Sticky Orange Islands SQSA Thread

Only thing I've ever heard to that effect is Pretendo, and it doesn't even appear to be working on the 3DS Pokemon games yet, much less anything on the DS. (Not that it purports to be working on DS compatibility at all.) They're doing God's work, but it is unfortunate that it seems the nature of what they're working on makes progress slow.

I wish I had something better to say, but I thought I'd at least air the bit about Pretendo in the possibility that you don't already know about it.

That's good there's someone working on it at least! Hopefully in the future it comes to something.

Is there a cart similar to the R4 Cart for 3DS that works similarly? i.e. lets me put an emulator save onto a physical cart that can trade with a retail cart?

Does anyone know, or have a source of information listing, all the Pokémon that can get every attainable ribbon / mark in the games and be shiny also?

For instance, Chansey can get all the ribbons up to Gen 9, being able to go to BDSP, PLA, SV, and SWSH, but it can't both be shiny and get the National Ribbon.

Sudowoodo, Piloswine/Mamoswine, Sneasel/Weavile, and Heracross.

If ZA adds any ribbons, it is likely that this list will shrink to only Heracross.

Thanks for the look-up! I knew about about Heracross and Sneasel/Weavile from a cursory look at the list, but I didn't check Sudowoodo or Piloswine/Mamoswine.

None of those is a monster I especially want to make into a project, unfortunately, although if I chose Piloswine/Mamoswine I could at least name it Ganon. Having a memorable or appriopriate name is a part of the RM project fun.

It's crazy doing RM projects as it is, knowing that in modern Pokemon you could very well be SOL when a new game premiers or gets an expansion.

In spite of that, I'm still curious: Do you have a resource for the shadow Pokemon of XD that can get every ribbon? Naturally, they can't be shiny (unless the developers create a patch item that just changes regular Pokemon to shiny form, but I expect that won't ever happen), but if they can ace the ribbon count, that's something for sure. If you don't have a convenient resource, don't go through any trouble just compiling a list for me. I can still get that information by looking through Pokemon HOME and other places

So just glancing through this list, & just assuming SWSH has a specific mark or ribbon exclusive to it, I suppose it'd be...
Spheal
Vulpix
Duskull
Roselia
Swinub (specifically Swinub, since Colo has Piloswine)
Magneton
Golduck
Magmar
Scyther (specifically Scyther, and Kleavor, since Colo technically has Scizor)
Chansey, as you mentioned
Electabuzz
Snorlax
Mr. Mime

if SWSH doesn't have an exclusive ribbon you can add Nosepass, Lickitung & Specifically Teddiursa

Ultimately once you cross reference L:A it culls the majority of the list, then it's just minor clean up on who doesn't appear in SWSH or SV.

SWSH has the league champ ribbon; unless that is available in BDSP? And I assume the Tower Master Ribbon is available in BDSP?

Thanks for info,, though. I probably won't be pursuing any more monsters than I've already got from Colo/XD.

It's crazy how many Pokemon were clipped off from the Hisui Ribbon. Of my 7 extant RM projects, only 1 (Garchomp) can get the Hisui ribbon. Maybe there will be some secondary method for getting previously blocked-off ribbons someday, but like the "shiny patch," I highly doubt this will ever happen. It's not impossible the developers worry that this would invalidate the efforts of players who have already made it so far in their ribbon journeys.

Ah that's right, I forgot about the Galar Champion ribbon. I was thinking of the Tower Master Ribbon which is available in both.
I'm a bit surprised the ribbon master people dont have a lot of pre-set documentation about all of this, honestly, considering the very limited pool of Pokemon.

Also I imagine the reason there'll probably never be a way to get some of these ribbons on other Pokemon will amount to less "invalidation" and more....they don't even really know or care? I guess that sounds mean, but ribbon mastering is a very niche collection in a set of already niche collectors and comparatively recent. And at this point there's already a boat load of ribbons that were one-off, event exclusive or quasi-impossible to obtain these days. Not to mention it's already lumped together with Marks, which are like 90% one-or-the-other.
Basically they like to keep supporting them because they're already tracking the data, and they like to make new ones because it's fun and adds more personality to your Pokemon, but there's already so many asterisks to "collecting them all" that it's impossible so there's no reason to try and "cater" to the people who want to pick up as many as they can.

