so are we gonna keep throwing around hypotheticals regarding an immensely complex geopolitical situation abroad or focus on the the Trump campaign's (by their own admission) Japanese internment camps v 2.0?
Right, let's ignore the potential of a war with Russia and focus on some idiot talking about things that simply will never happen.

Off topic post. I'm genuinely curious, please do entertain my simple question. What's in it for all the smogon brass? The respected of the community that are desperately trying to influence forum member's opinion. Why is it so important? I haven't liked one single president in my 31 years and wouldn't vote for none of em!! I HAVE NEVER VOTED, not due to lack of interest. Due to conflict of interest.

Hello, I'm average Joe. None of these big wig pay-to-play politicians have ever done shit that directly benefited me in my 31 years! I'm not even being selfish, though. That is what democracy is all about, vote who will work for you. You all can misguide this conversation wherever you want, but there has to be a reason. Help me understand what all the fuss is all about. Both candidates would have sent us to war, why? America's BROKE. The world is BROKE. Capitalism is failing, what does anyone of you have to gain by promoting one side of a filthy ass broken coin? Republican or democrat is two sides to one coin, that coin is capitalism.

You can piss and moan about white or black but to any one who is REALLY paying attention the only color that matters is Obviously, $green$. So...I ask again, what do any of you have to gain by presenting this utterly biased dialect? Please enlighten me.

Sorry for the double post. I just want to be clear where I'm coming from. People would have been angry no matter who got elected. I'm pretty neutral to the whole election cycle due to this mainly. I couldn't see either result being good because people would have been angry regardless who won. My decision not to vote is what it is,but what it ins't is some battle cry. I just wish things were better. I think we all do.

My question still stands. I just want to know why you all think it matters so much, it really doesn't matter if you think I'm stupid for that. Politics are one thing I have never truly understood and I'm not ashamed to admit that.

Well the first thing is capitalism in America's usage isn't broke. Nor is it true capitalism either but still, the point stands. You're overreacting on 'the world is broke', that's basically implausible. The world itself is a closed economy, that money must end up somewhere within that area. Is America in danger of going under? By no foreseeable means. Fed's the one guiding that anyways.

At the end of the day, Fed's your monetary policy (interest rates, money supply), but the govt is your Fiscal Policy. You probably hear about that a lot. Basically trade deals, interactions with the actual properties of the economy (Glass-Steagall or ISO 9001/14000 style). Even if not that, you've definitely seen the effects through Patents, the EPA, WTO involvement, FDA... anything that can stop a product from being on the market or giving an effective temporary monopoly is part of that fiscal mix. It's a pretty big deal. True capitalism has fiscal policy basically not existing, so only the Fed would really do anything. Probably hear libritarians suggest something like that.

What people worry about with regards to the economy is you've basically got a guy who might've taken econ 101 in office. Does he get basic properties of economics? Probably... But I doubt he's got anything on intermediate/advanced stuff. So people worry, is he going to be this kind of idiot who doesn't understand the balancing of inflows and outflows, or the importance of restraining free market activities. Honestly, I think he doesn't understand anything that isn't directly in the business side of it and even then I'm not sure how much of a business mogul he actually is. I do like some of the early steps he's taken: TPP dead in the water, Obamacare probably sticking are both good. However cutting the top 1%'s (400k+) tax braket would be absoultely disasterous and inflate the deficit for no reason.

However in this thread people are more concerned about his respecting (or lack thereof) of minorities. Between LGBTQ communities, Latinos, Blacks and women, there's been comments made that are frankly unacceptable. Dude fires from the hip and sprays worse than a high pressure garden hose. His comments, whether or not he believes it, incite violence. You can't talk down latinos and not expect gullible people to not believe the words coming out of your mouth. He's the president now; his words are like the word of God to some people. And that can preach a lot of hate. More importantly, if he believes any of this and acts on it, he's going to have some insane human rights violations.

tl;dr dude represents insecurities of a nation divided and that has shown quite a few hate-filled acts that shouldn't exist in a civil society.

This made my day because it's sadly so on point. lol

Well I'll be posting here tonight with far more substance when I'm free, regarding to this post of mine: http://www.smogon.com/forums/threads/us-election-thread-read-post-2014.3546409/page-80#post-7070742 and what I've seen in this thread since then. Some encouraging and some very much "I told you so" posts. It's sad but the reality that many people perceive this like a competition with two different sides and not simply as right or wrong which the majority of what's being discussed just basically comes down to.

That said at the very least both sides are here attempting to explain both sides constructively which regardless of what "side" you've taken is in fact some form of positivity.

When it comes to politics, the vast majority of people would think they are the right ones.
Just like how people from nearly every religion would consider their own religion to be the right one.

Plus now, people are thinking that Trump is Hitler.
So they want to persuade people who voted for Trump, that Trump really really is Hitler.

