Reserving Escavalier
Hard Check

Escavalier @ Assault Vest
Ability: Overcoat
EVs: 248 HP / 176 Atk / 84 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Megahorn
- Iron Head
- Pursuit
- Knock Off / Drill Run

Definitely one of the most reliable switch-ins for this. Megahorn has a decent chance to OHKO Tangrowth, and is a guaranteed OHKO after rocks. Overcoat means it doesn't care about Sleep Powder at all while Leaf Storm is x4 resisted and does absolutely nothing. Focus Blast has a 72.2% chance to 3HKO, however when you factor in its accuracy it's actually only a 24.7646% chance. However, one move it would have to watch out for would be HP Fire, as it easily 2HKOs.

176+ Atk Escavalier Megahorn vs. 132 HP / 0 Def Tangrowth: 348-410 (93 - 109.6%) -- 56.3% chance to OHKO -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock
252+ SpA Life Orb Tangrowth Leaf Storm vs. 248 HP / 0 SpD Assault Vest Escavalier: 43-51 (12.5 - 14.8%) -- possible 7HKO
252+ SpA Life Orb Tangrowth Focus Blast vs. 248 HP / 0 SpD Assault Vest Escavalier: 107-126 (31.1 - 36.7%) -- 72.2% chance to 3HKO -- guaranteed 3HKO after Stealth Rock
252+ SpA Life Orb Tangrowth Hidden Power Fire vs. 248 HP / 0 SpD Assault Vest Escavalier: 213-255 (62 - 74.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Glalie @ Glalitite
Ability: Refrigerate
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpA / 252 Spe
Naive Nature
- Double-Edge
- Freeze-Dry
- Earthquake
- Ice Shard

Thanks to Mega Glalie's respectable base attack, and ice STAB after Refrigerate, it is able to blow away Tangrowth with a boosted Double-Edge. Cannot switch into any of its attacks though, so don't send this in on tang.

252 Atk Refrigerate Mega Glalie Double-Edge vs. 132 HP / 0 Def Tangrowth: 398-470 (106.4 - 125.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Who needs Moltres when the clearly superior legendary bird pulls through as a hard check.

Articuno @ Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 248 HP / 140 SpD / 120 Spe
Calm Nature
- Freeze-Dry / Ice Beam
- Toxic
- Substitute
- Roost

Articuno doesn't care about Leaf Storm, Sludge Bomb, Giga Drain, or HP Ice, and Pressure helps to drain Leaf Storm and Focus Blast's PP. Tangrowth can only 2HKO Articuno if rocks are up and it lands 2 Focus Blasts in a row.

252+ SpA Life Orb Tangrowth Focus Blast vs. 248 HP / 140+ SpD Articuno: 110-131 (28.7 - 34.2%) -- 99.4% chance to 4HKO after Leftovers recovery

Freeze-Dry is generally more useful, but Ice Beam is an option to nab the OHKO after one round of LO recoil so you don't have to worry about dodging a blast.

Delphox (Check)

Delphox @ Life Orb
Ability: Blaze
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Calm Mind
- Fire Blast
- Psychic
- Grass Knot

Delphox is a very nice check to Tangrowth as it has a typing advantage against it. Delphox can easily switch in vs a predicted Giga Drain or Focus Blast, although, switching in vs Leaf Storm or Sludge Bomb can be a little annoying for Delphox as they both do above 50. Though, Delphox can OHKO Tangrowth with a single Fire Blast making Delphox a solid revenge killer and check to Tangrowth.

Sigilyph as a counter

Sigilyph @ Life Orb
Ability: Magic Guard
EVs: 252 HP / 80 SpD / 176 Spe
Timid Nature
- Roost
- Air Slash
- Calm Mind
- Heat Wave

Sigi isn't 2hko'd bar an hp ice. This spread takes less than 50% from a LO leaf storm so you can continually come in and counter it. Air Slash 1hko's tangrowth ez, and you can even set-up on it with calm mind. This spread also gets the jump on max speed hitmonlee.

Calcs:
252+ SpA Life Orb Tangrowth Leaf Storm vs. 252 HP / 80 SpD Sigilyph: 147-173 (42.2 - 49.7%)
252+ SpA Life Orb Tangrowth Sludge Bomb vs. 252 HP / 80 SpD Sigilyph: 136-161 (39 - 46.2%)
0 SpA Life Orb Sigilyph Air Slash vs. 132 HP / 0 SpD Tangrowth: 374-445 (100 - 118.9%)

Reserving Roselia

Roselia is a Hard Counter

Kissed by a Rose (Roselia) @ Eviolite
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 248 HP / 252 SpD / 8 Spe
Calm Nature
- Spikes
- Giga Drain
- Sludge Bomb
- Synthesis

Roselia can take any hit Tangrowth can throw at it and has a guaranteed OHKO with either SR or a layer of Spikes. It quadruple resists Leaf Storm, resists Focus Blast, and is neutral to Sludge Bomb. HP Ice is super effective, but doesn't even do 40%. Any damage done can be regained with Synthesis. Sleep Powder is useless against Roselia. With just 8 Speed investment, Roselia also out speeds Tangrowth.

