Other Metagame of the Month — Hidden Type

Heatran @ Leftovers
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 248 HP / 220 SpD / 40 Spe
Calm Nature
IVs: Add
- Stealth Rock / Protect
- Will-O-Wisp
- Roar / Earth Power
- Lava Plume / Magma Storm

Heatran is an incredibly common Pokémon because Flying removes two of its main weaknessses: Ground and Fighting. Heatran's already excellent resistances and an immunity to the ever common Ground-type allow it to take on most of the tier with ease. Of course this does mean Electric-type attacks give it trouble, but nonetheless Heatran serves as an excellent Pokémon that can fit on many teams.

Dragonite @ Lum Berry
Ability: Multiscale
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
IVs: Add
- Dragon Dance
- Dragon Claw
- Thunder Punch / Fire Punch / Extreme Speed
- Earthquake / Iron Head

Dragonite's newfound Steel typing allows it to take on Fairy-types with ease, and it doesn't mind Steel-type's weaknesses because Dragon/Flying already resists them. Dragon Dance, alongside impeccable coverage, allow it to set up on a large majority of the tier and sweep. Dragonite's bulk coupled with Multiscale gives it a large space to set up, and Steel's additional resistances make Dragonite incredibly easy to use. The moveslots are designed to beat what your team is weak to and are interchangable.

Other Metagame of the Month is a thread in which the users nominate and vote on metagames to be put on the official Pokémon Showdown! server as a temporary ladder for the entire month. Toward the end of each month, users nominate metagames for a couple of days. Afterwards, the users vote on the nominated metagames and the one with the highest number of votes wins. This thread is run by the OM Leadership team. Anyone is eligible to nominate, but your account must be one week old to vote.

Winning Metagame Featurette

Hidden Type has a simple premise but a ton of diversity. In order to "unlock" your Pokemon's hidden type, you just need to adjust its IVs (like you would for the move Hidden Power) to match the type you want to add. Looking for a Heatran that can evade Ground moves? Give it the appropriate IVs for Flying and voila! Heatran is now Fire/Steel/Flying. No more pesky x4 weakness to Ground!

This is Hidden Type's second OMotM win. Since its first, it has gained a solid following. Be sure to check out its new viability rankings as well!
