A to B- (-2)
whoops yeah B+ LOL thanksApologies for the one-liner, but you mean B+, right? Because Weavile dropping to B- is fucking CRAZY if true.
Why exactly did Pech fall? Just by looking at some of the main rises (namely dnite and woger) wouldn't it actually get better if anything?A+ to A
As a vr council member who voted for it to drop, there are 3 main reasonsWhy exactly did Pech fall? Just by looking at some of the main rises (namely dnite and woger) wouldn't it actually get better if anything?
What are mew’s main sets in OU ?Hello I am here to do the VR update post, but first we have a few new additions to the VR council team. I am bad at these things so I am gonna lean into that.
Ewin great tournament player of multiple gens and has multiple cool urshifu custom avatars
Pinkacross Legendary team builder and is for some reason using toxicroak on ladder during OLT and is by some miracle consistently 2000's+
Pinecoishot WCOP player and ladder grinder, if you saw that 1 emboar replay... that was him
We will continue to try to expand the roster in the coming months as well : DDDD
Ok now for the real thing, the VR update!

Major Shifts
S- to S (+1)
Despite being 1 tier rise, Dragonite's rise to fame post Roaring Moon ban has been quite impactful. I won't linger too long here but Dragonite is just the perfect bulky attacker, it has the set variety to conform to whatever a team needs and it's quite deadly too. Predicting the Dragonite set is often mandatory as being behind in turns against a Dragonite especially in the late game can end in disaster, but Dragonite isn't just good in the late game but also in the mid game answering things like Ogerpon-Wellspring. Teams have gotten better at slotting it, players have gotten more creative utilizing Tera with Dragonite and other items or moves like Leftovers fat Dragon Dance sets, or even Choice Band being used more on offense by me and Bloody, and it honestly looks like Dragonite can only get better from here even with it already being S rank.
A+ to S- (+1)
Ogerpon-W was very close to rising last slate to S- but it just barely didn't make it, but at this point it's very clear that Ogerpon-Wellspring is an extremely meta defining Pokemon. It's ability to force progress is unrivaled like anything in the tier beyond niche cases like Sun Boosted Walking Wake, as Ogerpon-W doesn't need anything to get going due to its immediate power from high base power moves along with the 1.2x boost from the Wellspring Mask. What really helped Ogerpon become better though is again set creativity much like Dragonite, we've started seeing an increase of players using bulky Ogerpon-Wellspring with Trailblaze and Swords Dance, or Taunt Ogerpon-Wellspring to 6-0 stall, or Screens/Veil + Ogerpon-Wellspring which is as terrifying as it sounds. One of my favorite use cases of Screens/Veil + Ogerpon-Wellspring was vert's team that used Substitute Ogerpon-Wellspring, as with Screens/Veil + Tera Special Defense Boost it's very VERY difficult to break through the substitute. Ogerpon-Wellspring is becoming better as time goes on at forcing progress, sweeping, and even keeping longevity, something people thought was a major issue for it, with more use of Synthesis and Horn Leech to help.
S- to A+ (-1)
Gliscor lately has been seeing a downtrend primarily with offensive teams becoming far better at breaking fat balance and stall archetypes which is primarily where Gliscor is used. Not too much to be stated here, Ogerpon-Wellspring improving also bothers Gliscor but Gliscor isn't exactly too hard pressed about Woger due to emergency Tera's + Toxic, Spikes pressure, or just teammates handling it. Tornadus-Therian is another Pokemon thats gotten better that really abuses Gliscor with Taunt or strong Nasty Plot boosted attacks.
A- to A+ (+2)
Deoxys-Speed is incredible, it gives an immediate presence of speed and can offer incredible hazard utility or incredible offensive pressure. Nasty Plot Deoxys-Speed doesn't really have defensive counters, and unless you have Hatterene then hazards Deoxys-Speed is nearly impossible to deny. Not much to be said here it's kind of done the same thing it always has but people are only just now realizing how effective it truly is, some set experimentation has also helped with substitute leftovers Nasty Plot sets becoming more common or even Tera Psychic to net even more OHKO's with Psycho Boost.
B+ to A (+2)
I will forever say that I predicted this, I was actually gonna vote Tornadus-Therian to A last slate but I got convinced out of it and it is A rank for the literal exact reasons I said. Tornadus-Therian like Deoxys-Speed, also has no counters! Realizing a trend here? Anyways Nasty Plot sets just have a nasty offensive profile, and the coverage is very difficult to manage. Theres Nasty Plot Knock Off sets that obliterate stall with hazard support, there's Nasty Plot 3 attacks that can use Grass Knot as third coverage to hit Garganacl and theres even Dark Pulse sets that are popping up, and even non offensive sets like Assault Vest or Taunt Heavy Duty Boots have fully picked up as the utility it serves and ease of pivoting is incredible.

