Weather Wars- Brain Freeze in the Desert
The Background: As an exclusive Hail user, I love to pit my snowy beasts against other weather teams, particularly sand teams, which face me on even ground (no pun intended) overall. Also, sun teams have a natural advantage over my team, and I despise rain with a burning passion. Anyway, this particular battle wasn't really all that good, I don't think, but Hail is not well represented in the warstories section, so here is one of the better games I could find. As much as I'd love to bring to you an epic warstory full of weather changes, weather abuse, and all that good jazz... well this is different. You see, this is warstory of two weather teams fighting without weather. That's right. The weather starters don't show their ugly faces until the end, when the outcome is already decided. So, without further adieu...
The Battlers: In order of appearance... TEAM AMON AMARTH       Heatran/Starmie/Nidoqueen/Latias/Regice/Abomasnow TEAM KAISER       Deoxys-S/Scizor/Heatran/Genesect/Hippowdon/Excadrill Battle between [BWFL] Kaiser and Team Amon Amarth started! Comments in Italics. Tier: Dream World Variation: +13, -18 Rule: Rated Rule: Sleep Clause Rule: Species Clause Rule: Wifi Battle Looking at his team, Heatran seemed like a solid option. It handles all of his team except for Hippowdon (because Excadrill wouldn't have sand support on turn one). Furthermore, Genesect is a major pain to face, and I would rather not leave Abomasnow in on it. Team Amon Amarth sent out Heatran! [BWFL] Kaiser sent out Deoxys-S! The foe's Deoxys-S is exerting its Pressure! Fantastic. I usually fail pretty epically against lead Deoxys-S, so I play it safe. I figure that Deoxys-S never packs anything that can touch Heatran (if it packs any offensive moves at all), and his team has no Ground immunes, or even resists, so Earth Power is a solid option. Furthermore, it has the added bonus of nailing his own Heatran on the switch if he predicts a Fire attack. With Heatran gone, there is pretty much nothing on his team that could take my own Heatran's Fire attacks. For those who say “but wait, Air Balloon!”, yeah, I never see those used. On anything. Start of turn 1 The foe's Deoxys-S used Stealth Rock! Pointed stones float in the air around Team Amon Amarth's team! Heatran used Earth Power! The foe's Deoxys-S lost 48% of its health! All goes according to plan, but a switch to Heatran would've been beautiful. Start of turn 2 The foe's Deoxys-S used Superpower! It's super effective! Heatran lost 244 HP! (75% of its health) The foe's Deoxys-S's Attack fell! The foe's Deoxys-S's Defense fell! Heatran used Earth Power! The foe's Deoxys-S lost 48% of its health! The foe's Deoxys-S's Sp. Def. Fell! See, and this is why I fail against lead Deoxys-S. They're so bloody versatile and I always forget just how diverse their attacking movepool is. Deoxys is at a measly 4% health, but Heatran doesn't outspeed it and cannot afford to take another hit like that, especially not when it is that threatening to the rest of his team. I don't think he'll pack more than one attacking move on Deoxys, so Starmie can come in on a resisted -1 Superpower, and force it out. Depending on how much it does, I can either Recover off the damage or Spin his rocks away. Start of turn 3 Team Amon Amarth called Heatran back! Team Amon Amarth sent out Starmie! Pointed stones dug into Starmie! The foe's Deoxys-S used Superpower! It's not very effective... A critical hit! Starmie lost 136 HP! (51% of its health) The foe's Deoxys-S's Attack fell! The foe's Deoxys-S's Defense fell! Starmie restored a little HP using its Leftovers! … joy. Recover it is. Start of turn 4 [BWFL] Kaiser called Deoxys-S back! [BWFL] Kaiser sent out Scizor! Starmie used Recover! Starmie regained health! Starmie restored a little HP using its Leftovers! Not interested in taking a STAB U-Turn, I'll send in Nidoqueen to take that hit and maybe set up some hazards of my own. There really isn't much Scizor can do to Nidoqueen, who packs a special little surprise for Scizor and Genesect. Start of turn 5 Team Amon Amarth called Starmie back! Team Amon Amarth sent out Nidoqueen! Pointed stones dug into Nidoqueen! The foe's Scizor used Bug Bite! It's not very effective... Nidoqueen lost 86 HP! (22% of its health) The foe's Scizor is hurt by its Life Orb! Nidoqueen