Pokémon Presents - Pokémon Day 2025 - Pokemon ZA Info & Pokemon Champions Announced

So based off the hint from the Japanese Tweet mentioning a Sweet Beckoning of sorts and purple splotches all over the place, I went to take a look at a bunch of Poison Type dex entries....and very surprisingly, very few poison types exist that have that kind of description. Salazzle is out because while hypnotic, the scent itself is too powerful naturally to be sweet. Venusaur line we already know of. Vileplume is focused on its pollen rather than its sweet smells. Which leaves us to our remaining Grass Poison types: Roserade and Vileplume. Vileplume explicitly attracts prey with its sweet scented acid while Roserade uses its floral scent to draw people in before using its poison laced thorns and petals to take down prey. Buuuut given how the first image had a hole seemingly eaten away by acid...it seems like Victreebel will be our mostly likely suspect this time around, assuming its a mega and not a surprise regional variant of something.

I still really wonder whether we'll get any of those at all. On the one hand, in a Kalos game featuring the bold return of Mega Evolution, it makes sense to focus all effort on those and make any and all new Pokémon forms Megas. On the other, Game Freak has rarely passed up on the opportunity to create entirely new 'mons for the dex either (they once denied ILCA that opportunity, but this game is their own work). I mean, even LGPE saw the debut of Meltan and Melmetal (and in a lesser example, Bonsly technically debuted in XD). And there are plenty of Pokémon that could do well with a snazzy new Kalosian form, maybe even a regional evolution if they're feeling generous.

If this teaser image culminates in a new Mega then at that point I'd be 99% confident that it really will just be those with no regional forms and such.

The real tip-off imo is how all the tie-in material (chiefly the TCG) is going "SO I HEARD YOU LIKE MEGA EVOLUTION REMEMBER MEGA EVOLUTION IT'S SO COOL AMIRITE". The "Mega" brand name for the physical game is the first time since HGSS we've gotten a mid-gen rebrand for the TCG to promote an old region revisit and it chooses to emphasize that mechanic above the LZA title. Evidently they must've been debriefed that there will be a surplus of new material to work with

Really hope whatever this reveal is that it's not Kanto stuff again. It's fine to have some Gen 1 pandering, but I'd prefer the love be spread around to other Generations. For instance, Gen 5 is still lacking Megas. Yes I will continue to shit on Mega Audino.
At the very least Naveem seems to be pointing to Mega Scrafty. Also Emboar, given the conditions I outlined in my reply to Codraroll hold

Personally I'm hoping for some new forms for Kalos & Alola. Gens 1 through 5 all have Megas and some have Regionals. Gen 8 at least has G-Max forms. Gen 9 is definitely too recent to be getting new forms. I think it'd do good to spice up Gens 6 and Gen 7 dexes a little (specially since Alola mons never had the chance to get Megas before)

Having said that tho I think its silly to complain about Kanto Pandering while also asking for Unova stuff. The past 2 gens have been pandering a ton to Unova to the point it feels only behind Kanto in terms of getting attention. All of this was added in just two gens:

And like Dramps said above, we will likely get Mega Emboar and Mega Scrafty if characters are anything to go by. Personally I'd be alright if those are the only new Unova megas

Listen I'm just extremely salty about Mega Audino specifically lol. I'd be fine with anything other than Kanto as a baseline, I just have a preference.

Honestly I'm leaning more to Mega Arbok. It's poison and is the ace of the newest crime boss. Sweet scents I could see the mega energy granting a new ability to lure prey, and using something like poison fangs to chew through things. Or Mega Meganium granting poison type and the sweet scent carried over to poison, although so many of us hoped it would be grass/fairy and GF not enjoying going with popular fan wishes.

We have no idea if thats the ace and not just one of the mons he uses. Also, a snake known for its patterns suddenly getting the ability to use scents for predation when they are known active hunters seems like too much of a leap. I also dont think there are any hints to a grass poison shift from what weve seen of the chikorita line, but i guess we'll see.

Looks like in a different but similar way to Arceus, Speed will be a powerful stat for how many times a Pokemon can act.

Since in Arceus it was a really strong stat since a fast Pokemon could move multiple times consecutively before the opponent could even get one chance to act.

Here, this is a real-time battle system, so this means a faster Pokemon will be able to fire multiple attacks at a faster pace.