A to B+ (-2)
These two pokemon have definitely dropped the ball as of recent. Tinkaton just is a very underwhelming Pokemon, it's goal is to get up rocks consistently and help to keep them up but there's a lot of ways you can do that with a higher value Pokemon like Deoxys-Speed or Ting-Lu. As more and more teams get pressed for slots with this meta becoming more offensively threatening and creative over time, people are just choosing to slot other Pokemon over Tinkaton. It also doesn't help that the team archetypes Tinkaton was commonly used have dropped in usage significantly.
Much like Tinkaton, Weavile was also used on those more defensive balance teams that have just gone out of style due to meta pressures, and Weavile in general has lost value ever since Roaring Moons ban. In addition Triple Axel has probably just made people quit the game, or at least quit using Weavile so there's that.
B- to B+ (+2)
This Pokemon has had a meteoric rise and it's another sign that offensive creativity is becoming more and more impactful. People have learned that Ceruledge, like a few others, has no counters unless you have Garganacl for non Close Combat sets and for Close Combat sets you need the right Pokemon for either non Shadow Sneak, or non Poltergeist. It's set variety goes a step further with bulky Bulk Up sets, used commonly on Screens/Veil teams and both the Swords Dance and Bulk Up sets are just incredible win conditions and there's really not much else to say?
There's more interesting things like Tyranitar and Excadrills rise in viability especially during OLT, or drops like Pecharunt and Samurott-Hisui but I have worked on this VR slate for well over the past 8 hours in the last 24 hours and I'd like to use my off day from work a little better. On a side note you may have noticed something, "where's D rank?". Short story made long, much of the OU room/forum contributors and VR council found D rank to not contain 'viable' and was actually harmful as newer players may think something like whimsicott or Bellibolt are viable in a general sense. A private vote was held on removing D rank and it was a unanimous decision to remove D rank. Sorry Bellibolt. Hope you guys enjoy the update!
okay... sure, but neither of those mons does what pech does (being an ACTUAL ogerpon answer) which is having a great physically defensive backbone. As a vr council member who voted for it to drop, there are 3 main reasons
1: Gholdengo is better rn and directly competes with Pecharunt
2: Slowking is better rn and directly competes with pecharunt
3: Meta adaptations like Clam Treads and Scizor (there's more but those are 2 easy examples)
a mons place on the vr also doesnt mean much for the meta itself and ogerpon and dnite iirc were both a vote or two away from rising anyways last shift
That's why Pecharunt is in A rank! A lot of teams might prefer Pecharunt, but with the rise of the other respective Ghost and Poisons, as well as Dragonite being as easy to fit as it is now, Pecharunt is worse than it was the last time the VR was updatedokay... sure, but neither of those mons does what pech does (being an ACTUAL ogerpon answer) which is having a great physically defensive backbone.

Yes, the rise of dragonite is good for pecharunt. Thats why its A rank. But as avery stated, people have been teching for Pecharunt with stuff like Clam Treads (which can spin pretty easily on pecharunt), and its competition is getting better. A rank is still means its a top tier mon, but just that meta trends rn are not as favourable to pecharunt as they were when it was ranked A+.surely the rise of dragonite is better for pecharunt

If the most recent trends actually did matter this VR update like you just stated, how could y'all forget about rillaboom? You even linked arguably the best team right now which thrives off it's grassy terrain. I myself had been having succes with rilla since July https://www.smogon.com/forums/threa...n-on-grassy-terrain-bo.3767952/#post-10631942 And rn I see alot of new teams incorporating rilla's profile as a basis of theirs without even using grassy seed mons.![]()
Ttar and Sand as a whole has been finding some usage in OLT. For Ttar it is independent from Drill as a bulky wallbreaker that could check special threats such as Kyurem, most notably on this team made by xavgb. Excadrill isn’t great imo. Terrible vs Balances as its walled by a bunch of random shit in the builder, but it does snipe greedy offenses and Veil which have been frequent sights on the OLT ladder. Plus Sand is useful for breaking Dnite’s Multiscale.
Tran is just good at role compression, being a Steel with Rocks. Its also good at getting rocks up vs Hatt teams since it naturally 1v1s it, coupled with naturally solid matchups into Moth, Deoxys, Ceruledge, non-Ground move DD Kyu, and Gholdengo. Flame Body is also funny with Tera to punish Tusk/Zama/Gambit. It is awkward though, being a Steel that cannot swap into Kyurem (besides DD Tera Fire) whatsoever, and its vulnerable to spike stack, but it gets the job done.
p.s. Lava Plume is better, missing Magma Storm is ruinous in a tier as offensive and punishing as SV OU.
The problem with Bronzong is its extremely niche nature. Can someone explain why Bronzong was taken off the VR (as opposed to being raised to C-)? It's still one of the best defensive checks to Kyurem, so It remains a solid choice for many stall teams.
a lot of D tiers are just smth u may see it once and then never again, they were kinda bad so putting them on a tier list when it really isnt reliable at allCan someone explain why Bronzong was taken off the VR (as opposed to being raised to C-)?
