Pokémon Presents - Pokémon Day 2025 - Pokemon ZA Info & Pokemon Champions Announced

Mega Victreebell imo will always be that kind of pokemon that hits the sweet spot between "goofy/dumb" and "cool".

The goofy animations would look horrible on most other pokemon, but since the design is made specifically to marry them, it makes it adorable.
I want to hug it. No matter if it's lethal, i'll take the risk.
Hugging it would probably cause it to burst which it probably wouldn't like very much.

The two fighters in the arena in a fierce battle, each fighting to the best of their abilities. The two Pokémon matched in power, both go in for a finishing blow

The battle is interrupted. A heel enters the ring as the true new Mega is revealed

And his name is... InCENAroar!

I'm guessing Mega Incineroar becomes a face and is now Fire/Fighting.
Tbh Terastal Shedinja is in fact something that will be possible.
They could just make it so "Pokémon with Wonder Guard cannot Terastallize" and leave it at that to avoid tempting people to do silly things with Shedinja. But silly things are funny, so hopefully they won't do that.

Actually I'm more imagining it causing acidic poison to overflow, like squeezing a soda bottle, replacing whoever is squeezing it with a burned skeleton wrapped around it.
Acidic poison? Skeleton? Wait... Sorry for referencing this, but is there Rick and Morty fan art with Mega Victreebel? It's the Pokemon version of the vat of acid from The Vat of Acid Episode!

And I thought it was hard to take seriously when it made me think of a loot bag...

This is just me going off on one so feel free to disregard this as some guy rambling, but in general I’m highly skeptical of the idea that Gigantamax designs would work as Megas, because so many of them are carried by the fact that they’re ostentatiously BIG. A few of them could maybe work, but I actually don’t think G-Max Machamp is one of them, because it doesn’t really change much of significance about Machamp’s design; it mainly just gives it glowing fists (and, uh… pants, I guess). Even compared to some of the less radical Megas, I feel like that would seem jarringly undercooked. Whereas being a towering giant changes the focus to be more about its imposing size.
I mean you could still have it be big without being GMax big as a Mega. Mega Victreebel jumps up to 14 feet.

They could just make it so "Pokémon with Wonder Guard cannot Terastallize"

I can see them doing three things:

1. Wonder Guard simply turns off when the user Terastallizes.
2. Wonder Guard makes it so only the users original weaknesses cause it damage.

Now the above 2 kind of makes Terastallizing a Wonder Guard Pokemon pointless. BUT then there's:

3. If a Pokemon with Wonder Guard Terastallizes into a Type it wasn't originally, it'll actually be treated as if it was its original Type(s) and the Tera Type.

So, in Shedinja's case, while there would be no change to what could hit it if it was Tera Bug or Tera Ghost, for the other Types only the following could hit it:

Bug/Ghost (5): Flying, Rock, Ghost, Fire, & Dark
+Normal (4): Flying, Rock, Fire, & Dark (loses Ghost)
+Fighting (5): Flying, Ghost, Fire, Psychic & Fairy (loses Rock & Dark)
+Flying (7): Flying, Rock, Ghost, Fire, Dark, Electric & Ice
+Poison (6): Flying, Rock, Ghost, Fire, Dark & Psychic
+Ground (6): Flying, Ghost, Fire, Dark, Water & Ice (loses Rock)
+Rock (5): Rock, Ghost, Dark, Water & Steel (loses Flying & Fire)
+Steel (3): Ghost, Fire, Dark (loses Flying & Rock)
+Fire (5): Flying, Rock, Ghost, Dark & Water (loses Fire)
+Water (6): Flying, Rock, Ghost, Fire, Dark & Electric
+Grass (6): Flying, Rock, Ghost, Fire, Dark & Ice
+Electric (4): Rock, Ghost, Fire, Dark (loses Flying)
+Psychic (5): Flying, Rock, Ghost, Fire, Dark
+Ice (6): Flying, Rock, Ghost, Fire, Dark & Steel
+Dragon (7): Flying, Rock, Ghost, Dark, Ice, Dragon & Fairy (loses Fire)
+Dark (4): Flying, Rock, Fire & Fairy (loses Ghost & Dark)
+Fairy (5): Flying, Rock, Ghost, Fire & Steel (loses Dark)

So, if I did that all right, we create quite the interesting list of options.

