OU Teambuilding Competition
Given by A Terrakion, who was given by Nog, which was previously approved by Subject 18 and Gary2346.

Hey everyone. This is the again revamped XY OU version of the Teambuilding Competition! I (CZ.) will be running and updating this thread weekly. Let me explain how it works briefly and then we can get started. It was run last generation by Remedy and George Eliot, then this gen by Subject 18, Gary2346, Nog and A Terrakion. I will be taking over responsibility. This is my first thread and I'm pretty excited to bring this to all of you.

Team building is a really important part of the game. It rewards creativity and intelligence, unlike actual battling which rewards luck and mindless offense; which is why I felt like the Overused forum could use a new team building game. Past CCAT threads are cool but they fall down in trying to get us to cooperate, basically. Therefore, I'm throwing cooperation out the window. Here's how it works.

Every round, I will be picking a core of two Pokémon or typings. Then you clever team builders go away and then come back with a completed team. Once entries are closed, the community will vote on which user's team was the most innovative and well put together, the winner gets the honour of having their name and entry immortalised in this original post, and then we move on to the next round. Hopefully we can also get some good discussion going during the process about the teams submitted and the core itself.

Rules

- Entry Submission: Okay, a team importable in HIDE tags coupled with a description of your team building process is the minimum here. Pictures are really helpful. Everyone must PM me the team they are wishing to submit and I must approve it before it can be posted, note that teams posted without an approval will be removed immediately. You may go back, redo and resend it as many times as you would like, but I will only approve if the team is at a high enough caliber for this thread.

- Disputes / Copying: Obviously, there is potential for disputes over copying or people making similar entries. In general, if your team entry has the same Pokémon and similar move sets to an earlier entry, it will be disqualified. If anyone tries to abuse this by reserving an early post in the thread for their entry, please bring it to my attention and they'll be disqualified.

- Discussion and Team Changes: One part of the process is to have discussion about the teams and the core. While I'd like to keep this from being a speedy RMT thread, suggestions of improvements to entered teams are allowed. In the interests of fairness though, I'd ask that any suggestions don't involve anything more major than move set changes, and that if you've already submitted a team you won't change the Pokémon in it. Basically, just be sure that you're happy with the team before you send it in.

- No Bandwagoning : Simple rule: try to not support someone simply because you recognised his nick or because he/she has a shiny trophy.

- Users who won a round will have their vote's value doubled.

Time for an example, and it just so happens to be our Round 9 winner, Tokyo Tom. Now, say the two Pokémon chosen are Mienshao and Charizard X. An entry should look like:
(Credit to Tokyo Tom)

This is a team I made originally for the Mawilite Suspect Ladder, revolving around Mienshao to scout items and beat common leads at the time (such as SashMamo, Breloom, SashChomp, or SR setters like Landorus-T and Ferro etc.), and Charizard-X which is probably the most broken Mega left in XY OU. HP Ice Mienshao and EQ Latios pushed significant damage on DD Zard-X's premier counters, Landorus-T and Heatran, opening the way for Zard-X to potentially sweep lategame. Additionally, the core of Mienshao / SpexKou / ScarfLando-T offered a fast VoltTurn chain that could easily break down the opponents checks with very little prediction and Stealth Rock support from one of the sturdiest SR setters in the game, Ferrothorn. The concept began as a fun team but the team did see some success as Ben Gay used it to peak #1 on the Mawilite Suspect Ladder, and was one of the teams he used to peak #1 more recently on the actual OU ladder, during the first cycle of the Smogon Ladder Tournament. Overall, a neat little offensive team focused on luring threats and keeping momentum to wear down the opponent, opening them up for almost any of the Pokemon to clean up lategame.

Now let's get on with Round 10!! The two Pokemon for this round will be:

Both of these Pokemon are huge offensive threats with great speed tiers, while complimenting each other nicely. Starmie being able to spin away Weavile's 25% Switch in damage thanks to Stealth Rocks. I know we used Starmie before, but that was paired with Goodra and was a more defensive style. With this core, you are free to go all out offensive! Both are pretty frail when ran offensively, so be careful for priority..

