The Everything some hero (NFL) Thread - 2015-16 Season

The last "DEFENSE WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS" actually to win the Super Bowl was probably the Buccaneers in 2002, definitely the Ravens in 2000. The last one to MAKE the Super Bowl were the Bears in 2006 season, where Rex Grossman & Co. got crushed by Peyton Manning. The Seahawks in 2013 had a great defense, but saying that won them the game completely overlooks how awesome and balanced their offensive attack was.

So, please, let's put that terrible cliché to bed one and for all.
its pretty clear that defense alone doesnt win championships. there are two sides to the ballgame, after all. but a team with a great defense and a good offense will win more often than the team with a great offense and an alright defense. the bears in 06 had a great defense but their quarterback was rex grossman who was the definition of inconsistent.

you need a balanced team to win a championship, but having a stronger defense is more important than having a stronger offense, imo.

and btw some hero, i wouldnt say the pats have a bad D... chandler jones is leading the league in sacks, and two players from their secondary have over 3 picks each. they're in the top 5 in pts/game allowed, top 10 in yards/game allowed, and yes they allow a ton of pass/yards per game but they're allowing the 3rd least rush yds per game. so the defense isn't flat out terrible, and its also not ELITE, but it does what it needs to in order for the patriots to win games, and that's why they're the best team in the league.

Seattles entire secondary shouldn't have even been playing in that game, so that game is irrelevant.
Except that it was the Super Bowl which means that it isn't irrelevant. In 2014, New England wasn't even a top 10 offensive team but still beat Seattle. Possibly because of Seattle's banged up secondary but there's no point in looking at what ifs. New England was the better team that day

Patriots D IS bad. Terrible in fact. Doesn't matter when you got an offense like theirs though that cripples the opposing offense. It's definitely not better than the 2014 Cowboys d.
#8 in ypg allowed
#5 in ppg allowed
#3 in rushing defense
#16 in pass defense
#3 in sacks
#2 in turnover differential

Yep so bad.

You're going to argue that their offense makes their defense better? If the opposing team has less possessions, sure, the stats will be inflated a bit. Oh, but they're #7 in yards allowed. And their #14 in Time of Possession, so it's not like their defense is off the field and constantly staying fresh. #5 in points per possession (defense, still). Yeah, no. They absolutely are NOT bad. If anything, the defensive stats are even more impressive because with offenses constantly playing from behind and the pats defense having to play more conservative, the trend would be for stats to be inflated and the defensive ranks to be lower.

Oh and their opponents are averaged to 19th in points per game. Don't forget that they played the healthy big ben, despite being without leveon bell. If you factored in the steelers points average with big ben and without bell, you get them being 3rd in the NFL in points, rather than 17 as of now.

Just stop, dude. You're wrong. And now i'm going to wait for your ignorant refusal that these stats mean anything and that everybody knows the patriots defense is garbage etc. Stop. Shut the fuck up.

In 2014 New England was the number 1 scoring offense in the NFL up until week 17 when they rested their starters.

They put up 5 40 point games in the regular season, and averaged 36ppg in the postseason.

There was no better offense in the NFL last year

The superbowl was the NFL's best offense against the NFL's best defense

they were 11th in total offense not including that week, so it wasn't like their offense was perfect, it was more like their defense got tons of turnovers.

The only possible explanation I can think of for Dumervils facemask penalty is that the Ravens are trying to tank on purpose. That is literally the only thing that comes to mind.

Patriots are mediocre and lucked out. Same ol same ol.
LUCKED OUT

What the fuck did they luck out on besides a bs holding call on the play that would've given them an 8 point lead?

They lucked out that Eli failed to find odell for a wide open TD on their final possession is what they did.

They can't be mediocre since they beat your mighty Giants, right?

Sorry, I forgot logic doesn't apply with you.