restored a little HP using its Leftovers! Team Amon Amarth: Hmm Team Amon Amarth: I wonder if Scizor can take that.. Hmm Bug Bite is new. It's probably not Banded then. The bit of commentary up there is an attempt at messing with my opponents mind, which I just love to do. The idea is to make them panic and switch out, giving me a free turn to set up Rocks. It's not unknown that Nidoking has a massive movepool and so Nidoqueen would as well. Start of turn 6 The foe's Scizor used Bullet Punch! Nidoqueen lost 129 HP! (33% of its health) The foe's Scizor is hurt by its Life Orb! Nidoqueen used Stealth Rock! Pointed stones float in the air around [BWFL] Kaiser's team! Nidoqueen restored a little HP using its Leftovers! [BWFL] Kaiser: prob not Team Amon Amarth: ouch That didn't go as planned. Still, Nidoqueen takes the hit like a cha... er anyways, I play like he called my bluff out to ensure he leaves Scizor in and secure the KO. Start of turn 7 The foe's Scizor used Bullet Punch! Nidoqueen lost 112 HP! (29% of its health) The foe's Scizor is hurt by its Life Orb! Nidoqueen used Flamethrower! It's super effective! Team Amon Amarth: that did moer Team Amon Amarth: than I thought The foe's Scizor lost 70% of its health! The foe's Scizor fainted! Nidoqueen restored a little HP using its Leftovers! [BWFL] Kaiser sent out Heatran! Pointed stones dug into the foe's Heatran! In some regions fried bugs are considered a delicacy. Et tu, Unova? Nidoqueen can't take hits from Heatran, and I want it alive to drop Toxic Spikes later on. The incoming Ground or even Fire attack can be taken by Latias quite neatly, who can then bluff a Surf (even though Heatran completely walls the set). Start of turn 8 Team Amon Amarth called Nidoqueen back! Team Amon Amarth sent out Latias! Pointed stones dug into Latias! The foe's Heatran used Dragon Pulse! It's super effective! Latias lost 114 HP! (31% of its health) Oh ouch. He predicted that one quite nicely. Still, Latias's natural special bulk, plus a resist, plus Soul Dew allows it to take very little from even a SE hit. I'd still rather not take any more hits like that though. He seems confident in his Heatran's ability to beat Latis here, so I would presume it's either a SpD Tran or a ScarfTran. Time for the beast itself. Start of turn 9 Team Amon Amarth called Latias back! Team Amon Amarth sent out Regice! Pointed stones dug into Regice! The foe's Heatran used Dragon Pulse! Regice lost 57 HP! (15% of its health) Regice restored a little HP using its Leftovers! Ladies, gentlemen, and any alien species, meet Regice. Regice is the best Hail-abuser. Evar. I use a set of my own invention. Think the old Gen III Regice and Gen IV Stallrein put in one nasty package. Regice@Leftovers Ice Body/Bold 252 HP/148 HP/8 Def/96 SpD/4 Spe ~Blizzard ~Thunderbolt ~Protect ~Substitute Works wonders. Stallrein 2.0. Unfortunately, Hail is not up so this thing will be significantly less effective. In hindsight I prolly should've tried to sneak Abomasnow in here somewhere, but pretty much his entire team can or does pack something that can OHKO it, and I'm not exactly keen on letting him get permanent Sandsteram up, especially with an Excadrill. I don't remember now if I had given my Starmie Hail yet, as a back up. Probably not. Start of turn 10 [BWFL] Kaiser called Heatran back! [BWFL] Kaiser sent out Genesect! Pointed stones dug into the foe's Genesect! The foe's Genesect's Download activates! The foe's Genesect's Attack rose! Regice used Substitute! Regice made a substitute! Regice restored a little HP using its Leftovers! And here comes Genesect. There are a handful of Pokemon I have come to despise as a result of repeated poor/annoying experiences with them. Ranging from the silly, like Ambipom, to the understanding, like Excadrill. Of all these things I hate (BFMV reference lol), Genesect tops them all. It's speed, power, ability, movepool, and typing are all very well made for it's job. But guess what? The automatized prehistoric insect is no match for the beast that is Regice, even outside of hail. Time to swat this bug. Regice gets a sub up on the switch, which is a major advantage. His switch, isntead of using a Fire attack, pretty much confirms that this is a ScarfTran Start of turn 11 The foe's Genesect used Flamethrower! It's super effective! Regice's substitute faded! The