Welcome to Smogon! Take a moment to read the Introduction to Smogon for a run-down on everything Smogon, and make sure you take some time to read the global rules.
I want to see shiny mega greninja since this one already is using the primary color. Think they make it white or do they do the thing of making it blue to match the regular coloring.
Tbh while I do kinda agree and still to this day think Fissure Machamp was never remotely considered as a issue (since again, it's not legal in VGC, and they never cared of online wifi balance since that didnt even have hack checks in place)...
I do wonder if the speculation that Champions/ZA actually *removing* IVs is correct.
IVs per se are pretty much a pointless mechanic, as they said in interviews the main reason they were kept hidden was cause they wanted to keep the pokemon different between each other but without giving a clear numeric indicator that turns the creatures into "just numbers" (even though in the end that's all they are).
While yes, you do lose some minor optimizations that are basically never relevant (like the 0 speed for TR* or 0 atk for foul play and confusion), I'm quite sure IVs being gone would not really be noticeable and just save the headache of bottle cap farming (plus reducing the already lacking necessity to hack mons)
* - Yes I am aware that a 0 speed will underspeed a non 0 IV, but all TR relevant mons do run 0 IVs anyway so..
Don't worry those are tecnically still possible by just using some skill swap shenenigans
.
I wonder if am I the only insane person who thinks IVs are an okay mechanic. The years of breeding mons in Gen IV just taught me 31/31/20+/x/20+/31 is good enough, and it does give mons "some" individuality.
everyone starts leaning forward when Hyperspace Lumiose is actually just ORAS' Mauville
the primals, ray, lati and hoenn starter megas shown off they're so read to holler
16 new megas and like 8 of them are from hoenn!!
That's right they're the long awaited megas for Delcatty, Wailord, Swalot, Zangoose, Seviper, Cacturne, Claydol & Deoxys.
Alternate proposal: Thus far the obvious fan request megas have all been flubbed/controversial for one reason or another, Dragonite because people don't like the design and the Kalos starters because of the stupid ranked battle thing. Logical followup is they make Mega Flygon but it sucks ass competitively, once again being a worse Garchomp
I'm pretty disappointed by the Kalos starter megas being walled off by ranked battles but since I don't do them very often, I'm curious-
1. How long do ranked seasons usually last?
2. Do you qualify for Mystery Gifts you get from them by just participating or do you need to actually do well?

I assume the ranked battle seasons last about a month; that's how SV handles their seasons.
The second is a rank up reward, not a participation reward. There's too many unknowns other than the battle club also does the 26 ranks thing the main game does for its story. It's possible it could be as simple as "winning a battle will move you from Z to Y rank" and "You get the mega stone for reaching Y Rank". It's also possible it could be a mid rank reward or that they take many battles