0 SpA Roselia Sludge Bomb vs. 132 HP / 0 SpD Tangrowth: 338-398 (90.3 - 106.4%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock
0 SpA Roselia Sludge Bomb vs. 132 HP / 0 SpD Tangrowth: 338-398 (90.3 - 106.4%) -- 43.8% chance to OHKO

252+ SpA Life Orb Tangrowth Hidden Power Ice vs. 248 HP / 252+ SpD Eviolite Roselia: 94-112 (31 - 36.9%) -- 62.6% chance to 3HKO
252+ SpA Life Orb Tangrowth Sludge Bomb vs. 248 HP / 252+ SpD Eviolite Roselia: 70-83 (23.1 - 27.3%) -- 62.6% chance to 4HKO
252+ SpA Life Orb Tangrowth Focus Blast vs. 248 HP / 252+ SpD Eviolite Roselia: 45-55 (14.8 - 18.1%) -- possible 6HKO
252+ SpA Life Orb Tangrowth Leaf Storm vs. 248 HP / 252+ SpD Eviolite Roselia: 36-44 (11.8 - 14.5%) -- possible 7HKO

As a side note, Roselia is a great counter to the other Tangrowth sets as well. It out speeds and 2HKO's both the AV and and Defensive sets.

Vivillon as a hard check/counter

Vivillon @ Life Orb/ Sky Plate
Ability: Compundeyes
EVS: 252 SpA / 252 Spe / 4 Def
Timid Nature
-Quiver Dance
- Sleep Powder
-Hurricane
-Substitute / Energy Ball / Roost

Vivillon is 4x resistant to Leaf Storm, so it doesn't take much from it. It can set up on a -2 Tangrowth, either setting up a Substitute if it switches out or stays in or setting up Quiver Dances if you don't have Substitute. Sleep Powder doesn't affect Tangrowth, but it's nice to put another pokemon to sleep so you can set up and attempt to sweep. Tangrowth's Hidden Power Ice can hurt Vivillon, though, and Sleep Powder is never fun. But Vivillon is a pretty good Tangrowth hard check/ counter, and should be considered.

Here's some calcs.
252 SpA Vivillon Hurricane vs. 132 HP / 0 SpD Tangrowth: 486-572 (129.9 - 152.9%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252+ SpA Life Orb Tangrowth Hidden Power Ice vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Vivillon: 286-338 (95 - 112.2%) -- 68.8% chance to OHKO That's gonna kill after SR, so you gotta be careful..
252+ SpA Life Orb Tangrowth Hidden Power Ice vs. +1 0 HP / 4 SpD Vivillon: 192-229 (63.7 - 76%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
252+ SpA Life Orb Tangrowth Leaf Storm vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Vivillon: 116-136 (38.5 - 45.1%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
252+ SpA Life Orb Tangrowth Focus Blast vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Vivillon: 71-83 (23.5 - 27.5%) -- possible 5HKO after Leftovers recovery

hard check (and srsly ppl can we stop this reservation bs oo)

Garbodor @ Black Sludge / Rocky Helmet
Ability: Aftermath
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Def / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
- Gunk Shot
- Toxic Spikes
- Spikes
- Clear Smog / Seed Bomb

Specially Defensive Garbodor is a pretty solid set at the moment in my opinion and is also a nice answer to Pokemon such as Tangrowth. The best thing Tangrowth can do is Sleep Powder Garbodor on the switch, since Leaf Storm and Focus Blast do absolutely pitiful damage and Garbodor can set up entry hazards or just Gunk Shot for the 2HKO. I like Black Sludge over Rocky Helmet on this set since it isn't really that strong against physical attackers anyway but both are options. Clear Smog is nice to prevent stuff from setting up on you but Seed Bomb is nice vs Seismitoad.

