Juicy Art

Current Project:Landorus Therian.

Current Stage:

Process of making the artwork:

Original: Lineart

Edit:

WIP 2: Think I'm probably gonna make this my biggest project to date, I was gonna go make it for the FB cover photo but I doubt I'll make the deadline, oh well. Was also thinking of turning it into a story board to show how I construct an image. I know some of the colours run outside the lineart but I just layed down the base colours to start with, and I'm gonna experiment with ditching the lineart before the piece is complete, just using it as a template atm.

Edit

WIP 3: SO now I've taken out the lineart and polished up the edges of the image, still unsure what I'm going to do for a background, if I even do one. Also filled in the last splashes of block colours. I'm going with a semi-realistic look for this picture, and I imagine a real Landorus to have mottled fur, not quite sure what I'll do about the red patches yet. So yeah, I've just laid down some colours with an airbrush and smudged them to the same effect. Down the right you can see my current palette which will probably quadruple in size by the end. Also decided I'll change the light source to be above and infront of Landorus.

Edit:

WIP 4: Finished covering the body in rough patterns on which I plan to try and paint a furry texture, although depending on how difficult and tedious that turns out to be I may not. No shading on the lower forearm because clouds need to be added later. Also, I've tried to work in those magenta hues on the arms to fit the appropriate places from the Sugimori art. Also, I laid down a really rough light source just to help me when I'm drawing. I don't plan for it to stay like that for the final picture.

Edit:

WIP 5: Ok, so now I've started adding the furry texture to the whole body of Landorus, I'm just working my way up the left arm now. I've also tweaked some of the edges mainly around the head and added some basic detail to the eye - proving really hard to get that eye-shine right.

Edit:

WIP 6: Latest Update on Landorus T: Ok, so now the fury texture across the body is pretty much complete. I've also laid down some pretty rudimentary lighting across the head crest and 'beak' which I've started to develop a bit more. i really want to get the texture right - I kind of picture it as an ivory material - but I'm really struggling to get it right, so if anyone has any ideas- help would be much appreciated. Also, probably most noticeable is the addition of the clouds!
Still yet to begin any work on the tail...

That looks awesome man, but one suggestion. Make sure that you keep the picture clean. I notice a few different coloured spots here and there, so if you got rid of those, I think it would make the picture much more cleaner and better looking.

However, that's the only critique I can think of thus far. Especially since you're just mousing it. Nice!

This looks pretty cool, but you need 3 pieces of art to start a thread.

Let me know when you have some more stuff ready to put in, and I'll unlock this.

Thats a great piece broski! You should enter it into the Monthly Art Contest going on right now. The theme for this month is summer, so it fits perfectly! Hurry though, as the entry period is about to close!

Did it Nov.
Cheers guys.

Yeah Eagle I'll take a few requests now and then, I'm off on holiday for a week tommorow but I'll start on yours when I get back.

New Pic: My favourite mon.

Munchlax learned firepunch!
I know the move is pretty irrelevant but I wanted to try some flame lighting

Compared to the grumpig that you did before (no offense or anything like that) this is a vast improvement! The lighting is very impressive, and I usually find myself having a hard time trying to find proper lighting and shadows. I also have a hard time doing special effects like fire or water, but you did a pretty nice job at it right here.

The lack of lineart is interesting too, as your edges are incredibly smooth, and don't require the lineart. The dark background works perfectly with the fire and munchlaxes generally light colours.

Perhaps the only thing I would suggest is to give more emotion to his face. He seems to just be blankly staring at the fire on his fist. Unless that was what you were going for, like him having no reaction to the fact this his arm is aflame. But maybe an emotion like surprise or grinning? Just a thought for future references. But keep up the great work Juicy Fruit!

BTW, what art program do you perhaps use?

I love your art style and that fire punch munchlax is so awesome, great lightning and shadowing imo. Keep up the great work :)

I did try giving the emotion on his face, but then it just became a nightmare with lighting. Because the firelight is quite mellow, as soon as I opened his mouth or created some kind of raised brow, I couldnt figure out how the lighting should look. The mouth especially was horrific. In the end I decided to go for a kind of blank fascination look.

Aha, well Grumpig was a quick request I did to get my thread active again no offence Eagle4 so I didn't put much effort into it.

With the lineart, Munchlax is quite easy to create from shapes I can make without using a pen tool in photoshop, I'd never have been able to create this style for some like... Torterra, for example. That would require a draw shape, and I'm terrible with lineart to be honest. The dark background also means I can blend it a bit.

Another trick I use is to take the Sugimori art, blow it up huge and use the select tool to create a boundary of the shape of the pokemon, then I adjust and change the pose to suit.

I use photoshop cs5, although I'm not sure how long that'll hold up since my keygen is being a bitch.

Thanks for commenting coolbiz.

I'm open to any other requests atm, got time to fill.

Great stuff man, I'm loving the Rasta.
It looks a bit cheap to just c+p some other body onto it though, makes the shading style look irregular.

No offence taken, but since you say that, I only said it was fantastic so I didn't 't offend you. Karma has been restored.

You keep getting better!
I'd love to see a Relicanth (but if you don't wanna do that I can always request a Sawsbuck :D)

Anyway, love the work keep it up!

Lax trying to re-create that famous scene from 'Schindler's List'.

Here's the comic strip I drew it for in the battle free-for-all.

I'll try and get those requests when I can!