The fuck's a mega?
I started off with the given core. Weavile's set's standard LO, while Starmie is spinning w/ HP Fire. It was originally LO Analytic, but there was way too much LO spam towards the end and it helps Starmie avoid getting worn down. I decided to go the HO route since it was 1/3 of the way there already, and added Aerodactyl as a lead. I use Aerodactyl > Azelf because Aerodactyl can double as a way to beat the shit Scarf Terrakion beats if the team matchup looks shit. I added Celebi because having something that can take hits from Water types is mandatory nowadays, even on offense teams. NastyPass is fun af, but if you're a "fuck BP it's gey" type person Shadow Ball can work too to fuck with Lati@s. Scarf Terrakion checks a bunch of stuff, from Mega Pinsir to Talonflame to Charizard X. Finally, Fairies and certain Psychics were shaping up to be threats, so I added Gengar to fuck up Mew, Mega Gardevoir, and Clefable. I originally had Thunderbolt > Focus Blast to hit Greninja and MDos that think they're trickE, but Focus Blast does the same shit, albeit with less accuracy. It's still a fine option if you like accuracy > coverage and power though.

lemme get off my phone and onto a computer so I can type up a decent explanation. for the time being I'll summarize it as "ko as much shit as possible before dying of recoil." Sash loom for speed control and wrecking sand offense, mega mane for birdspam, clef for sr support as well as tanking/sweeping, lastly sharp beak sd talonflame to kill off what ain't already dead. Hp fire on starmie for luring ferro and scizor and the like, pursuit>knock off on vile to trap the latis and gengar and the like... will provide a better explaination asap (aka tomorrow mornong most likely)

Alright here we go. Starting off with the core sets: Weavile is weak to Stealth Rock, so having Rapid Spin on Starmie is pretty much essential (plus providing Rapid Spin support frees up room for other members in general). Starmie's other three moves are Hydro Pump and Psyshock for dem STAB Analytic anal thrashing capabilities and HP Fire because fuck Ferrothorn and fuck Scizor, while we're at it. Didn't put Knock Off on Weavile because none of the other team members really benefit from it, but it is a very usable (and strong) option over Low Kick if you think Breloom covers enough shit w/ Mach Punch. Pursuit is fucken sex for trapping Gengar and the Latis and the like tho. Low Kick is there for OHKOing Bishart and Tyranitar and hitting Ferrothorn + Heatran for solid damage on the switch.

Moving on. I, like dEnIsSsS, started out with Scarf Magnezone + Scarf Lando (as you can see in my initial aids Weavile + Starmie team here -> http://www.smogon.com/forums/threads/team-archive-by-ctc.3513518/page-17, but I soon found out that SD Talonflame wrecks that shit, and that my team was super weak to both Sand and Rain, which is some fucken bullshit teambuilding on my part if ya ask me. So I kept Mie + Weavile + Clef and went about figuring out what to do with the other three. I knew I needed Grass/Fighting coverage somewhere for bulky waters/sharp, and I noticed that even with Scarf Lando sand still wrecks that shit cuz after intimidate, LO Adamant Exca only needs a bit of prior damage to 2HKO Lando. I looked to Chesnaught b/c I fucken love Chesnaught, but literally nothing could more successfully kill momentum on my team (besides Mola or Chans or some shit), also I wanted something that could actually hit hard, and with Starmie providing that sexy-sexy Rapid Spin support I looked no further than Sash Breloom. Adamant Nature to OHKO Exca w/ Mach Punch, Rock Tomb (aka most spammable known move) for hitting burds nd shit (provided Sash is intact, which tbh isn't remotely hard to do) as well as forcing switches/providing great chances to set up Spore, Bullet Seed because fuck Suicune, fuck Quagsire, fuck Mega Gyara. Fuck yo waters. Moving on, Scarf Zone got replaced with Mega Manectric because A) Shit's faster, yo, and outspeeding Jolly Talonflame is a big fucken deal for this squadron; B) Doesn't kill momentum by getting choice locked into some ass move like Volt Switch; C) INTIMIDATEEEEE, which is great 90% of the time unless the opponent has a Bisharp (also why I scrapped Scarf Lando b/c LandT + Mega Mane get's fuckn destroyed by Sharp). But all this shit struggles w/ Mega Venusaur/stall in general so enter Sharp Beak SD Talonflame. In addition to being a sex late-game sweeper, this thing fucken destroys stall and offense alike (if you can set up), eliminating the need for a dedicated stallbreaker. Fuuuuck, it even 2HKOs Scarf Heatran after SR at +2. Shit's fucken A. I don't have replays as of now unfortunately, but if I can get some good ones I'll go ahead and stick 'em in here.