252+ SpA Life Orb Tangrowth Leaf Storm vs. 248 HP / 252+ SpD Garbodor: 109-130 (30 - 35.8%) -- 40.6% chance to 3HKO
252+ SpA Life Orb Tangrowth Focus Blast vs. 248 HP / 252+ SpD Garbodor: 68-81 (18.7 - 22.3%) -- possible 5HKO
0 Atk Garbodor Gunk Shot vs. 132 HP / 0 Def Tangrowth: 204-242 (54.5 - 64.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Alright, another successful week! Thanks everyone for their contributions (People burned the check list in a couple of days, thats pretty impressive):

Counter: Sigilyph(ss234), Roselia(Ping_Pong_Along), Garbodor(galbia)
Hard Check: Articuno(aoemica), Vivillon(brandonbeast), Delphox(Level 56), Escavalier(Void), Meloetta(-kal-), Amoonguss(Esidisi★), Golbat(tehy)
Check: Mega Glalie(thecrystalonix)
I like how many people listed the lesser known checks/counters, loving that.

Victim of the next week goes to:

Flygon @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe

Flygon looks cute on that BW sprite, not gonna lie. Discuss!

Aromatisse (Hard Check)

Aromatisse @ Leftovers
Ability: Aroma Veil
EVs: 252 HP / 244 Def / 12 Spe
Bold Nature
- Wish
- Protect
- Moonblast
- Aromatherapy

Aromatisse is a solid check to Flygon as it has a great typing advantage against it. It can easily switch in against a predicted Fire Blast or Draco Meteor. Even if Flygon goes for Earth Power, it still won't be able to beat Aromatisse as Flygon can't 2HKO Aromatisse with Earth Power, while Aromatisse can 2HKO Flygon with Moon Blast, making Aromatisse a solid check to Flygon.

This looks so awesome.
Sneasel is a check to offensive Defog Flygon. Thanks to Ice Shard, Flygon is forced out by Sneasel due to it being 4x weak to Sneasel's ice STAB.

252 Atk Life Orb Sneasel Ice Shard vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Flygon: 333-395 (110.6 - 131.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO

But Sneasel can't switch in on Draco meteor or Fire Blast.

252 SpA Life Orb Flygon Draco Meteor vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Sneasel: 253-300 (100.7 - 119.5%)

252 SpA Life Orb Flygon Fire Blast vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Sneasel: 286-338 (113.9 - 134.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO

It's also 2HKOed by Earth Power. So, Sneasel may be a good check to Flygon, but it needs to be brung in safely in order to check Flygon reliably. Go Sneasel! A-Choo!

252 SpA Life Orb Flygon Fire Blast vs. 248 HP / 4 SpD Eviolite Togetic: 73-86 (23.3 - 27.4%) -- 61% chance to 3HKO after Stealth Rock

Piloswine @ Eviolite
Ability: Thick Fat
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 Def
Adamant Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Ice Shard
- Earthquake
- Icicle Crash

Thanks to Eviolite, Piloswine can tank most of Flygon's attacks. Thick Fat also mitigates the Damage taken from Fire Blast, so bonus points there. Piloswine can then proceed to OHKO with Ice Shard (It's a high chance roll, but Life Orb recoil guarantees the kill). Just make sure rocks aren't on Piloswine's side.

Fly -> Pilo
252 SpA Life Orb Flygon Fire Blast vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Eviolite Thick Fat Piloswine: 114-135 (28.2 - 33.4%) -- 0% chance to 3HKO

While not common in RU, Rotom-F is able to revenge kill Flygon that is not choice scarf, thanks to its Ice stab Blizzard. However, its a check because it should not switch in on Flyogon, as it gets heavily chunked by draco and dies to fire blast.
and blizzard can miss.

Cradily @ Leftovers
Ability: Storm Drain
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Rock Slide
- Recover
- Toxic

Due to Cradily's really high Special Defense, it can easily take any hit from Special Flygon and recover off any damage that it has taken from it. It needs to be careful for random Iron Tail variants tho. Apart from that, Cradily is a really solid counter as it can then proceed to stall it out with Toxic slowly but surely. Rock Slide would do negligible damage to Flygon, but any chip damage is great.

252 SpA Life Orb Flygon Draco Meteor vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Cradily: 138-164 (36.7 - 43.6%) -- possible 9HKO after Leftovers recovery

252 SpA Life Orb Flygon Earth Power vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Cradily: 95-113 (25.2 - 30%) -- 0.1% chance to 4HKO after Leftovers recovery

Gastrodon @ Leftovers
Ability: Storm Drain
EVs: 252 HP / 72 Def / 20 SpA / 164 SpD
Calm Nature
- Recover
- Scald
- Earth Power
- Ice Beam

Tank Gastrodon is a really effective counter against Offensive Defog Flygon and Houndoom, which will explain why my EVs are slightly optimised to handle Houndoom better, as I want to ensure effectiveness in the overall metagame with the sets I post and not only check just the pokemon in question, in this case, Offensive Defog Flygon. I went with enough SpA to OHKO Houndoom after Rocks while still being able to OHKO Flygon after rocks with Ice Beam, enough SpD to take <75% from +2 LO Dark Pulse, of course while still being able to handle Flygon, and threw the rest in defence for relatively decent bulk on both spectrums

20 SpA Gastrodon Earth Power vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Houndoom: 222-264 (76.2 - 90.7%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock
20 SpA Gastrodon Ice Beam vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Flygon: 296-352 (98.3 - 116.9%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock

Clefairy as a hard counter.