foe's Genesect is hurt by its Life Orb! Regice used Thunderbolt! The foe's Genesect lost 26% of its health! Regice restored a little HP using its Leftovers! The Sub is broken, but between Rocks, Regice's Thunderbolt, and Life Orb damage, Genesect is left with about 60% of it's health, not bad. Start of turn 12 Regice used Protect! Regice protected itself! The foe's Genesect used Flamethrower! Regice protected itself! Regice restored a little HP using its Leftovers! Protect will troll/scout. In hindsight, this was a pretty terrible move, because he could've gotten a free Hippowdon switch here. Start of turn 13 The foe's Genesect used Rock Polish! The foe's Genesect's Speed sharply rose! Regice used Substitute! Regice made a substitute! Regice restored a little HP using its Leftovers! While Rock Polish Genesect is certainly a surprise to me (I don't even get why Genesect gets it), the extra speed won't do it much good if it can't beat Regice. Maybe he was expecting a switch, but he's sorely mistaken. The sub will probably cost less health than his Flamethrower will. Start of turn 14 The foe's Genesect used Flamethrower! It's super effective! Regice's substitute faded! The foe's Genesect is hurt by its Life Orb! Regice used Thunderbolt! The foe's Genesect lost 25% of its health! Regice restored a little HP using its Leftovers! Another 35% health off Genesect, and with less than a quarter of it's health left, Gensect has one turn left to live. Start of turn 15 Regice used Protect! Regice protected itself! The foe's Genesect used Flamethrower! Regice protected itself! Regice restored a little HP using its Leftovers! Sorry folks, couldn't resist. Free health anyway. Start of turn 16 The foe's Genesect used Flamethrower! It's super effective! Regice lost 162 HP! (44% of its health) The foe's Genesect is hurt by its Life Orb! Regice used Thunderbolt! A critical hit! The foe's Genesect lost 6% of its health! The foe's Genesect fainted! That hurt more than I thought it would, but still, that's a testament to how bulky Regice is. The crit was unnecessary but still satisfying on something as annoying as Genesect. Another fried insect for the market. Regice restored a little HP using its Leftovers! [BWFL] Kaiser sent out Deoxys-S! Pointed stones dug into the foe's Deoxys-S! The foe's Deoxys-S fainted! Deoxys comes in only to be impaled upon a bunch of pointy pebbles. It too falls. [BWFL] Kaiser sent out Heatran! Pointed stones dug into the foe's Heatran! Ah, Heatran. My Regice set has survived Fire Blasts from Chandelure before, but it is not condition to take one now. Protect will net it some extra recovery and scout his option. Start of turn 17 Regice used Protect! Regice protected itself! The foe's Heatran used Fire Blast! The attack of the foe's Heatran missed! Regice restored a little HP using its Leftovers! So he's locked into a Fire attack. This couldn't be any better. Start of turn 18 Team Amon Amarth called Regice back! Team Amon Amarth sent out Heatran! Pointed stones dug into Heatran! The foe's Heatran used Fire Blast! Heatran's Flash Fire raised the power of its Fire-type moves! Team Amon Amarth: ^.^ Oh, yes. Now my Heatran is at +1 SpA and +1 Speed, between Scarf and Flash Fire. He has to switch, being unable to touch me. So guess what? Heatran gets a free Flamethrower on any of his pokes, and none of them bar his Heatran, who is switching can take it. Start of turn 19 [BWFL] Kaiser called Heatran back! [BWFL] Kaiser sent out Hippowdon! Pointed stones dug into the foe's Hippowdon! The foe's Hippowdon's Sand Stream whipped up a sandstorm! Heatran used Flamethrower! The foe's Hippowdon lost 84% of its health! The sandstorm rages! The foe's Hippowdon restored a little HP using its Leftovers! [BWFL] Kaiser: you def won Now this, this is where that cannon fodder Deoxys would've come in handy. He then could've switched his Heatran back in and go for a speed tie or get his own Flash Fire boost and force me out. But instead, Hippowdon is as good as dead. Logically, he'll switch his Heatran back to take the Fire attack, so I'll bring in Abomasnow to put my weather up. I don't quite fancy an Excadrill on Sand Rush (sounds like a drug XD). Start of turn 20 Team Amon Amarth called Heatran back! Team Amon Amarth sent out Abomasnow! Pointed stones dug into Abomasnow! Abomasnow's Snow Warning whipped