Problem with MattJ's Worlds 09 Weavile!!!

From what I've read, I would feel completely comfortable using this Weavile. Seeing as Marriland will be at the event (barring Europe), there is no way you can be DQ'd. Considering that they have already let one person go through (and probably more, but one that triggered the device), it would be completely unfair for them to DQ you. Besides, it's not hacked. Just point it the OT was from WORLDS09, and you can pretty much explain everything from there. I think it's likely that someone going to Atlanta will be carrying this on their team and go through the hack check, in which case we will hopefully receive a final confirmation. o:

We are aware that the Weavile from the World Championships last year is throwing a false positive in the game checking software. I communicated this to the head referee at the Birmingham event, but apparently it was not done early enough to prevent your disqualification. We've updated the software to ensure that this does not occur again. I'm deeply sorry that you were wrongly disqualified from the event.

The event need more staff who actually know the game mechanics/RNG etc rather than people just hired for the weekend. Common practise to hiring people for a job, is that they have background knowledge of the job there actually doing!!!!! rather than perving on Kinneas
You have to realize - the staff for these events are hired through a staffing company that mainly do concerts, events, line control, etc. They are just hands to help run the event.

The only people who's job to be educated on this is the people they pay to fly out to these events (TPCi Staff, Marrilland,ETC) Everybody else get VERY basic knowledge about pokemon, and the rest is to escort winners/loosers, line controll, event set-up, etc. These people are not paid to know the game, they are paid to help run the event.

ATTN ANYBODY WHO WANTS TO COMPLAIN ABOUT THE STAFF:
If you think you can do a better job than the hired staff - OFFER YOUR SERVICES! The TPCi staff would rather have people who know the game than just have able bodys help set up. If you lose round 1 or 2, talk to Mike Liesik or Dave Schwimmer and ask if you can help out with the event. You will be doing it on a volunteer basis, but you will be helping the event run better.

Why would you work for free for a company who makes "winners" pay their prizes?
TPCi does not make winners pay for their own prizes - They actually give you $300 or even a fully paid trip to nationals. Plus the trophys, all for an event where you did not have to pay for entry like most other games.

Now, they GENERALLY make it worth your time to volunteer (At worlds and nationals they have given a lot of very cool stuff to volunteers and staff in the past) but if they don't have the product, since you volunteered your time they are not legally obligated to compensate you. That is why the use the word volunteer.

Every time i have volunteered in the past i have received Pokemon TCG product, t-shirts, event exclusive bags that say "20XX worlds/National volunteer/staff" along with other neat stuff - but they are not obligated to give this to you since you are volunteering your time.

Really? This is what i read from the event page:

US Nationals Prizes said:
3rd through 8th Place:

  • An invitation to compete at the Pokémon Video Game World Championships in Kona, Hawaii, U.S.A., on August 13th - 15th, 2010
  • Airfare and 4-day/3-night hotel accommodations for the winner (including parent or legal guardian for players under 18) to attend the Pokémon Video Game World Championships
9th through 16th Place:

  • An invitation to compete at the Pokémon Video Game World Championships in Kona, Hawaii, U.S.A., on August 13th - 15th, 2010
Basically half of the winners get an invitation to hawaii, but not the travel. So if you don't pay the travel, you've got nothing. This is even worse for europeans, because travel costs can reach 1500-2000 euro. Not just 300 dollars.
And there IS an entry fee, the game that you use to play at the tournament. Last year this was obvious, as forcing the use of platinum didn't have any reason or advantage than using D/P

Technically, Platinum had some different game mechanics than D/P, including Blizzard and Thunder breaking protect if in the right weather conditions.

Your bit about an entry fee is crap. Then your logic would mean that playing any TCG (Magic, Yugioh, Pokemon, Etc) that you bringing your own cards in an entry fee. If given the option, would you have bought HeartGold or SoulSilver if you did not need to? But then again by your logic, TPCi should supply the game as well if the event is going to be free.

And you GET to go to hawaii if you make top 16. It is a privilege to play in the world championships. Would you prefer that they did away with 9-16 all together and JUST give the paid trip to top 8? That way they will not be confusing you about prizes being only for "Winners".

If you would like to continue this argument, you can send me a PM.

Thankfully this got resolved. My friend did get through using a Worlds09 Weavile. I guess the false positive didn't go up. I'm not using it at Newark anyways, but I was just concerned for others.

I do like the idea of lending a hand at the tournament. I may at Newark if given the chance, for obvious reasons that may not occur, but it'd be cool if I could. I wouldn't have a problem with it.

As for the whole debate above, technically a winner is anyone that advanced one round...but that's getting technical. If they bar their "winners" category starting at the Top 16, then no matter what anyone thinks about it, they are winners at the tournament. That's how it goes. No use in arguing about it.

While it does suck that people do get invites, but not necessarily a paid trip there, I can understand the limitations as handing out free trips or at least stipends to the top 16 of every qualifier and the LCQ would be hitting a tad ridiculous. Just be happy that you got the invite at all, because you could be one of those people that goes to Hawaii for the LCQ and loses...and is now at Hawaii unable to actually compete in the tournament they showed up for.

I know for a FACT that thunder hits through protect in DP. Best check yourself. I don't use blizzard in hail enough to know about the other one though.

Also, they are being nice, they don't have to give you invitations to anything, but they probably thought, hey, what the hell if they feel that they really got wronged in the final rounds they can fly out to prove themselves.

Let's be honest here. Do you really believe 16th place deserves a freaking plane ticket. If you ask me, no.

Yes, it's a better game.

Well, as a Pokemon battler, you should know that sometimes the best battler doesn't do his or her best because of other influences, namely hax. So, just because they place outside of the Top 8 but in the Top 16 doesn't mean they can't do better next tournament.

I don't think most of these questions/statements were directed towards you blades, But I agree with your points as well.

Hey Paul, could you lock this please? The message is out and the situation is pretty much under control now.

Moral of the story. Know your pokes and don't do anything fishy. If one fails a hack check and you don't think it should have, ask them to take it up with Mike. He's a level headed guy and he'll figure the situation out.

End of Story. Thanks.
