7-star Tera Raid Dragon Roaring Moon and Fairy Iron Valiant

IMG_2548.jpeg

Huh! Well if anyone would get the 7* treatment among the paradoxes these two makes sense.

Bit surprised we're doing them before finishing up all the pseudos though. Guess they want the mega-likes to be around in the lead up to Z-A

Hm, was hoping that these would still be 5* raids so that they could be shiny. Well, at least with the rest of the paradoxes available I can try to get shiny iron treads, which I missed the first time around.

Good to see renewing NSO briefly came with good timing because now I can dread trying to get the Roaring Moon clear with randos before moving on to try getting shiny Scarlet Paradoxes of the 5* raids. Welp, I better get ready renewing my Beast/Dream Ball stashes for this.

:Roaring-Moon:

I'm expecting Roaring Moon to have the moveset of Dragon Claw, Crunch, Iron Head and either Earthquake or Acrobatics for coverage. Sunny Day and Dragon Dance are likely to be included as the scripted moves.

Magearna with Draining Kiss and Iron Defense should be able to handle the solo for this. It can also use Snowscape to remove the Sun boost from Roaring Moon.

:Iron-Valiant:

Iron Valiant has such a diverse movepool of options on both physical and special side that predicting its set is going to be very difficult. Electric Terrain as a scripted move would make sense but beyond that we could see almost anything.

I could see Gholdendo, Klefki or many of the Acid Spray using Poison types useful here but it all depends on the coverage moves. Psychic and Fire Punch could certainly be likely choices so that Poison and Steel types wouldn't be as safe as you might think.

Really wish they'd just do cross-game appearances given the Paradoxes aren't 1-and-done Mons anyway. As is, I'll probably get like 1 of each for a High IV specimen and then not bother much outside maybe someone announcing they found a Shiny to share around

Eh being nothing special, I usually just get one for the sake of collecting the Mighty Marks, but that's about it.

No real benefit in grinding those.

Magearna could probably work for both bosses. Draining Kiss won't be super effective against Val, but its low SpDef should make up for it. Tera Fairy might actually be the play for Val because of that. Can Iron Defense and/or CM to withstand the mixed attacking storm.

:cloyster:
Cloyster @ Covert Cloak
Ability: Shell Armor
Tera Type: Water
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Chilling Water
- Helping Hand / Iron Defense
- Life Dew
- Snowscape

I probably won't be grinding this raid, either, but if I had to pick a randoms support for Roaring Moon, Cloyster might be it. Sky-high Defense, Shell Armor to prevent crits, Chilling Water to lower Attack, Life Dew to heal the party, and Snowscape to not only turn Protosynthesis off, but to boost your Defense by 50% while Snow is active. Iron Defense could be used to further boost your Defense, but Chilling Water + Snow should be enough, and imo Helping Hand is the less selfish option.

My last minute prediction is that I feel like they're going to double down with Spirit Break/Moonblast for the mixed tera STAB check as the strongest thing it can do, and maybe go Aura Sphere over Close Combat though Kommo-o is precedent for the latter. Also I think it would be nice to have a boosting raid boss that can't be Contrary Skill Swapped for once but that's just me. I think the TM drop would be one of the boosts either way though.

Apparently these are all shiny locked for some reason.

I expected the 7*s to be locked but the 5*s too when previous paradox raids didn't have this lock? Bruh

Also, made the mistake of trying iron val co-op and the thing will keep spamming Zen Headbutt if you want to use Poison-types to deal with stabs. Have fun with the flinching while I pray Tera Raid "Search" gives me a Roaring Moon to hop into

Apparently gamefreak may have also broke the raids in a way that you can't find the other version ones publicly??

7 stars are always shiny locked, it's just part of how they work.
The 5 stars are too, which is abnormal and what the quotes were talking about.

I've noticed that too, been sitting here refreshing :psygrump:
Apparently the raids also just don't let you join privately cross-versions either currently. What a mess.
(EDIT: It seems like you can do it locally though but not online.)

I guess it's on brand for the paradoxes to leave one last glitch in their wake before moving onto a new game.

