CAP 36 - Art Submissions

Still very early iteration of this design, but this is my take on CAP 36! It is based on Maxwell's Demon, the theoretical physics concept of anti-entropy. Design is largely based off of the Flesh Panopticon from ULTRAKILL, the Lament Configuration from Hellraiser, and Garnet from Steven Universe. Earlier iteration had me try a double mon-like design similar to Tandemaus and Calyrex. Huge thanks to drifbloomCF for a lot of direction with iteration.

Also they're in love. probably. idk can you win CAP with yuri i like to imagine its possible.

Solar system orrery squids! In very obviously different WIP stages. The ICE form takes up the concept of a SUPERNOVA, like the death of a star.

The swaparound concept is as so: Sun and solar system --> Supernova is the death of the star --> The star reforms using whatever mass is created from the supernova
And repeat!

I updated the Fire/Steel design! I wanted it to look less like a pre-evo and to make it fit No Guard better. Note: The Fire/Ice design is 99% the same as before, just included for comparison/completeness.

Bonus: I went through a few iterations on the Fire/Steel design before I landing on the one above. Here are some of these earlier WIPs:

After much deliberation, I decided to go in another direction, one that I'm very excited about its potential. This is a wolf in sheep's clothing that transforms to/from a werewolf. The Steel-type comes from the sheep wool being steel wool. The Ice-type comes from the mythical wendigo, which are cryptids depicted with frozen hearts. Steel wool expands its mass when burning, which explains the drastic change in size, the wool is burning extra-hot blue flames in the Ice form (tho the depiction in the art is a WIP).

I have to make some adjustments still, particularly with the Ice-type form. But I think this is potentially a great idea. I just hope there's enough time to fully develop it ;;

Yo, so bird cage didn't do too bad but it wasn't clicking for a lot of people so I'm sloppily trying a new direction. It's a soot-covered imprisoned imp that breaks free into a frostbitten Krampus. Some feedback I've gotten so far is that the bottom of the furnace is just sorta floating on the ice guy and maybe the ice guy's face is a bit too cartoonish? I also personally wonder how obvious it is that the ice form is wearing ice skates, that might not be clear. So those are things I'll address in later iterations.

Thanks to Azoth, Ender, MrDollSteak, Pip, and Quany for feedback so far!

Thank you for the support!
HOW DID YOU MAKE THIS BETTER?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!?
Also the first form has four legs and the second gas six. Making sure it isn't a mistake.

Finished coloring for the finalized design the grills look like lights I'm aware and yes it's very rotom esque from the concept itself but the coloration is done and as and I feel it's finalized I might add a litter more spikage. The cracks are meant to show where the conditioner breaks apart to reveal the sprits and no I do not have the means to make it digital but this is probably the finalized designs for now. And the fire steel looks like a preevo yes but it's not meant to be and it still looks like the stand alone I was thinking about the process of how it went from an alive air conditioner to now two spirits basically sharing a non living air conditioner and yes the cracks looks like a mouth and that's kinda intentional. As that aspect comes from a species of moth that uses fake eyes to blend in with its surroundings and really this camouflage helps it's survive and this aspect of camouflage is also interesting to be implemented along with the opposite yet equal vibe from the fire ice typing. I look forward to seeing how the rest of the process will go in order to tweak the design if necessary. Because I have no way to digitalize this I am forced to use this rather grainy photo unfortunately.
Justification:
Fire-steel----> Fire-Ice: Air conditioner to spirit form
Defensive to offensive: you can kinda tell from the design
No Guard: the spirit itself doesn't have much armor apart from the broken parts of the air conditioner
Inspirations:
Mimicry (from moths and mimic octopi)
Comedy and Tragedy masks
Rotom (for the spirit inhabiting the air conditioner idea)
Air Conditioners

Supporting material can be found by going through my old posts on this thread from the original design to some other designs before finally this design. Mostly because I don't want to place too many photos on this submission.

I drew this guy on AutoDraw.com in like five minutes. He’s supposed to be this levitating knight sorta guy with flames between his armor plates. In his other form the armor becomes translucent ice that allows the fire to vent more easily, making him faster.

