7* Raids & Other Assorted Events: Pikachu Rerun (7/12-25), Dondozo (7/26-8/8), Dragonite (8/23-9/1)

I feel like even if Dondozo wasn't a one-off situation, that Dragonite would probably still have Multiscale. It's fancier and after all this time the ability is only on itself and Lugia.

Honestly, unless Dragonite is a DD-spammer with EQ (which I highly doubt will be the case....right? :worrywhirl:)

Clear Smog Torkoal and fish for burns with Lava Plume or Inferno for support?

Otherwise I'm going to see how Body Press Corviknight does with Taunt.

Well dang, thanks to Inner Focus rerolling for Intimidate is not even an option. At the very least each time he goes for Scale Shot he's making himself more vulnerable to Body Press. I wonder if Orthworm will still be viable.

Air Balloon Mimikyu is immune to the entire standard moveset, but those scripted moves early on might hit it and pop the balloon. Note that even if you put a Substitute in place before the Thunder, if you get chosen as the random target for that move then it'll still pop. It's a 56.25% chance that you dodge the targeting of both moves, and can then SD up as usual. Not hard to reset for on a solo.

You'll likely need to PP Up Drain Punch to have enough oomph to break through the shield bar (unless you get a Drifblim teammate, which forces Dragonite to target it with Scale Shot and tank its own defense even before the double-attack phase might lead it to randomly pick a 25-power move), and might as well throw a Ghost Curse down early on to get consistent chip damage every turn even through the shield phase.

After two failed online attempts, my first solo attempt with Taunt Skarmory was a close win. I got unlucky toward the end where I was hit by ESpeed, Draco, then another Espeed and lost my Tera Fighting, but 2 IDs followed by Dragonite randomly choosing Scale Shot allowed me to win.

If you want to win with randos, you will pick support Malamar, and you will like it.

Malamar @ Sitrus Berry
Contrary
252/0-/252+/0/4/0
-Skill Swap
-Helping Hand
-Reflect
-Psychic Terrain, Swagger, or Topsy Turvy

Malamar cannot learn Psychic Terrain.

Cress can probably work for support.

:SV/Cresselia:
Leftovers
Tera Steel
252 HP / 252 Def / 6 HP
Bold Nature

Mud Slap
Reflect
Lunar Blessing
Protect

With Tera Steel Cress becomes resistant to everything except Earthquake, which she has Levitate for anyways. And while Mud Slap will make it so he will not be dropping his own Def with Scale Shot, especially considering it already has less than 100 accuracy, if he starts hitting with it any more than 2 times things can get scary. Sadly, all of these moves are too important to drop for Helping Hand, but still.

My bad for being overly zealous. I won with unused fake tears. That slot isn’t super important.

btw Torkoal also works. Standard Inferno/Wisp/IronDef/ClearSmog with Zoom lens. I didn’t have Shell Armor, so I was living dangerously. Tera into anything useful helps somewhat. Torkoal is definitely not super consistent, because that Inferno is kind of important. But if you can get going, your team might live long enough to win.

If you don’t have an answer to +6 dragonite, you will get party wiped. Also if you get paired with a lvl 37 shiny drifblim player, you’re also probably going to lose.

Solo'ed with standard Tera Fighting Corviknight. Taunt is very useful in the beginning at slowing down the Dragon Dance boosting, I managed to get two off before the shield. So long as you don't get hit by the Thunder or confused by the Hurricane, or any crits, you should be good. At +6 Def, and Dragonite at +6 Atk, Extreme Speed does about 100 damage, which is roughly how much Shell Bell heals after a Tera Fighting Body Press into the shield, so it's just a slugging match to the end. I even got hit by Draco Meteor which tickled. Can't rely on the NPCs at all for most of this battle, they just kept getting OHKO'ed after Dragonite set up enough. Interestingly, that early image above is incorrect and has been fixed on Serebii; Dragonite is Brave, not Lonely.

Despite having Scale Shot as its Dragon STAB and TM drop, Dragonite will prefer to OHKO and Extreme Speed most things at +6. However, there is one AI that will guarantee picking Scale Shot, and that is Drifblim thanks to being immune to both other attacks. This allows any physical mon to deal more reliable damage, and what makes this Azumarill solo somewhat possible in time (affording an extra death).

Because there's barely any window to buff up and inflict debuffs without taking damage, Azumarill's gameplan is to wait 3 minutes for both resets to pass (and not get hit by T0 Hurricane) and start spamming Mud-Slap while Dragonite is still setting up Dragon Dance, though this may be counterproductive for hitting Scale Shots but you don't need to go to -6. Note while playing in group mode you auto input every 60 seconds, so I prefer to just lose on the initial game to lock in AI. A +6 Extreme Speed will OHKO (still likely with 1.5x Defense) and you can't really mitigate it fast enough, so I just went for BrightPowder and Substitute to buy as many turns as I could much like Azurill against Sceptile. I hit 3 initial Mud-Slaps (Dragon Dance, ESpeed miss, Dragon Dance) and died to the next hit.

After respawning, I substituted and he missed but hit the next attack afterwards. I went to -5, substituted again, heal cheered, Belly Drummed, and started tera Play Roughing for the rest of the fight. At this point Dragonite was only around -2 defense (ending at -3), but it was still doing great damage to the shield with 3 hits to break and a 2HKO after (with some misses).

Wow, I beat him on my 1st attempt with Orthworm without any deaths with plenty of time left. Granted, he didn't target me with any of the scripted moves except Draco Meteor (pre Tera), but still. And he only went for Earthquake once. That was surprisingly easy.

(edit) Of course, as usual, dumb as heck rng can ruin everything. 5 hits with Scale Shot? Fine, whatever. A crit on the very last one? Get the heck out of here with that.

idk if topsy turvy works with shield up.

:sv/orthworm:
Orthworm @ Shell Bell
Ability: Earth Eater
Tera Type: Fighting
EVs: 252 HP / 8 Def / 248 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Body Press
- Iron Defense
- Substitute
- literally doesn't matter, you won't use it

Orthworm felt pretty simple, especially with the extra turn afforded by Dragonite attacking once into Earth Eater. Sub actually saves a bit of HP in the fight while Dragonite attacks you pre-Tera, and is a nice safety blanket for the wipe turn. I was looking into actually bumping up the Defense so that Extreme Speed can't break your Sub even after using Tera, but taking another 148 EVs out of Special Defense makes the special attacks really scary if they connect with you, so I think the safety is a little better than trying to high roll with Substitute. Once you're +6 post-wipe it's just a good old fashioned slug fest.

Nothing scientific here, but cleared my first attempt using Torkoal for support with 3 Iron Hands. Basically just used Clear Smog and Inferno (with Zoom Lens) to burn through the shield. Cleared pretty safely with like 25% of the timer left.

Second attempt someone came with Contrary / Skill Swap Malamar and that was going well until Dragonite started spamming Scale Shot and boosting it's defense. My Tera Stellar Corviknight just couldn't deal enough damage to finish it when I was +6 defense with Body Press. Not sure of the best way to deal with that, could maybe run a Nasty Plot Mewtwo with Aura Sphere or something, but that feels super niche.