up a hailstorm! The foe's Hippowdon used Earthquake! It's not very effective... Abomasnow lost 78 HP! (24% of its health) Hail continues to fall! The foe's Hippowdon is buffeted by the hail! Abomasnow restored a little HP using its Leftovers! The foe's Hippowdon restored a little HP using its Leftovers! Team Amon Amarth: lol gg Bizarre. I guess he was expecting me to kill the Hippo so his mole-bag could come in for free. And this pretty much seals it. Hippowdon can't ever hope to beat Abomasnow. Start of turn 21 Abomasnow used Substitute! Abomasnow made a substitute! The foe's Hippowdon used Yawn! Abomasnow's substitute blocked Yawn! Hail continues to fall! The foe's Hippowdon is buffeted by the hail! Abomasnow restored a little HP using its Leftovers! The foe's Hippowdon restored a little HP using its Leftovers! That... was new. Instead of breaking my sub, I get it for free. Start of turn 22 Abomasnow used Giga Drain! It's super effective! The foe's Hippowdon lost 15% of its health! The foe's Hippowdon had its energy drained! The foe's Hippowdon fainted! Hail continues to fall! Abomasnow restored a little HP using its Leftovers! [BWFL] Kaiser sent out Heatran! Pointed stones dug into the foe's Heatran! Between Lefties and Giga Drain, Abomasnow is essentially at full health. Heatran rears its ugly head, but once again, I have a key advantage. Most people would switch, they couldn't hope to beat it. But, by staying in, I can see what move it picks to send in the appropriate counter, and at the same time, get a Leech Seed on it, for more residual damage. Start of turn 23 The foe's Heatran used Fire Blast! It's super effective! Abomasnow's substitute faded! Abomasnow used Leech Seed! The foe's Heatran was seeded! Hail continues to fall! The foe's Heatran is buffeted by the hail! The foe's Heatran's health is sapped by leech seed. Abomasnow restored a little HP using its Leftovers! So it's Fire. Well, Heatran it is. Start of turn 24 Team Amon Amarth called Abomasnow back! Team Amon Amarth sent out Heatran! Pointed stones dug into Heatran! Heatran fainted! The foe's Heatran used Fire Blast! But there was no target... Hail continues to fall! The foe's Heatran is buffeted by the hail! Team Amon Amarth: >.<> Team Amon Amarth sent out Starmie! Pointed stones dug into Starmie! Forgot about Rocks. That sucks. Ah well, Starmie it is. Start of turn 25 The foe's Heatran used Fire Blast! It's not very effective... Starmie lost 130 HP! (49% of its health) Starmie used Rapid Spin! It's not very effective... The foe's Heatran lost 1% of its health! Starmie blew away Stealth Rock! Hail continues to fall! The foe's Heatran is buffeted by the hail! Starmie is buffeted by the hail! The foe's Heatran's health is sapped by leech seed. Starmie restored a little HP using its Leftovers! Between Hail and Leech Seed his Heatran can simply be out-stalled, so his mole will face a full health Starmie in the Hail. May as well spin those rocks away. If only to avenge Heatran. Start of turn 26 The foe's Heatran used Fire Blast! It's not very effective... Starmie lost 129 HP! (49% of its health) Starmie used Recover! Starmie regained health! Hail continues to fall! The foe's Heatran is buffeted by the hail! Starmie is buffeted by the hail! The foe's Heatran's health is sapped by leech seed. The foe's Heatran fainted! Starmie restored a little HP using its Leftovers! [BWFL] Kaiser sent out Excadrill! Pointed stones dug into the foe's Excadrill! The foe's Excadrill is floating on a balloon! Lesson learned? uh.... yeah I got nothing. Anyway, Heatran topples, leaving a single mole. Start of turn 27 Starmie used Surf! It's super effective! Team Amon Amarth: gg The foe's Excadrill lost 96% of its health! The foe's Excadrill fainted! Excadrill didn't have a chance. I believe that would be a 5-0, in the process taking out two of my most hated enemies. And that, is endex. Team Amon Amarth won the battle! Team Amon Amarth: You chose to stand and fight, and died with dignity [BWFL] Kaiser: I have the data i need [BWFL] Kaiser: gg As our ending lines roll, and the battle dies down, so too, does this warstory. Rate away, and I look forward to putting up another warstory, with a better battle and formatting and whatever else can be improved, thanks for reading :) Edit: Images up I'd like to thank everyone for their help on the pictures :)

