'm going to infract the hell out of anyone who continues to do so. Anyway, I think Plant/Sandy/Trash is going to happen.

Is there going to be a disambiguation page?

Maybe it's just me, but I think things would work best with one.

Official names aren't exactly "official". Even if they are official, we should take practicality into account. Officially, Arcanine is a "Legendary Pokemon". But, everyone knows that offical classification has nothing to do with the practical usage of the term "Legendary". I really hated the naming of Deoxys with "Fr, Lg, and E" forms. Everyone used the practical descriptions of "Attack Deoxys", "Speed Deoxys", and "Defense Deoxys". To have the site use a different name was really silly, considering that this site is focused on the Pokemon metagame, which is, by definition, outside the game and "unofficial".

Everyone knows how Wormadam will be referred in practical terms. It will be a reference to the non-Bug type -- Grass, Ground, and Steel. Do you honestly think anyone will ever refer the Steel Wormadam as "Wormadam-Trash"? Hell no. Same thing for the other cloak names, all of which are very cute and clever names, but will never make their way into common usage.

We all know that Wormadam, if it is ever discussed at all, will be discussed in terms of its non-Bug type. That WILL be the "name" used on Smogon -- on posts, messages, etc. You know it, I know it, everbody knows it. Now, the only thing to decide is if the site wants to list a name that is related to it's common name, or it's "official" name.

IMO, the common name is the only option that should be considered. But, it appears that I am in the minority.

So Doug, you advocate the current naming scheme?

I like the motivation behind the current naming scheme, but I agree with the OP that having a single "Wormadam" and two other "Wormadam-?" variants is confusing.

I don't understand the obsession with narrowing the three variations down to a single letter abbreviation. Unlike the real pokemon games, the name on this site can be as long as necessary. Why don't we just spell it out? Why screw around with all these ambiguous or obscure abbreviations and single letter nonsense. The words "Grass", "Ground", and "Steel" are intuitively obvious to anyone who has ever played pokemon. The words are not very long. Is everyone afraid they'll get carpal tunnel if they have to type more than a single letter after "Wormadam"?

I agree. Perhaps the Deoxys variants should be renamed to Deoxys-Attack/etc and put disambig pages/redirects for Deoxys-A/etc as well?