tl;dr vote for me or I'll fucking cut you (although I now have zero chance of winning b/c dEnIsSsS)

I'm pretty lazy/bad at laddering so I had WebBowser do my dirty work for me (ty<3), so here's a couple replays --

I decided to take advantage of the Rapid Spin support provided by Starmie and the Pursuit trapping support of Weavile to pair the core with Bulk Up + Taunt Talonflame, and Agility Mega Ampharos. Talonflame improves the team's matchup against stall, provides a win condition, breaks through Clefable and revenge kills Mega Heracross. Both Weavile and Starmie are weak to Talonflame, so I used Mega Ampharos to counter it. Celebi was used as the Stealth Rock setter to give a better matchup against Rain teams, in addition to its ability to Baton Pass Nasty Plot to either Starmie or Mega Ampharos. Scarfed Landorus-T was included to plug as many holes as possible, providing a secondary check to Talonflame + Mega Pinsir, a shaky check to Latios with Knock Off, a Mega Charizard-X check and so on.

I decided to go the HO route for obvious reasons. The Weavile set may look interesting, but when I thought about it, Ice Shard already does enough, and Knock Off can take care of the other Ice-weak mons (i.e. Lati@s). Manectric checks Ninja and can get a free switch-in on most priority users due to Intimidate, and can also act as a wincon if I wear the opponent down enough. Lando-T was an obvious choice after that, the two having obscene synergy, along with the fact that the double Intimidate can force out physical opponents pretty well, which HO teams really need in case something goes out of hand. I used to have Pivot Lando-T, but I was checked by a few things, as well as having no fighting coverage due to no Low Kick on Weavile. So, I replaced Pivot Lando-T for a Scarf Lando-T with Superpower, which seems to be relatively unexpected despite being in the analysis. This freed up the Stealth Rock spot, and since our hazard removal was a Spinner, that Deosharp 2.0 would work for the last 2 mons - I won't be able to remove Azelf's rocks, while Bisharp blocks opponents from Defogging (and takes care of Clefable, who's otherwise a real pain). Sharp also shares many checks/counters to Weavile, so they can wear them down for one another, opening one up for a sweep later on, which is why I gave Sharp SD.

The best part about this team is that it's easily customizable - you can change around Starmie's, Weavile's, Lando's, and Sharp's movesets easily to fit your liking.

Alright I don't normally do these kind of things but Josh is a frend and asked me to do it I did it n_n. I kinda wanted to make a hipster offense team since weavile n starmie are two decently hipster mons n_n. I felt that spike stacking h-o should be the route taken since weavile and starmie both benefit from mons taking a shit ton of entry hazard damage and hit like trucks n_n. I also felt that cud work since weavile has a shit ton offensive pressure to prevent garbage ass latis from trying to defog off it. So from there I added a wincon, as landorus therian because I not only need a exca check a secondary bird spam check but a mon that can freely come in onf scarf lando-t's and set up for free. DD landorus-therian essentially rapes balance and other offensive teams becuz the sheer amount of stuff it can set up on free is pretty fucking hilarious lol. After I needed a primary bird spam check but I also didnt want to give up on offensive prescence and since electric types are kinda boring and I assumed most people wud choose manectric-mega as theyre check i used the stronk af 4 attack mega aero. Mega aero is amazing it has such nice coverage and puts so much pressure on h-o teams with its fast pace providing a revenge killer on most mons such as gren and manec-mega, etc. Furthermore it provides pressure against stuff such as ferrothorn, ground types with its coverage while also basically shreking over bird spam hehe. Finally I brought a greninja cuz I felt the team needed a strong and fast attacker and greninja fits pretty decently well. Oh i also used pursuit weavile cuz fuck latis n also thunder starmie cuz fuck slowbros n azu switchins u_u. The team did pretty decent fucking over the players i brought it against Josh, tesung, n destiny device all got fucked over by it lol. Enjoy da team pretty fun shits on italian offense which is always fucking nice ~o3o~. O also starmie is really fucking chill cuz i dont gotta rely on shit defog and lose mah hazards ~o3o~

