I have a few thoughts about the Sept. Banlist:
Banned:
Substitoad: This is a very smart ban. It completely renders the Frog OTK useless, but affects other Frog decks not as much, like Froggy Monarchs.
Rescue Cat: This thing is finally banned. Ever since XX-Saber Darksoul came, Kitty became an instant Level 6 Synchro plus an X-Saber in your hand. Also Mine Mole was around in the OCG which might of contributed to it's ban
Heavy Storm: Huh? I don't really understand what this is about. Heavy is a staple in every single deck. Maybe it's to slow down the meta for a little bit. I just don't really know about this.
Brain Control: One of the best topdecks is now finally banned. Like Rescue Cat, Brain Control has been asking to be banned for a while, as it's splashable and pretty much turns the tide of a duel all of the time. So this wasn't really expected.
Limited:
Trishula: Not in the TCG yet, but this is a limit worthy card.
Infernity Launcher: Good, the Infernity OTK is now gone. Seriously, if you use the right cards, this thing can be a fucking +4, which is absolutely ridiculous. But it's now hopefully going to slow down Infernities.
Black Whirlwind: Seeing as Blackwings were dominating the OCG metagame, this doesn't surprise me at all. Usually it's a +1 or +2, but that's just enough to make BW mangle every little thing in their sights.
Monster Reborn: Hahahaha, man it feels like I'm being trolled by Konami. This is really odd, because there is usually only one of the 3 splashable revival cards (Premature Burial, Call of the Haunted, and Monster Reborn) that is unbanned. I think it's to replace Brain Control.
Dark Hole: This and Monster Reborn were two cards that I couldn't really see coming back, but here they are. I think that Konami is going with a more stronger back row and more monster destruction. I think is is for slowing down the pace of game.
Royal Oppression: This is a really big control card. Smack a massive monster on the field, activate Royal Oppression and watch your opponent squirm unless they have a Treeborn Frog in the grave or something. Blackwings mained this because they can easily dance around the effect with Shura or Vayu. I'm still pissed the this card can use it's effect when activated, but Appropriate can't.
Semi-Limited:
Chaos Sorcerer: What is a banlist without this guy moving. Seriously, Chaos Sorcerer bounces between limited and semi so much it make me laugh. It's a good card and I won't be surprised if the bastard gets limited again.
Snipe Hunter: Other than D.D. Crow, this guy is the bane of Stardust Dragon. This guy is like Brionac in roulette form. This poor guy sees pretty much no play anyways, so I'm indifferent of him being semi'd. I do see him in Fabled decks when the rest of them hit the TCG though
Mystical Space Typhoon: This is Konami apologizing for the banning of Heavy Storm. I usually use MST more than Heavy anyways, so I'm good with it.
Ojama Trio: I see Cactus Fighter OTK being a bit better. Like Snipe Hunter, this poor guy doesn't see much gameplay either. He does set up some pretty neat OTK's though.
Magic Cylinder: I already said that Snipe Hunter and Ojama Trio see almost no gameplay. This thing sees no gameplay at all unless you're playing against someone poor, stupid, or running a burn deck. This thing is pretty much useless and there are much better cards that are unlimited that can be used in it's place.
Unlimited:
Goblin Zombie: Zombies are still dead with Mezuki and Plague-Spreader Zombie limited, so this won't really upset the metagame much.
Cyber Dragon: Now CyDra OTK is now way more feasible as this, Zwei, and Proto are all unlimited. Also Machina Gadgets now are crying as their bane just got unlimited.
Treeborn Frog: Nobody runs 3 of them so this won't really change the meta.
Black Rose Dragon: Why hello Debris-Hime and SalvoDAD. Are you happy that you're going to be tournament worthy again? This is a good thing in my opinion as it will put more decks in the top tier. Plus there aren't many good LV 7 Synchros anyways.
United We Stand: Equips are only used in Power Tool decks or GigaVise so there won't really be any change here.
Royal Decree: Why was this was semi'd in the first place. I don't really see it played much unless it's in a massive beatdown deck or Lightsworns so nothing really will change as Lightsworns aren't like they used to be.
In conclusion, I think that this meta might become a bit more slower with the addition of mass monster destroyers like Dark Hole and Black Rose Dragon, and we will see some new decks like Scraps, Debris-Hime, and SalvoDAD appear in some top 16 lists.
