It is Time.

Tournament Rules:
  • General tournament rules and regulations can be found here.
  • Grand slam rules can be found here.
  • Standard BW2 UU.
  • Best of three, single elimination.
  • The banlist for this tournament is the same as the UU ladder of the Smogon University server of Pokemon Showdown.
  • If tier changes occur during the middle of a round, they will take effect in the subsequent round.
  • Battles should take place on Pokemon Showdown! unless both players agree otherwise.*
  • PS allows some illegal movesets. You cannot use them. If you use a banned moveset, depending on the circumstances, you could forfeit your match. If you're caught using Sleep Powder/Spikes Roserade I won't even ask for the circumstances.
  • BW cartridge win conditions are in place, there are no ties.
Stuff that would usually be in hide tags:

Identity

I expect many battles to be completed under alts and I expect many battles to be completed on other servers to prevent scouting. These kind of factors are pretty bad for tournament security, and thus I will make this clear: If I hear any whispers of identity theft (battling as someone you are not) or proxy battling (helping someone else battle through pm) I will not be pleased and I will take severe actions.

Scouting

Next, I do not want to hear anything about counterteaming, at all. It is the silliest thing I have ever heard, any battler worth their marbles has more than one team. Do not complain about it. I also don't want to hear about any forceful scouting, whether it be spying on another teams irc channel or following your opponent around on PO. There is a difference between "ipl is known for using stall" and "let me follow ipl around all day to watch all his battles since I am his opponent". I expect a lot of the former and none of the latter.

With that said, I give permission to all battlers to ask any person spectating their battle to leave if they do not want them watching. However, given the fact that this is the big stage, I am sure a lot of people want to watch, so don't be too mean.

Timer Clause

As for taking long between moves, if your opponent asks you to hurry up, please oblige. If you are doing a damage calc for a key turn that is one thing, but prolonging every move is suspicious and annoying. Don't do it. Furthermore, Battle Timeout is a rule for a reason. If you run out of time, you lose, simple as that. It does not matter what your opponent says. Do not battle if you think you will have to leave mid battle, and instead reschedule for a better time. Timing out is still classified as a loss, unless the reason for timing out is a disconnection. If there is any suspicion that a disconnect was carried out deliberately to take advantage of this rule in any way, we reserve the right to exercise a harsh punishment.

Disconnections

If a player disconnects and either player contends that they could still win, the optimal solution is to recreate the exact situation the disconnection occurred at during the battle. If it is agreed between players that this is not feasible due to unreasonable battle length, highly improbable circumstances, or some other reason, the player who did not disconnect may choose to rematch with either the same teams or (the option to use) new teams. Timing out is still classified as a loss, unless the reason for timing out is a disconnection. If there is any suspicion that a disconnect was carried out deliberately to take advantage of this rule in any way, we reserve the right to exercise a harsh punishment. Do not do it.

I know that was a lot to read, but it is all necessary for me to have posted here so everyone can see it in the case of a dispute. I don't want any confusion or any problems.

Battle Clauses:
  • Evasion Clause
  • OHKO Clause
  • Sleep Clause
  • Species Clause
  • Timed Battle
  • Team Preview

Round Two Deadline: August 20th

Highlight Matches

AB2 vs. dragonuser

R2 of our prestigious tournament pits two serebii warriors against each other in a tier artisan crafted by none other than the mighty Brikien93 [or so we thought?] and his friends . In the red corner we have one of the greatest trolls in the history of Pokemon forums and weighing in at six hundred and thirty-three pounds and draping in big mac sauce and nacho cheese dip, yes, none other than the mighty Applebutter2. While mop he has already shown his skill in tournaments such as the Smogon Premier League, he will need to hope that his UU skills far exceed his ability to convince RMT Staff that he's an ideal candidate for RMT Mod, only to be trolled in the end by the ominous administrator Bloo. In the Blue corner we have a rising star in the competitive scene, the mighty Serebii Frontier Champion Dragonuser. Some say his rise to success is due to tutoring from lamppost, others attribute it to his natural genius as a member of the Indian race, while some brave men even say his skills are a product of bumping countless Ed Sheeran. Suffice to say, dragonuser is certainly a formidable opponent for his fellow Serebian AB2. These two apes, one, a Silver Giant Cleveland Gibbon, the other a Virginian Curry Draped Tamarin, who started out their journeys on the same site, will END each other this round. Who will win? Who Will fall? When will LonelyNess shower? All the answers and more may be revealed this round ~ Honus

Dice vs. ShakeItUp

In another highlight match we have two of Smogon's [many] finest asian battlers, Dice and ShakeItUp. Our half-malaysian beauty from the corn fields of Indiana, Princess Brianna McKinney [lol] takes her dashing Pokemon skills to the field of UU against the self-proclaimed "King of Luck", or at least he would proclaim himself that if he said anything except for "lol" and "nigga". Once an infamous troll in the PO and Smogon Community, Prince Brian has cleaned up his act and become a friendly face around the community, through the carefully crafted and time tested process of "riding admin dick". In truth, there are a lot of things I could say about Dice, but it would be easier for you all to read his autobiography at the prestigious IDM Forums. His opponent, the mighty {UA}DarkRavenn12 proves that Dice is up for yet another challenge after sneaking by BKC in Round 1. It's likely he's procuring some mighty teams with Jason at school but in all honestly he could probably just bring a mightyena and 5 nfes and luck his way past anyone. Will Dice be able to run circles around ShakeItUp like he and all the other team Asia players with mysterious Asian mothers did around the Tournament Directors, or will ShakeItUp control the RNG yet again to net himself the victory? Only time will tell!

August vs. Nails

This game pits US East jock August against East cheerleader Nails, a matchup that is less than desirable for Nails as he was planning to use August’s teams to make a deep run into the tournament. While August is famous for legitimately winning OST 5 by knocking out many big names in the scene of competitive Pokemon and recently winning WCOP VIII, Nails is known for being an integral part of US East’s bid for glory by being a room owner in the East channel. Despite his hectic schedule of college, internship, and staying in contact with his ex-girlfriends, August proved that he is a force to be reckoned with in multiple BW tiers, and is certainly one of the favorites to win the Grand Slam. On the other hand, former RU champion Nails has also shown that his knack for unusual sets and anti-metagame strategies works even on the highest level, beating down PO (BAN ME PLEASE) such as self-proclaimed best BW OUer alive, CTC, in test battles. Will August’s knowledge in Applied Mathematics and talent for picking up girls with nerdy T-shirts allow him to prevail? Or will Nails’ toxic-protect strategy succeed in trumping August’s hail stall fetish, halting August’s claim for a goddamn Smogon T-shirt after 4 years of waiting? Will August finally be able to impress Ellen and replay a winning log in their wedding? Why is ShakeItUp so good at this game? It all depends on how smart Nails scheduled their game, as a blazed August is a fine Jayde at best. ~gr8astard

If someone wants to write up highlight matchups, that'd be cool; just PM them to me or a TD with an actual sense of humor and they'll get edited in. If there are any questions or concerns about the tournament, feel free to join #gslam on IRC. I hope we will see some great battles there!

If you look at the other thread before koko edits it, you'll see that your name wasn't bolded. So yea, you can see who's fault it was. I have a screenshot to prove it :P