* Not surprisingly, Steel is the best knocking it down to just 3 of its original weaknesses with Fire and maybe Dark being the most threatening thing to it. PLUS Steel gives it immunity to Sandstorm and Poisoning.
* Normal, Electric & Dark knocks it down to 4. Normal and Electric simply removes one weakness while Dark takes two but adds one of its own. Of the three I'd say Electric is the best as it not only takes away but also gives immunity to Paralysis. I'd argue Dark is probably the worst as, while it changes the Types up a bit more, it adds Fairy which is more common. Normal's loss of Ghost is nice but it's an uncommon Type so situationally nice.
* Fighting, Rock, Fire & Fairy makes things interesting by having the same amount of weaknesses, though it's not always beneficial. Fairy swaps one for one, though it's for the somewhat common Dark for the least common Steel, making it the best here. Rock also adds Steel, but also the common Water, but removing Fire and Flying makes it comes out about equal I say. Fire less so, think Water immunity is more wanted than Fire, even with the added Burn immunity. And then there's Fighting, ugh, gaining Psychic & Fairy for Rock & Dark was not a good exchange; maybe good for the initial trip up, but afterwards makes it feel more vulnerable.
* Psychic offers no changes, lol.
* I commend Ground for trying, but not only is one-for-two still not good it's also of more common Types.
* Poison, Water, Grass & Ice offer nothing but more trouble; I guess at least Poison offers immunity to Poisoning and Grass to Powder & Spore Moves...
* Dragon... I'd say I'd also commend Dragon for trying, but did it? Like is the loss of Fire really throwing anyone for a loop, especially when it now has weakness to common Fairy and Ice? This is one case where adding Dragon isn't helpful.
* Go home Flying.

imo the mostly likely outcome with Wonder Guard + Tera is that they won't deal with it and have Shedinja rotated out during Tera seasons. Shedinja's complete absence in Gen 9 feels very deliberate.

Yeah, people forget RBY was released almost thirty years ago. There are kids who played it on release who already have grandchildren. The average Pokémon player started in, like, gen 7 lmao, to them everything is an Alolamon.
Implying those nerds who played Gen 1 at an age where they can have grandkids now also somehow got laid.

Just because I'm old doesn't mean I don't get some fun trolling people on the internet. If anything it's get funnier the older you get.

Bro, from a 30-something to another: you are trolling kids. There's a reason everyone finds you annoying with that attitude, and it's not because it's funny.

Like, if you want to scratch that itch that much, at least go troll in Bluesky, everyone's 38yo there.

Man I still have a sliver of dignity left, bluesky is something I wouldn't touch with a 50 meter long pole and wouldn't wish on my worst enemy.
I just said about people need to stop listening to echo chambers and that is THE echo chamber.

Or..... they do nothing and let it be.
People oversell how strong it is in a world where there's much stronger shit running around, a bunch of Mold Breaker mons, a massive opportunity cost for even enabling the strat, and Dynamax on top of it providing almost any pokemon a way to bypass Wonder Guard with sand, on top of simply having the possibility to keep a Tera Stellar user in the pocket for such scenarios.

I'm trying to remember when they first revealed Hawlucha itself, I think I was 19? God I feel old. Crazy it's been like 12ish years since original Hawlucha and seeing its mega all those years later.

not to break up the festivities of trolling kids but they messed up again and revealed the mega before the official announcement through their Spanish channel

This is a fake leak from 4chan, they edited in the text and thumbnail over a slot that already has a different video in it on the real channel.

The video link is bait but the image used is the full resolution source.

True! But I still feel like there should be a few more physical changes.

I'm trying to remember when they first revealed Hawlucha itself, I think I was 19? God I feel old. Crazy it's been like 12ish years since original Hawlucha and seeing its mega all those years later.

I remember when pictures of Hawlucha leaked alongside, IIRC, Binacle and Greninja. People really didn’t believe them, or at least didn’t want to believe — saying, “If that’s Froakie’s final evo, where’d the bubble theme go?”, and trying to count the difference in feathers on the two pictures of Hawlucha to disprove it (it turned out the supposed discrepancy was just a perspective thing).

(Hey, funny enough, I was 19 at the time too.)

Going to throw around my favourite takes on both the new megas while we wait for the official reveal of the 3rd one

I do agree with both takes and also wish they went "further" with Mega Dragonite, if the entire point was to "reconnect with Dragonair", may as well go all the way. (This is often a vision that analyst shares with other Pokemon, where it feels they could have just committed to a design idea instead of leaving it "halfway")
And I still want to hug Mega Victreebell, I don't care of the implications or horrible death that may follow.