I swear I can draw better though, it’s probably too late at this point in the process…

Which way, Wizard man? Massive arm cannons or magic staff made OUT of massive arm cannons? (I had the idea for a while and thought it was really fun. so here it is, compiled with a bit of a general redraw of them both.

also, the two images are actually separate.

Viking ram that blows through his horns to summon the aurorae to his aid.
Loosely based on the Norse watchman god Heimdall, who was said to live where the burning rainbow bridge Bifrost met the heavens (hence the aurorae) and to possess a mighty horn, Gjallarhorn, that was to be sounded at the beginning of Ragnarok (hence the horns). He's also associated with sheep, so there's that.
Also incorporated some runic/dwarven imagery to tie the Norse theming together.

2nd generation, I really feel like I overdesigned this guy, he’s way too complicated. Might have scale back later, also ignore the doodles in da middle.

Despite being bipedal, it has a quadrupedal gait, the forelimbs are highly developed so it can properly stand, with only its butt levitating (cuz Plasmanta & Astrolotl levitate but they’re still grounded). In the other form it’s floating but the tail touches the ground so it doesn’t count.

Anyway, his body is a suit of armor with flames spouting from any openings (top). In his other form (bottom) the armor transitions to ice spikes covering his back and arms, with the internal fire escaping through enlarged dorsal vents. The heavy armor becomes lightweight, fragile ice boosting his speed further by expelling the fire. Also an armored knight sorta fellow fits with No Guard.

His head opened tripartite to discharge energy in concentrated blasts (below 1st form). There are also “side profiles” if parts of the body are unclear (idk).

Inspirations (kinda):
- Zinogre
- Lunagaron
- Living Armor (MGE)
- Miracle Matter
- UFO (Pokéstar)
- Hydros
- Blast Zone
- that fire monster I drew when I was 10, probably

The Big Bad Wolf from specifically the Three Little Pigs mixed with the Witch from Hansel and Gretel. A hot blooded, cold hearted beast being contained by an oven that over-heats their mind and tries to melt away their ice typing.

Thermometer Cockatrices! A Liquid Metal bird contained in a glass shell, breaking out when enraged and reaching extreme temperatures at each end.

Fire/Steel -> Fire/Ice: Thermometers utilize mercury, a Metal that easily melts into a liquid, representing Fire/Steel. Thermometers are designed to measure temperature, and the extreme hot and cold ends represent Fire/Ice.
Defensive -> Offensive: The initial form’s liquid metal feathers form the shape of a cage, with the offensive form retracting the spiked cage and the metal igniting into flames or freezing into sharp ice.
No Guard: No Guard doesn’t have much flavor similarities amongst its users outside generally being aggressive, but Mega Pidgeot provides precedent for a bird having No Guard. The design is also based mainly off chickens, which are known to be stubborn.

BONUS: Color WIP

Decided to repurpose one of my scrapped sub ideas for CAP27 for this round, seeing as I felt it would be perfect for this latest CAP concept if only I gave it a couple of tweaks. It's an HVAC Dimetrodon! I wanted to do something with the old idea that the sails on the backs of certain prehistoric animals were used to regulate their body temperature but couldn't figure out how to tie that into the typing until I remembered the comparison between Dimetrodon's sail and a radiator. I thus took that literally and tossed in some extra heat vents for good measure, which would also help this sub lean into its being primarily a special attacker.

I still have to draw the Fire/Ice form but I have a good idea for it already, so I'll see if I can get the sketch for it at least started sometime this week!

sea lions, inspo is like rockets launching and falling into the water afterwards. initial form is rocket mid launch, later form is rocket that falls into the water- sea lion creates a floaty neck thing from ice/glass so it stays floating.

initial ideas for where to go from here:
base form: emphasize mane more, do something interesting with the flippers, less dark color scheme especially on face
later form: currently have flippers based sorta on explosion clouds, maybe have the clouds nearer to the "tail" because that's where the explosion stuff is?
both forms: perhaps make the color schemes more streamlined, like have the colors less spread out and more "polarized" i guess with unifying accents on each. try different eyes

Space dwelling rocket wurm! Travels from meteor to meteor in the wild (outer space), but in captivity (Caught in a pokeball) it sticks to a single meteor from which it can hop in and out of at will. Uses cold gas thrusters to travel in the vacuum of space, though it's still useful on Earth! Segments are retractable, hence the length difference.
