Introduction to Tournaments

Welcome to the Tournaments section of Smogon!

We welcome all players of different skill levels; new competitive battlers and seasoned professionals alike will find online tournaments at Smogon enjoyable. Playing in Smogon tournaments is a great way to develop your skill as a battler! After all, what is a better way to gain battling experience than playing against the best of the best?

We hold many styles of tournaments – singles tournaments, team tournaments, and just about everything else imaginable. Whatever style you enjoy playing, you are sure to find the Smogon tournament experience both challenging and fun!

Playing in Tournaments

Joining a tournament at Smogon is quick and simple. If sign-ups for a new tournament are open, feel free to post and register.

Some places you can check for open tournaments include: The Smogon Happenings thread, the Tournaments tab on Pokémon Showdown, and #tour-news in the Smogon Discord server.

Players joining a tournament are expected to be active and get their battles completed in a timely manner. Failure to do so holds up the tournament and creates a worse experience for other players, so please don't join a tournament if you can't commit to playing for its duration.

Official Tournaments

Smogon hosts ten official tournaments each year, seven individual and three team tournaments. These are the most difficult and prestigious tournaments the site has to offer, each awarding winners with a trophy to display on their forum profile.

For players who are masters of a single metagame, Smogon hosts a number of circuits, year-long series of tournaments that culminate in a seeded, single-elimination bracket between the sixteen top performers, awarding a ribbon for the winner that is displayed on their profile.