Ability: Magic Guard
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
- Soft-Boiled
- Moonblast
- Stealth Rock / Thunder Wave
- Knock Off / Healing Wish

Despite Clefairy's lame stats, it makes for a pretty solid counter to LO Flygon. The best that Flygon can do to Clefairy is a 4HKO, all the while it's taking LO damage. Meanwhile, Clefairy can 2HKO or Knock Off predicting a switch. Even if Flygon stays in, it loses LO. Between Magic Guard and Soft Boiled, it's not even worn down easily.

0 SpA Clefairy Moonblast vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Flygon: 164-194 (54.4 - 64.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252 SpA Life Orb Flygon Earth Power vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Eviolite Clefairy: 87-105 (25.2 - 30.5%) -- guaranteed 4HKO

Bronzong as a shaky counter/ very hard check

Raise your zongers

Bronzong @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Sassy Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Gyro Ball
- Earthquake
- Toxic

Run hp ice and occa berry just for flygon Bronzong is immune to earth power thanks to levitate and laughs at draco meteor thanks to it's resist and high special defense. It can hit flygon hard with gyro ball or just setup rocks after flygon defogs them away. If flygon has roost or iron tail it is helpless against the bell. Only threat flygon poses is with fire blast - he has a very small chance to 2hko with rocks, and will usually 3hko, whereas zong can 2hko with rocks and life orb. So flygon can win if he predicts your switch and hits all 3 fire blasts, but if zong comes in on any other move it comes out on top, especially draco meteor. Relevant calcs:

0 Atk Bronzong Gyro Ball (102 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Flygon: 120-142 (39.8 - 47.1%) -- 1.2% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock

SpD Alomomola as a Hard Counter:

Alomomola @ Leftovers
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 136 HP / 128 Def / 244 SpD
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Scald
- Toxic
- Wish
- Protect

252 SpA Life Orb Flygon Draco Meteor vs. 136 HP / 244+ SpD Alomomola: 230-270 (45.5 - 53.4%)

252 SpA Life Orb Flygon Earth Power vs. 136 HP / 244+ SpD Alomomola: 160-188 (31.6 - 37.2%)

252 SpA Life Orb Flygon Fire Blast vs. 136 HP / 244+ SpD Alomomola: 65-77 (12.8 - 15.2%)

Obviously Flygon can't 2HKO Alomomola, even with rocks down, and Wish->Protect->Regenerator will heal off all of the damage incurred by either Draco + Draco or Earth Power + Earth Power, so you won't get worn down in the long run, while the LO-wielding Flygon certainly will. Meanwhile, Alomomola easily defeats Flygon, as demonstrated in this calc:

0 SpA Alomomola TOXIC vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Flygon: 124-148 (41.1 - 49.1%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

unfortunately, it JUST misses out on the 2HKO, so you might need some SR support D:. But seriously, alomomola will easily stall out Flygon, and although it can't create much offensive momentum from the encounter, it can spread status, not care, and even use a Defog or Roost to queue up a fat wish for some down-on-their-luck teammate.

Fletch gets a boost? Quagsire doesn't care. Fletch Will-o-Wisps? Eh, Quagsire can Recover the damage off. Fletch attacks? There's only about a 30% chance of a 3HKO after rocks damage. Fletch recovers? No biggie since Quagsire does more damage than can be recovered.

Meanwhile, Quagsire can Toxic to wear it down or go straight for a Scald which is an easy 2HKO. If Quagsire isn't burned and Fletch Roosts, Earthquake will almost always OHKO.

0 SpA Quagsire Scald vs. 152 HP / 0 SpD Fletchinder: 204-242 (67.3 - 79.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
0 Atk Quagsire Earthquake vs. 152 HP / 4 Def Fletchinder: 302-356 (99.6 - 117.4%) -- 93.8% chance to OHKO
252+ Atk Fletchinder Acrobatics (110 BP) vs. 252 HP / 108+ Def Quagsire: 126-148 (31.9 - 37.5%) -- 30.6% chance to 3HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery

The only Fletch set that Quagsire does have to worry about is the rare Natural Gift Liechi Berry lure set. That one nearly OHKOes and makes it so that next turn it can finish of Quagsire with Acrobatics.