Sorta balanced, but leans a bit more to the offensive. Weavile's set is the standard LO 4 attacks set, which is actually pretty damn nice with Dark and Ice being good offensive types; this set's main job is to either punch holes early-game on forced switches or to clean up late game with its blazing Speed and priority Ice Shard. Starmie's set is a more defensive Reflect Type set, which makes it a decent check to things such as Keldeo and Heatran, which Weavile would otherwise have some trouble breaking past, and some other mons such as Bisharp, Tyranitar, Ferrothorn, and Scizor after using Reflect Type. It's also able to spin away entry hazards to reduce chip damage, fish for Scald burns, and absorb status. Scarf Keldeo was chosen to take care of most speedier Pokemon such as Greninja, +1 Mega Charizard X (which Weavile can pick off with Ice Shard if Keldeo goes down), and Scarf Landorus-T. Mega Manectric is nice for fast Volt Switches to scout stuff, kinda handles Azumarill and Talonflame with Intimidate and Electric STAB, and means that Thundurus can't chuck around its priority Thunder Waves and whatnot. Latias packs Psyshock to deal with Mega Venusaur and Keldeo, Thunderbolt for Skarmory, Mega Charizard Y, and Manaphy, etc etc Draco Meteor chunks something, blah blah blah. Healing Wish is primarily to give Weavile a second chance at sweeping if you've misplayed it earlier, or whatever becomes your win condition. Jirachi is a fantastic check to Mega Gardevoir, which otherwise does quite a number on this team. It's also there to set up rocks to break sashes and let Weavile clean up more efficiently, give a slow U-turn into something, and paraflinch stuff. ya sorry stall is rly annoying to this team at times, but eh my first submitted team's always gonna have holes ._.

I started the team giving offensive sets to both Starmie (with leftovers to make it last longer) and Weavile (LO with pursuit). Hippowdon was added to cover Flyingspam, fast scarfers, Bisharp, Sand Offense, Thundurus (Saves Zard from paralysis) , etc. and then I added Ferrothorn to deal with Azumarill, Gyarados and Rain Sweepers in general. Doublade was incorporated to the team to beat things like Hawlucha and mega wallbreakers. Finally, I added DD Zard-X to the team, as it is a very powerful set up sweeper and win condition that also helps me a bit, along with Weavile (tho it works only in some cases), if i´m facing an hp fire Greninja. After some testing, I switched Starmie´s set to Bulky Reflect Type, which gave it more longevity and helped it to support the team in a more efficient way.

This team has good coverage. Both physical(a.k.a Rotom-Wash) and special wall(a.k.a Golbat) and an unusual scarfed Keldeo. The mega Scizor is for getting rid of some pokemon like Clefable with a bullet punch or just for priority. Also, Starmie is a rapid spinner and if it faints, Golbat is backup to get rid of entry hazards. Brave bird on Golbat is just for damage when low enough and Keldeo runs Icy Wind and Hidden Power Fire for coverage and for other fast scarfed dragon pokemon like scarfed Garchomp or Flygon. It will make them switch out and that would be your chance for a safe switch-in. The Weavile also has priority to finish off lower-health Pokemon. Rotom-Wash is also a great physical wall with a Sitrus Berry. With it using Will-O-Wisp on physical attackers and confuse ray to confuse them and then Rotom-Wash keeps on attacking until they switch out or activate it's sitrus to keep attacking. Also threats like Charizard-Y when sent out the Rotom-Wash, it is good to switch it into the Golbat and Toxic it and keep roost stalling it until it faints because Charizard-Y is a big threat to this team. Weavile with knock off also gets rid of Psychic or Ghost walls and does a truck amount of damage. HP Electric on Keldeo gives coverage to some other Pokemon like Pelipper (Random Example), but you get the point.

Good Luck to the others!

Tough for me to pick between denis, epique, and talenheim but going to have to go with Talenhiem.

Nice to see this back up, gl CZ. Also horyzhnz has the best team in my opinion. Everything just seems to go together well each other and covers up some common threats.

This is difficult to decide, but I'm going to vote for sugarhigh, although there are some other strong teams here, each of which cover the shared weaknesses of Starmie + Weavile to differing degrees. The majority of the teams chose a setup sweeper, but the choice of Double Dance Landorus-T was both an excellent fit with the core, and was included on a team where your opponent could easily expect it to be either Defensive or Scarfed Landorus-T.