If nothing else, at least this isn't the kind of raid bug scuff that crashes the game but uh guess I'll solo Iron Valiant while waiting for a hotfix. Here's hoping the shiny lock on the 5* ones aren't deliberate

EDIT: Got the clear with Metronome Draining Kiss Magearna. Thought a combo of Val's SpDef and Nature and Soul Heart potentially overriding spirit break drops but I only really beat it at last second bc of freeze rng coming in clutch. Spirit Break on double attack phase straight drops Mag even when I had rolled Intimidate companion. Yeah, I only went with bnuuy because I didn't want to math out a solution because Poison-types have to deal with Zen Headbutt flinch hax and Steel has to eat Aura Spheres.

Honestly now I'm just kind of wondering how they can fix that last one (if they will) because I imagine if they have to set a new ID for both of them, then you would be able to catch your native raid again if you already did it with the old ID? Who knows. I suppose it does the least harm to let you have two especially with how messed up these are, but still.

Roaring Moon was easy with Closyter. Really helped that I had the best possible team ever. My Cloyster, an Azumarill, a support Gouging Fire (finally, another one in the wild!) and Avalugg. Really easy clear.

Edit: Oh, you just can't catch both 7 stars. Wow. :fukyu:

Gamefreak's not having a good week, huh. First they mess up sign ups for the grand challenge by trying to run sign ups for the terastal crescendo at the same time, and now this.

Well, so much for shiny iron treads this time around.

Azumarill soloed Iron Valiant, as usual. I'm unable to do Roaring Moon in multiple ways, but in this case I'm glad I picked Violet 3 years ago because I figured Roaring Moon would be much more common Azumarill solo bait and I'm sure there's going to be plenty of representation there for the seven-star solo streak.

I went with tera Fairy for the Aura Sphere resistance, despite relying on Play Rough with a miss chance, since earlier attempts with Water tera did get hit hard by Aura Spheres in the lategame after the player stat reset. I suppose Fairy Tera Blast is always an accurate alternative but eh, Play Rough's power is nice. I went for Mud-Slap and Defense Curl as my utility options just to cover all incoming attacks as best I could, with more focus on the tera STAB.

I also locked in beneficial AI that I could base a gameplan around having, specifically Staraptor and Gardevoir for Intimidate and Life Dew healing respectively. Intimidate is very helpful in this battle for the stat swing as well as causing Quark Drive to boost Speed instead of Attack T0.

My strategy was to Belly Drum T1 to go down to red HP after taking a Spirit Break, then purposefully set an offense cheer and faint to preserve both cheers with the AI defense cheer, while also draining enough time to bait the first debuff reset. Then I set one Defense Curl and 3 Mud-Slaps to tera charge before Belly Drumming and going on the offense with Play Rough (missed one). Notably Iron Valiant did switch to Shadow Balls after its attack was low enough, but fortunately I was dodging enough to avoid dealing with potential SpD drops. I set up the same stuff after the player stat reset and kept going from there (also missed one here). Iron Valiant did almost get me near the end with it surviving in the red and hitting a raw +2 Spirit Break into a double attack Shadow Ball, but fortunately I had my Shell Bell healing in between and a Life Dew incoming to get me back to full.

Overall this mixed offense was enough trouble in the day to deal with that I'm glad I physically cannot play or solo the Roaring Moon raid for now.

Not good to hear about being unable to catch both. I was just about to try my hand at my own game's Roaring Moon but I guess I'll wait instead to see if GameFreak fixes the event soon.

There is some doomposting about this actually being intentional, based on the wording of this event now specifically differing from the past paradox events in that it does NOT encourage you to join other game versions.

Roaring Moon/Iron Valiant:
https://sv-news.pokemon.co.jp/en/page/391.html
During this event, other species of version-exclusive Paradox Pokémon will appear in 5-star Tera Raid Battles. These Paradox Pokémon will have various Tera Types, so prepare wisely before challenging them!

Walking Wake/Iron Leaves:
https://sv-news.pokemon.co.jp/en/page/312.html
These Paradox Pokémon cannot normally be encountered in Paldea. The Walking Wake appearing during this event has Water as its Tera Type, and the Iron Leaves appearing during this event has Psychic as its Tera Type. Try joining Tera Raid Battles hosted by Trainers playing the other version of the game to help complete your Paradox Pokémon collection!

Just a very baffling and disappointing decision by all means to subvert an established pattern for no good reason if so.