I am aware that Ribbon Master projects are very niche. I do not mean to say it would be reasonable for the developers to alter the game experience significantly for other players, just to help out players who have made a decision to pursue a project that is not official in any way.

They are certainly conscious of the fact that some players do want to get as many ribbons as possible, though, and from my perspective it wouldn't take that much ingenuity or programming ability to just do something to make the Hisui Ribbon more accessible. I recognize, of course, that the developers have reasons for doing things that I don't understand because I can't see things from their position. I just want that ribbon ;_;

Regular Vulpix isn't in Legends, only Alolan.
SWSH has the league champ ribbon; unless that is available in BDSP?
BDSP's Pokémon League awards the Sinnoh Champion Ribbon (same as DPP), SwSh awards the Galar Champion Ribbon. BDSP's Battle Tower does award the same Tower Master Ribbon as SwSh though. There's also the Master Rank Ribbon, but that can also be obtained in SV.

If they'd left the name as Pioneer Ribbon as it was in the internal data of Legends they could have redistributed it somewhere in Z, but as it is now it's basically locked down unless they do another Sinnoh revisit.

As someone already trying a sort of Ribbon Master (on a Grovyle, it can't get all ribbons, but it's also the only mon I care enough to do it, it already took a while to get a shiny starter Treecko on Sapphire) I can't overstate how helpful the subreddit community is, mainly because as mentioned it's a very niche thing. Here is a helpful guide for every step if you really want a "true" Ribbon Master that can get everything including the Hisui ribbon. Personally, given the amount of time you have to sink on it and considering how it will soon be an impossible challenge anyways -not to mention that it isn't really future-proof on most mons- I would just choose a Pokemon you like enough to have as a trophy of sorts.

Personally, with the Legend ribbon obtained which is the most important one (so it can be Grovyle the Legend) I just get everything ready in case I don't make it in time for the Bank shutdown.

So, Breloom in Gen 3 has two ability slots: Effect Spore (0) and Effect Spore (1). If a Shroomish has the (1) ability and stays un-evolved in Gen 3, it can evolve in Gen 4 and have Poison Heal, right?

Now what I'm wondering is, what if Shroomish evolves into Breloom in Gen 3 with ability (1). What happens if it gets into a generation with the Ability Capsule and takes that item? Will it switch to ability (0) which is Effect Spore, then need another to go to (1) Poison Heal? Or as I expect, will it just go straight to Poison Heal?

Bulbapedia got you covered:
When Abilities were introduced in Generation III, some Pokémon only had one possible Ability. A number of these species were given a second Ability in a later generation. If a Pokémon whose species gained an Ability after Generation III is transferred to Generations IV or V, it will initially retain its original Ability; upon evolving, however, its Ability slot will be recalculated and its Ability may change. When a Pokémon is transferred to Generation VI or Generation VII, however, it will be locked into the appropriate slot for its current Ability.

So to answer your question specifically, by the time it entered Gen VI (the first game to have the Ability Capsule), the transfer process would have seen its Ability was Effect Spore and therefore set its Ability to be (0) even if it was a (1) initially. Evolving it to a Breloom would have it be Effect Spore, and using an Ability Capsule on either would change their Ability to Poison Heal.

Only Gen IV and V had the strange quirk where a Pokemon could have a chance of changing to its other Ability upon evolving as its Ability slot would be recalculated (NOT rerolled, which means if a Pokemon's Ability does swap that means it'll always swap no matter if you reset).

I also have an issue with an Adamant Rillaboom whose SpA I was trying to determine:

1000011096.jpg

I'm certain about the stats and EVs, but though the stats and EVs are certain and the Rillaboom is Lv100, I seem to have two numbers for SpA. I'm wondering what I can do to discriminate the number, as I like to record exact numbers for IVs if possible.

EDIT: To complicate things slightly, Serebii lists the lowest possible value for a negative-natured, 0 EV / 0 IV SpA stat for Rillaboom to be 112 at Lv100. 135 (current SpA stat) minus 112 (0 IV SpA stat) does not yield either number, 25 or 26. If it did, I could just conclude the SpA stat that way.

Rillaboom does end up with the same SpA at both IVs because of the nature multiplier rounding down. If you want to confirm you can mint it to a neutral (or any non -SpA) nature where the SpA should be 150 or 151.

EDIT: Or just add 4 EVs to SpA which should also differentiate it by a point.