This was obviously a joke but after how much fanfare Punished Ingo got I would be surprised if they didn't do something like this for a returning XY character not in the base game. If there are, like, Diantha missing posters around Lumiose visibly weathered by age...
What if all the talk in the game about Professor Sycamore retiring is actually just a cover-up story to hide the fact that he disappeared into the Mega Dimension?
Also wonder if they would ever consider buffing base Pikachu or even Light ball. Obviously this Raichu attention is awesome, but does this mean the mascot is so outclassed its even worse to not evolve Pikachu nowadays? Even making Pikachu base 100 speed would be nice, or having Light Ball also give it a speed boost too. Or are we truly moving past the Ash-era where we can say "eh its just a Pikachu. Not a Raichu bleh"
Yeah Pikachu has been outclassed for years even with Light ball, but I do wonder if they would give their mascot a buff if Raichu got two big ones.
Again? Unless you're counting Alolan Raichu (though I feel Regional Variants may as well be their own Pokemon), it's more this time Raichu gets something over Pikachu. End of sentence.
What an absolutely fascinating two-word combination "Hyperspace Lumiose" is. So many questions raised. What would such a place look like? What Pokemon reside there? What people reside there? Why did Hoopa deem extradimensional city planning a valuable use of its time?
Specially considering Looker's relation to both the Ultra Wormholes and Emma herself, and Zygarde's ties to Alola (and how Guzzlord has paralels to Zygarde in the cave its found)
Would be cool if it was like a Ultra Megalopolis version of Lumiose City, like an extent group of Ultramegalopians created a city based around Lumiose City siphoning Mega Energy instead of Necrozma's light. Instread of the Prism Tower they have the Grism Tower.
This is just hitting me... Slowbro isn't the only Pokemon who has a Regional Variant and can Mega Evolve any more. Is Alolan Raichu going to get some of the Raichu love? It would be awesome if Regional Variants could use the same Mega Stones as the base Pokemon because that would mean 4 different Mega Raichus, but giving Raichu 2 Megas that look like Pikachu is making me think they forgot about Alolan Raichu.
As I've said above, honestly Regional Variants are essentially their own Pokemon even though they're considered a different "form". So no cross form Mega Evolution, at least between Regional Variants. Like I'd imagine a Regional Variant Mega Evo would get a Mega Stone marked with letter(s) for their region (Alolan will get A or Alo, Galar get G or Glr, Hisui get H or Hsu, & Paldea get P or Pld).
On a different note, I feel like the two Mega Raichu look a lot better with their tails swapped. I think its kinda cute how both of them kinda call back to Pikachu but i think they look a little clunky with thir design elements (namely the double tail and how the ear fluff clases with the actual pikachu-like ears)
So in that case, GF, I want you to go zany with the Shiny colors for the Mega. I want a bright green Greninja, cyan Delphox, and a royal purple Chesnaught.
The only reason day 1 DLC rubs me the wrong way is it feels like cut content from the main game.
Using oras by comparison, the game was $40 (iirc), hyperspace wormholes were part of the post game, mega charizard x/y and mega mewtwo x/y were obtainable or tradable from kalos, without the need for DLC.
DLC is supposed to expand a game after release with new content.... day 1 just include it as part of the game's release it serves no purpose to do that but to fuck with the subtotal cost lmfao. It feels either really insecure of the base game's success alone to push DLC content faster or really greedy.
Anyways personal mega tierlist;
1. Mega Malamar - ngl i never cared for malamar but the design and its mega design and animations unironically hypnotized me to look more at it and realize how much I overlooked it, I can't think of anything I'd change on the mega.
2. Mega Raichu X and Y - These I think will grow on me over time, X > Y fight me.
3. Mega Victreebel - Silly fella and I can't really imagine another way to design it. Glad it fixes the weird floating base victreebel does.
4. Mega Delphox - The beard will take getting used to since I've always seen it as a witch more than a wizard, but it is a neat design.
5. Mega Dragonite - I think they could've done more to dragonite, it just looks off with the wings. They could've at least color changed it to be like dragonair if that was their plan.
6. Mega Chesnaught - Honestly looks really good, just not a chesnaught fan personally.
7. Mega Hawlucha - if this was the fomo ranked mega instead of the starters I dont think the reaction would be nearly as bad, this feels like a cosmetic rather than a mega to me.
8. Mega Greninja - I get what they were going for, but if there were multiple concept art designs this I doubt would be first choice out of them, I also cant unsee greninja licking the fucking streets from the screenshot angles.
It looks like the official website says the DLC is available for pre-order already?
Can someone who has access to the eShop please check and see what the claimed release date for the DLC is? In the past, the eShop's placeholder dates have revealed tiny bits of info that the official website hasn't.
Like someone else said top right is definitely Victreebel, so I don’t think these are all DLC exclusive megas.
the pink one is probably clefable and one of the red ones on the left is probably pyroar
The black/red REALLY looks like Zoroark, or possibly Weavile. Also can’t see anything but Crabominable for the white/purple one on the bottom row.
It’s kind of hard to say for certain though since the colours will match the mega, not the base form. So if something has a more drastic change like Charizard X we’d have no idea.

I don’t think there’s anything to suggest this is day one DLC? I think it’s more likely that they’re announcing it now because ZA was delayed and they need to get the DLC out before Gen 10 is announced in February.

It has a general release of 16/10, because if you buy it things are applied in the base game, such as the clothing.
The story content has a placeholder of 28/02 which is just the end of the “winter” period.
It’s gonna be interesting for data mining purposes though, I wonder since it’s technically “released” that we’ll be able to see all the innards of it before the story content is added?

I think one of the problems with predicting new megas based off of the mega stones is that they use the color scheme of the mega, not the base pokemon. As an example, Chesnaught doesn't change color much at all so its mega stone looks identical but Greninja and Delphox mega stones have a different color scheme than their base forms. Some megas might have a wildly different color scheme that would be impossible to predict.
I'm personally hoping they will distribute the starter Mega Stones in the DLC at least. Would be really akward for them to be exclusive to PvP forever (specially considering we know for a fact Gen 10 is approaching - feels like it would be countrproductive to keep competitive rewards for Legends after Gen 10's competitive scene becomes the focus). I'm sure we'd be able to use them in Champions for free regardless but it'd be upsetting to lose thme in their home region's game

I think the tail swap works mostly because I find Raichu-X awkward as it stands. It supposedly focuses on its fists, but isn't in a position to use them without falling over. Standing on the tails would work for a specially-oriented form as a vantage point for ranged attacks, and I could accept that stance as a way to get some martial art vibes out of tail slam attacks, but it just seems counterproductive for punching.
yeah honestly if you had me guess which one was the physical attacker and which one was the special attacker I would've gotten it completely backwards.
As a rule, X megas go physical while Y megas go special, as seen on Charizard and Mewtwo (which is jarring as both Charizard and Mewtwo are special attackers at base, Raichu at least has equal physical and special attack).
All in all, I'm not too fond of having paired megas NGL; Charizard Y was introduced alongside Mega Venusaur and Mega Blastoise and fits with them, while Charizard X is just Charizard exceptionalism. The Mega Mewtwos both feel... incomplete I'd say? They didn't really felt as gamechanging as the Primals (or MegaRay, but that one should require helding a Jade Orb/Meteorite to begin comparing).
Having the same issue with Mega Raichu as with Mega Mewtwo, neither really clicks for me.
Hell, let's see by with some 10 minutes in MS Paint:
Then again, Mewtwo Y had the issue of not being too different from Life Orb Mewtwo, while Mewtwo X had a completely different playstyle. Same with the Megazards, played nothing alike each other (but those were both improvements over any base zard set).