"Jeff Session's full name is Jefferson Beauregard Sessions, named after his father, Jefferson Beauregard Sessions. Jefferson, as in Jefferson Davis, president of the Confederate States of America. Beauregard, as in PTG Beauregard, the first brigadier general of the Confederate army.

Maybe this morning you were like, "Wow, who is this Senator Jeff Sessions from Alabama? Is he a racist moonbat, or is he not a racist moonbat? I just don't know! He's going to be the person in charge of defending the constitutionality of the federal government's actions, so I sure am curious what he knows and how he thinks!"

Well, in addition to the time he lost the opportunity for a federal judgeship in the 80s because he was too racist, this Garbage Monster has claimed that the central problem with the KKK was that he heard they "smoked marijuana." He also stated that the 14th Amendment was written by "The Founders" (exceedingly false) and then used that false statement as evidence for why immigration laws should be suspicious of folks who were naturalized rather than born here."

The same can be said for literally every other ideology ever. That's how ideology works, you usually don't adopt one unless you think it's right...

it matters because the president elect is a man that mocks disabled reporters, said the innocent central park five are still guilty, calls latinos rapists and criminals, encourages violence, has people in his camp suggesting reinstating interment camps, had anti-semitic campaign ads, and that's not even all of it! i could go on!

there are people rightfully afraid for their lives in trump's america. we need to be talking about this.

Because it's impossible to level criticism against Soros and Yellen without also hating all Jewish people, right? And instead of addressing that criticism you label it a anti-Semitic conspiracy theory and beat him over the head with it, because that isn't the same kind of cheap political brow-beating that let him win the election in the first place?

I really hate it when you people make me defend Trump, because I'm by no means a fan of his either, but when you quote demonstrably ridiculous nonsense like this I have no choice. Please stop it.

how is that not literally coded anti-semitic language? let me put a picture of a jewish person and show that they have The Money And The Power. i assume you're not jewish, but i am, and it's easy to be sensitive to these kinds of things when that's literally a dog whistle for anti-semitism

edit: and either way, lets say that it is a stretch (it isn't) what about all the other things he's done that are in that list? and all the stuff i didn't list because jesus christ he's done a lot of garbage

"Trump won because of too sensitive identity politics stop being so outrageous and accusing him of things he's said."

No, trump won because PC liberals and the white working class is tired of their problems being belittled by SJWs and harassed for anything they say that doesn't align with their ideals. As a minority or a white american, people who aren't racist, misogynist bigots are fucking tired of being called racist misogynist bigots for voicing their opinions. College presidents having to apologize for saying "all lives matter" instead of black lives matter in support of the ferguson riots?

Don't even try to tell me the SJWs and PC liberals DIDN'T lose a huge portion of the white working class vote for Clinton. People like Laci Green and their blind one-sided balance did more to win donald trump this election than donald trump did himself.

No one belittled anything. What happened was a prioritization of issues that mattered to a cross-section of socio-economical minority communities a.k.a the NOT-Majority populace. And yes that includes calling out bullshit rhetoric like All Lives Matter. I was also gonna write a bunch of stuff why but then it's already there in this thread reiterated patiently multiple times by various posters, but clearly you either lack the wisdom or the literal ability to read, before you barged in with full confidence - do your homework.

But it's indeed interesting that you would see it as belittling. It's almost as if a certain class of people are anxious not to be at the center of things, or worse probably to blame to some degree for the issues of others. hmmmmmm.....

As for people who are defending Trump's Anti-Semitism, he's the guy who literally put up this attack tweet.

hmm what is that juxtaposed on a pile of cash? MUST BE A SHERIFF'S BADGE (except not) hurrdurr.....

How exactly is "all lives matter" bullshit rhetoric? Isn't that the point of equality? If you try to tell me that's not politically correct you're 1. proving my point about PC being taken too far and 2. advocating INequality by suggesting black lives are somehow more important than others.

The "issue" is that people are sick of being told to "check their privilege" and feel like their problems are rendered irrelevant in this world that seems to insist everybody is racist and misogynist. Now SJWs are saying we're all racist and misogynist because we voted for trump...despite the fact that we voted for trump because we hate being called racist for not supporting the ferguson riots, and are furthermore harassed for having a different opinion.

And I didn't say I saw it as belittling. Don't put words in my mouth.
How many different ways do we have to show "policy x is motivated by racist thought y and is championed by known racist z" until we stop getting "I'm so tired of being called a racist" responses.
If you're calling me racist you're again proving my point. PC, SJWs and third wave feminism are fucking disgusting. If you don't want to believe that's why americans voted for trump and want to insist half the country is racist, I'm not going to bother listening because nobody who voted for obama went "YOU KNOW WHAT I HATE NEGROS IMA VOTE TRUMP".