Not the best battle... the opp sacrificed Hippo, while the best strat, IMO, would be abusing Abomas' SR weakness and Hippo great bulk + recovering. Bringing Hippo sooner would also mean you wouldnt have as much free heal as you did with protect abusing...

I didn't actually notice the lack of pictures until the end. Either way, a very well written warstory. Not the best of battles, but still showed how hail can be successfully used OU. Kudos for regice (the best regi imo). Commentary was also pretty good. Overall 8.5/10

The lack of pictures didn't hurt it that bad. The battle was not the best, but for not repeatedly restating what happened the turn before I'm giving you a 9.5/10.
You are extremely talented at writing them, just make sure you find a better battle in the future. |

I don't mind the lack of pictures, as it encourages you to actually read and pay attention to what's happening. Also, props for the idea of Hail on Starmie, I'll have to remember that when I use it on a hail team.
Anyways, it was good overall. To below: I'd advise using pictures, it's just that it's not bad without them.

So wait, don't use pictures? A variation of this team had some pretty good battles against some rain teams back when it was up at the higher end of the DW ladder, but I didn't save any of those logs and it has since plummeted >.< Hopefully I'll have another warstory ready by this Saturday before I leave for camp, is there anything in particular y'all would like to see? |

You made it work without them, but adding them would be a huge plus. Also, if you post a long story (i.e. exceed the 100 images per page rule) you can split it into multiple posts.

The battle was alright and I liked your commentary. In the future I would add sprites though, and pick a battle that was a little closer. You weren't really ever in danger of losing this battle, and you had momentum almost the entire time.
I'll give it a solid 7/10 |

The battle was ok, it just never really felt that exciting. You seemed like you were pretty much in control. Not having sprites doesn't bother me since there weren't nicknames.
I will say that Regice was pretty cool, though. |

I thought it was fine, like a few people have already said, this battle was pretty much in your favour. I did love the part where Regice, a Pokemon that is seldom seen, without abusing Ice Body, take down GENESECT. I guess that in DW, Regice is Walrein, with better coverage, and great special bulk (80/100/200), only costing the Water-type. Next time, just try and get a closer match, close calls make a warstory more entertaining. Good job, and I hope you make more.

Also, I have a log in which a Choice Specs Deliberd scored two KOs... but the guy wasn't very good XD Still worth it?

Also curious: Did you mean to use normal Deoxys images for Speed Deoxys? Overal it was only decent.

Same as everyone else said, just one nitpick. I dont think soul dew is released yet. If you used it on Latias, then, uh-oh, SOUL DEW LATIOS! which is broken

Great warstory, while this wasn't the most exciting battle it demonstrated your writing and battling skills very well. 9.5/10

The Deoxys sprite was 'cos I the site I used only had Normal Deoxys. And for the guy who is complaining about Soul Dew Latias, cut me some slack. I'm using not 1, but 3 UU pokes in OU, whereas most of the teams I've faced use 5 standards + Soul Dew Lati@s. "Everyone else is using it" isn't a great excuse, I know, but it makes this team work, and it's not worse than the opposition XD |

The correct spread is 252 HP, 148 Def, 8 Sp.At, 96 Sp.Def, 4 Speed. Anyway, nicely done 9.5 of 10 and a Luvdisc.
Edit: Come to think of it, Light Ball hasn't been released yet either, what with the ideal candidate, Singing Pikachu, not carrying it. (She does have Lightningrod Ability, however...)

the opponent letting his scizor die for nothing dumb - you pretty much overpredicted against a pretty bad opponent - the match would have been more interesting had your opponent actually switched in heatran more often against your choice-locked heatran (as he should have..)