Hi to all,
I'm trying to play Pokémon Stadium without rentals pokémons, I mean... Only pokémons of RBY or also GSC.
I won pretty easy the gym leaders, the elite four and also and the Prime cup because I can use my team lv100.
But now I'm very confuse wich pokémons to use in Pika Cup, Petit Cup and Poké Cup. Could someone give me some advices?
Pika Cup the Pokémons lv are 15 to 20.
Petit Cup the Pokémons lv are 25 to 30.
Poké Cup the Pokémons lv are 50 to55.

I was trying to breed a Clefable with Amnesia in Pokémon Crystal to transfer it to Red, Amnesia is pretty strong in the first generation, but I guess Clefable wasn't able to learn softboiled in this generation :(
But, despite of Clefable, I don't have any hint which more pokémon I could choice, can someone help me?

So in HGSS the third starter Pokemon in Elm's lab disappears at some point and it's never explained and the game even prompts you to wonder "who did Elm give the third starter to?", yes yes, it's all very mysterious.

My question is, does anyone know when exactly it disappears? What's the flag - getting the eighth gym badge, defeating the Elite Four, defeating Red?

My gut was it's when you get the 8th badge, since that's when you're forced to return to the Lab and it just feels like a point where you'd see an update to it

I entered the Hall of Fame for the first time in Pokémon SoulSilver Version recently, and I can confirm that the third First Partner Pokémon disappears significantly earlier in your journey - sometime before you earn the Fog Badge. I cannot remember what I was backtracking for, but I visited Prof. Elm's Lab, and the third Poke Ball had disappeared at that point. Has anyone found a definite answer?

Hi,

Um are you playing Stadium, Stadium 2 or both?
My rule of thumb for building a balanced party is: you need Water, Fire, Electric, Ground, Dark and Fighting pokémon that are around the same level.

These are the Pokémon I would use whenever I'd challenge the gym leaders & the Elite Four in Stadium 2 (they were all lvl 50, so you can use them for the Poké Cup):

RBY: Gyarados, Charizard, Pikachu, Haunter (or better yet Gengar), Sandshrew and Primeape
GSC: Slowbro (or better yet Slowking), Hitmontop, Onix, Umbreon, Flaaffy and Typhlosion.

Surf, Flamethrower, Thunderbolt, Thunder Wave, Earthquake, Crunch, Faint Attack/Bite, Low Kick/Triple Kick and Psychic are useful moves to have.

Also, if you want a Typhlosion that knows Flamethrower, if you don't have a TM, you have to raise a Cyndaquil to level 46. Once it learns Flamethrower you can let it evolve.

Good luck! ☺️

I'm EV Training a Deoxys in Gen III. I caught it in FireRed, and intend to use it in Attack Forme, but I need it to have Extremespeed. So I traded it to Emerald. I decided I should just EV train it and level it up there to save time since it's traded.
My question is: will it have the stats I want it to have in Attack Forme? I didn't question this at first. But when I look at the level up gains in Emerald, Attack doesn't seem to be going higher than the rest. Should it get all its stat gains in FireRed or does that not matter as long as it has its EVs and Attack Forme base stats?

Yellow has certain Pokemon at level 15-30 to help with those cups, but with Pika Cup you can demolish the whole tier with a Starmie pretty easily. If you can't get a Starmie for some reason, Lapras will do just fine. I also used the gift Charmander on my run, turned it into a Charmeleon with Dragon Rage/Fire Blast/Slash/Dig. Have something with Dragon Rage and your Water-type of choice be your level 20 Aces, and fill the rest of the team with Rentals, this works fine for Rounds 1 +2.
For both Rounds I used rentals in Petit Cup and IIRC it was Bulbasaur/Pikachu/Diglett/Gastly/Jigglypuff/Horsea. Every other rental sucks.

This guide will give you the same teambuilding advice for Poke Cup that I would: https://www.smogon.com/forums/threads/pokémon-stadium-includes-a-guide.3466780/

The battle facilities subforum doesn't have their own SQSA thread, so I'll ask here. Has there ever been a battle facility where the stuff that happens inside the facility affect the Pokemon's friendship?

Is there anywhere in Pokémon X where you can see Gorebyss, Rhyperior and Yveltal (especially the latter) to complete your Pokédex since that just needs Pokémon seen rather than caught, or do I have to obtain them myself?
(I was planning to go through Y for Yveltal and transfer up some stuff eventually, but it would be nice to get the Oval Charm before all that...)
