Clamperl (Analysis)

The shit

QC: [Zebraiken] [Zurich] [tennisace]
GP: [Shame That] [November Blue]

[Overview]

Tremble in fear as an entity rises from the deep, a mythical, all-powerful, unstoppable being of unspeakable strength and power. Bow down before He-who-must-not-be-named, or He shall smite you with all the power in the universe. Entire worlds are demolished with a single touch, teams and trainers alike vanquished with a single glare; beware, or He shall destroy you, your life, your loved ones, and anything that you ever hoped to be. All hail ... the one, the only, the mighty Clamperl!

[SET]
name: THE SHELL SMASH
move 1: Shell Smash
move 2: Surf
move 3: Ice Beam
move 4: Hidden Power Grass / Hidden Power Electric
item: DeepSeaTooth
nature: Timid
evs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

Shell Smash is this monstrous beast's boosting move of choice, raising His already dangerously high Special Attack to unfathomable levels. After a single boost, He reaches truly into the heavens, with a Special Attack stat of over 900. Should you be unfortunate enough to be hit by a single attack, you may never see the light of day again. Surf douses even the most powerful of opponents, drenching them with a cataclysmic oceanic wave, riddled with the sight of their imminent defeat. Should the enemy survive this most powerful of onslaughts, Clamperl shall blast any Grass- and Dragon-types foolishly thinking that they can overcome Surf with a freezing Ice Beam that is sure to stop them in their tracks. Clamperl is all-knowing, all-seeing, and all-powerful. No enemy can escape the wrath of Clamperl. Should the enemy resist both attacks, Clamperl shall draw from deep within His Self, His secret, hidden, inner power, which hits any Water-type that dares stand against His other attacks. Proceed with caution, and don't hesitate to retreat, or the unrestrained power of Clamperl shall overcome and annihilate your very soul.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

The key to Clamperl's God-like power is none other than the revered item: DeepSeaTooth. When Clamperl holds this mystical item, His Special Attack is doubled. No other item is worthy of being held by the righteous Clamperl, and would serve no purpose. Despite Clamperl's limited choice of attacks, His power more than makes up for it by simply breaking through anything that dares cross His path. Additionally, Clamperl can utilize His abilities; one which prevents any trickery by the opponent, should they try to critically hit Him, and another, which boosts Clamperl's lightning-fast Speed should the opponent try to use a Dark-, Bug-, or Ghost-type attack. On top of all of this, regardless of His destructive power, He is, and always should be, of a Timid nature in order to greatly enhance His Speed. The EV spread should require no explaining to the simple folk that bask in the glory of Clamperl.

Even though Clamperl possesses such strength, He does require the help of His inferiors in order to be as successful as possible. Slaves that can set up the wondrous walls that are Reflect and Light Screen are extremely important for Clamperl to be able to smash His outer shell and release the pure power within. Gardevoir is the prime example, as it can sacrifice itself for Clamperl by using Memento, while rendering the opponent helpless to attack in addition to setting up those amazing protective dual screens. Another excellent servant is Wynaut, who is able to trap any Choice Scarf users that are faster than Clamperl by mischievous means, and destroy them with the appropriate move. Clamperl is then free to wreak havoc on the opponents that dare defy His mighty wrath.

[Other Options]

There are virtually no other options Clamperl has other than being the most amazing creation to have ever existed in the history of Pokemon. However, should you choose another hard and forsaken route, you may end up wishing you hadn't in the first place. The strategy of Trick Room works well with the proper slave support and correct EV and nature adjustments, but is nothing more than a hopeful yet futile attempt. If you don't choose to abuse Clamperl's overpowered Shell Smash, you have indeed gone down the incorrect path.

[Checks and Counters]

Almost nothing can withstand the almighty Clamperl's devastating assaults, and those that survive one hit will never survive another. The crafty Jynx may serve as a temporary check, as its Dry Skin ability and Ice typing allow it to resist two of Clamperl's most powerful assaults, and retaliate with a powerful Psychic force. Other than that, however, only priority can even hope to stop Clamperl's rampage—even then, it may not be enough to overcome the most powerful entity in the history of Pokemon existence.

Hidden Power IVs are done like this: go into PO and drop Speed down to 2. Then select the type you want. It will auto give you a seventy base power HP cause 64 is weak. Lemme fetch them for you real quick. :P

Why isn't Shell Smash the main option on Clamperl? Outspeeding Scolipede means you outspeed a majority of the tier, which is really good. Clamperl isn't surviving a hit at all so don't worry about the defense drops. The AC should be a Trick Room spread since TR requires more setup/team support.

Agreed. Pulling off a Shell Smash (with Block + Yawn, dual screen, or Wynaut support) means Clamperl receives an equivalent of +4 in each of its attacking stats, and outspeeding that much means it's an actual serious threat, even though Scarf Pokemon exist. It's asking to be a main set.

The TR set shouldn't be in the AC of what's primarily a speed-boosting sweeper. The sets should either be split or it should just be in OO.

Just a few minor errors, and you forgot to mention Zeus as a counter.
