[SET]
name: Lead Torterra (OU)
move 1: Stealth Rock
move 2: Earthquake
move 3: Leaf Storm
move 4: Rock Slide
item: Occa Berry
nature: Naughty
evs: 252 Atk / 220 SAtk / 36 SDef

Why this set deserves to be on-site:
-There isn't a lead set for Torterra yet and this one makes an effective one.
- Deals with the majority of OU leads quite well, showing that Torterra isn't UU material only.

Additional Comments:
- calcs can be found in this RMT.

Teammates and Counters:
- Heatran can come in on every attack used against Torterra and could even get a Flash Fire boost in.
- Stronge Ice moves can really hurt Torterra. His speed is also lackluster.

Sorry, but I really don't think this lead works particularly well. The issue is that it gives two turns to pretty much every single lead, with the notable exception of Swampert. Seriously - here is a list of matchups vs top 15 leads, not necessarily in order:

Azelf - Taunt + SR, or SR + Explosion and you might get SR up - best case scenario. DS Versions laugh at you.

Aerodactyl - Taunt + SR - what it's meant to do.

Metagross - SR + Explosion, or two meteor mashes.

Swampert - yay - good matchup. Unlikely to stay in.

Jirachi - reasonable matchup. Can 3HKO with Iron Head though, and might survive EQ.

Machamp - Ice punch OHKOes you.

Infernape - Can set up SR. If you choose to do the same you get 2HKOed by Fire Blast.

Tyranitar - decent matchup

Roserade - sleep powder - you lose.

Heatran - Good chance to survive EQ. Always sets up SR, and can explode if it survives. Specs OHKOes you.

Hippowdon - very good matchup, though it will likely get SR up regardless

Uxie - pretty awful matchup - it walls you pretty much and can do whatever it wants.

Smeargle - Spore

Gliscor - Leaf Storm misses a 2HKO. It taunts + SRs, and can heal up in your face.

Compare this to something like a Swampert, Heatran, Empoleon or Metagross of your own and this really doesn't seem too impressive (and Swampert is hugely overrated.) I also cannot imagine it having much utility beyond its lead matchup, given that its defenses aren't great with no investment, and its speed terrible. Even with mixed attacking, its not going to break many walls, given that it can't even beat a Blissey one to one.

Sorry.

Delko - any lead that doesn't set up SR should expect to KO the opponent without being hit. Torterra does not manage this. Take a look at something like Empoleon, a fantastic lead that is hardly used. It can set up SR on bulky leads, and will KO suicide leads without being hit or taunted thanks to Aqua Jet. Focus sash is the problem for this lead - it has to waste a whole turn breaking them.

Thanks for the feedback.

jc104, Torterra can actually win against most leads that set up SR (look at calcs), if he himself doesn't.

Depotar, I actually do mean Rock Slide. Seeing that the leads Stone Edge would normally be used against either have a Focus Sash or can take one anyway. Rock Slide has higher PP and accuracy and kills the same things Stone Edge would.
Oh and Stronge = Strong, not Strange.

There are already good leads in the OU tier that set up Stealth Rock, and Torterra seems like an inferior option to put on-site. As outlined above, Torterra looses to the majority of top leads in OU, for instance: Azelf gets his rocks up and OHKO you back with Explosion; Metagross 2HKOs you with MM while Torterra has to choose between causing some damage with EQ or setting up SR; both Starmie and Machamp score the OHKO on you with Ice Beam and Ice Punch respectively; Bronzong laughs at you, and Roserade/Smeargle make Torterra rather useless by putting it to sleep.

I don't really see how this Pokemon can be a good lead in OU; it will almost always loose against the common leads of this tier, except Swampert and Hippowdon who might prefer to switch out instead. Moreover, Torterra has some chances of failing to set up his own Stealth Rock as well while trying to do something to the listed Pokemon in the first paragraph, and this is pretty mediocre in my opinion. I would agree with this set if what those calcs reflected were real opportunities to beat most of the peculiar leads in OU, not only a turn to cause some damage and wait for them to KO you back or such -- that's not business in any case. Sorry but I have to say no on this.

Well I guess you are right. Outside of the suprise factor this set is outclassed by several other leads.
It was worth the shot. This thread can be closed.
