Pokémon TCG Pocket

yeah the value thing is doing a lot of work for trading, but they'd also never allow you to trade without implementing some kind of rarity barrier given this games existence as a gacha game. Be way too easy to abuse if they didn't do some kind of restriction like that
Yeah, that's not the problem with the system.

Tbh, I haven't done any trades yet, anybody got 2 spare Garchomps? Not the EX, the Space-Time Smackdown edition.

I'm honestly really disappointed in Lugia. Yes, you can make it work with Ho-oh, but that's exactly the problem, even as someone who has been saving hourglasses for gen 2 since launch, I'm not looking forward to chasing two specofic exes in two different packs. You can't even argue they made it so Lugia isn't better than Ho-oh because of being colorless, since in the TCG it genuinely has been Water type and, nore importantly, Ho-oh itself has been colorless too.

Anyways, because of Pocket's format of 3 prizes Baby Pokemon may not be as oppresive as in the physical TCG so that's something.

It's cute Lugia references the iconic Neo Genesis card, at least.
it does feel weird to try and make the duo work together like this, and mostly just serves to make Ho-oh way more interesting.

Umbreon's ability is really good, darkness decks are really coming together nicely. Espeon's ability is just. Bad. I would much rather have Shaymin to heal 10 for everyone or Wigglytuff to heal the active, then have someone in the active who passively heals the bench.

Cool to see Babies work about how I expected them to: free, support based attack with free retreat. Part of me was wondering they would go in a different direction; the regional variants dropped their free attacks, for example, or maybe they would try referencing the ancient mechanics from the neo era.

Silver (fun fact his only other card is a Crobat V alt art, and this is Lyra's first card period!) removing Special Energy is really interesting since obviously that means the set is introducing Special Energy. I wonder if they lead off with Double Colorless or Rainbow Energy, probably the most iconic pair.

I genuinely do not understand why this trailer wasn't in the Presents with the other mobile games. I fully expected it to play after the OG TCG section. Just highlights how arbitrary these presents are with their reveals....

i wonder how special energies will work? energy cards dont work, so will everyone just be allowed to run them on the energy selection? will they be item cards?

I mean the easiest implementation is literally run them as a card in the deck, yeah.
The energy zone just being meant for regular energy makes sense, because your energy in the OG game technically have no real limit beyond you need at least one Pokemon and a cap of 60 cards to a deck.
but special energy have always been subject to standard rules.

Gotta be item cards. Some restriction like if you use Rainbow Energy, you can't add energy from the energy zone this turn.

Ho-oh is clearly meant to power up Lugia, but who powers up Ho-oh? :totodiLUL:

If there's no Double Colorless energy, that mon might be cooked. On the other hand, I like the idea of it in colorless decks.

Completely agreed on not understanding why the trailer was not at the Presents, but then agaik the timing for this next set seems very off to me (or maybe ot has been the usual? My time perception lately is messed up because of struggling with personal stuff)

I think that the idea -which to be fair is thematically cool- is that
Ho-oh powers up the three types of the Beasts because of their lore (it even only powers up Basics), while Lugia who has always been in a more vague relationship with the birds in the actual videogames, just happens to use these same three types because of Ice being Water in the TCG as well as doubling down in a refeence as you mentioned. The idea is cool, specially because they are actually some of the few cover duos I usually have a problem picking one of, but again, it's gonna be a nightmare to get a working deck.

I assume it will be Double Colorless energy as item cards as you mention + play with certain supporters like Lyra. More interestingly, could this mean Dragons may get a more consistent set up now? Ho-oh being weak to Water (I assume, I don't remember if it has been shown to be Lightning instead) is largely irrelevant right now because Water is still paying for Misty's crimes.

Water is paying for EX mons' crimes, being weak to Oricorio is tough. Koko is a menace too.
I can definitely call Rainbow energy coming this patch, so one way or another, dragons will get something.

Rescue Scarf sounds pretty neat.
Lyra will be absolutely cooked by Umbreon and Cyrus :totodiLUL:
Silver is a prick lmao. I wish it used the effect before shuffling like Penny, but it's ok.
Elemental Switch is big. Dawn for Fire, Lightning, and Water, but it's not a supporter. Probably the best of the lot.

Elemental Switch will make some Pokemon really :o You can use two in one turn + 1 energy from the turn = 3 energy in our turn is deadly

Maybe even Dawn, but realistically, this will end up more often as 1 Energy + Supporter.

Either way, it is pretty nice. It synergizes well with Manaphy, for example. Any decks of these types that already use Dawn can use it.

I assume the beasts will be here with all this energy play, I wonder if they might have an attempt at synergy with each other.

Anyway....translations aside....
Espeon heals 30 rather than 20 but man, I dunno, that's still healing you have to do in the active. Healing is strong, but I can't see wanting to run this in your psychic deck. It remains an effect I'd want on the bench and is passively happening.

Gyarados looks for waters to discard and just seems like a bad gimmick. I'm sure Spragles will have fun trying to make a gimmick deck out of it, though. As an aside I think there was mention of a new shiny-esque mark, but this one had the standard marking...I wonder if we might get shiny art rares? If you're going to do that for anyone, it should be the Red Gyarados.

An instagram ad showed off a Magby that accelerates fire, which goes with Pichu accelerating lightning. Getting those first turn could be real nice even if they give up an easy prize. Kind of hope Budew's eventual arrival will have grass accel; an easy donk that powers up Lusamine or the Beastite could be cool for Buzzwole. And grass has a fair few heavy eneryg attackers anyway. you know what would be REALLY nice is if Tyrogue had fighting energy acceleration aka the thing the deck desperately wants so so s os bad please give it something no passimian ex doesnt count.
From the blurry trailer people thought Cleffa was Shiinotic, but it "just" gets a Pokemon. Not a bad effect especially going first, but if you are first I do start thinking of how easy it might be to dead draw depending on the rest of your hand...but that's just how TCG goes.

Seeeeeems like there's a Porygon2 that can instantly evolve into Z if you attach an energy to it, kind of interesting. And the new Z adds an extra energy cost which is....probably not worth running but will be mildly annoying against the CPU I'm sure.

A lot of the other cards are way too blurry to read anything on so I think we should all just wait and see on those. And the other cards we've already talked about or are just usual filler

"Man, I really wish they would print new Vulpix and Ninetales cards for more Blaine options. An attacking Vulpix in particular would make for an interesting decision to make vs Tail Whip stall."

"Yeah man we got you, we made new Vulpix and Ninetales cards and they're both dogshit."
