SPOILERS! Legends ZA Data Dumps - Adding Info to OP

They broke my sis' Darkrai's legs and made her bulky..
Exactly what the doctor ordered, a bulky stallbreaker who can spam spread hypnosis while also dealing damage to pokemon asleep
Tatsugiri curly: water/dragon
Tatsugiri droopy: water/dragon
Tatsugiri stretchy: electric/dragon
Tatsugiri curly would be dragon/water, just to further add to the obnoxious part.
Heat and Dark both get an increase to a stat they don't use which people will no doubt be mad about
Eh, normally I'd agree, but those Pokemon have already high enough base stats where even uninvested things hurt.
Take Darkrai. Sure it's obviously a special attacker, but stab Knock Off coming off 120 attack will *still* hurt.
Similarly, Zeraora will remain a strong physical attacker, but boi those Volt Switch will hurt as well.

Being able to have some kind of threat from the other offensive spectrum can actually be useful when stats become high enough to do a dent. After all, we've seen Garchomp drop Draco Meteors and Fire Blast uninvested just to catch up wannabe physical walls that get smashed by special coverage, and I think we're in the same category if not better here.

I'd better write this post before more stuff gets datamined and ruins my jokes:

Here is my predicted list of the types of the DLC megas, assuming that GF wants to maximally upset the fanbase.

Chimecho: psychic/flying
Absol: dark/flying
Staraptor: fire/flying
Garchomp: ground/dragon
Lucario: fighting/electric
Heatran: fire
Darkrai: dark/water
Golurk: rock/ground
Meowstic: psychic/dark
Crabominable: ice
Golisopod: bug/flying
Magearna: steel
Magearna original color: fairy
Zeraora: electric
Scovillian: a morpeko thing where it switches between pure grass and pure fire
Glimmora: poison/grass
Tatsugiri curly: water/dragon
Tatsugiri droopy: water/dragon
Tatsugiri stretchy: electric/dragon
Baxcalibur: water/dragon
Goodra will never recover

So my issue with the Darkrai Mega's concept/rework is that it breaks its dynamic with Cresselia, not simply the "Mega/No Mega" disparity, but in how their stats reflected each other.

Original Darkrai had a bunch of disruptive utility moves and an attacker stat spread with mediocre bulk (relative to its raw BST), while Cresselia was a very defensive support mon as its opposite. Mega Darkrai doesn't really capitalize on its strengths or ideas so much as just make it "Cresselia but it hits back" given the speed drop. Before there was a basic idea that Cresselia was defensive and would stall out Darkrai without hitting back too hard (given Dark/Psychic immunity while Cress was recovering off damage), hence the ongoing "Darkrai causes a nightmare, Cresselia wakes the victim" lore. Now Darkrai just hits things and won't leave while Cresselia is food for it.

To top it off, the Mega Dex entry, if it's a face value thing and not a case of "kids wrote this vs actual lore," explicitly calling it an "evil eye" does away with the interesting idea that Darkrai is a secluded and non-malicious danger.

I have a few things I wanted to mention about the datamines that I thought about over the past two weeks. And by “things”, I mainly mean the Pokémon themselves for the sake of this post.

:XY/heatran:

You’ve got to be kidding me. It wasn’t enough that they got rid of event moves starting in the Switch era. Now they’re giving this thing 45 more points in Special Attack and some other nice boosts at the cost of 10 points of base Speed. Let me say that again: +45 Special Attack at the cost of Speed. They’re actually just screwing with me at this point. If you know, you know. Personal beef aside, this feels like it could be a Mega Camerupt 2.0 in a weird sort of way. We’ll have to see if Heatran actually ends up using that Attack it’s also getting or if it’s just going to run bulky special sets.

:XY/darkrai:

What we’re getting here is… fine, I guess, it’s not what I expected, but I like my idea better. When I first heard about Mega Darkrai, my immediate first thought was “the only change they should give it is giving it back pre-nerf Dark Void”. Aaaand then the realization hit me. At least in Legends ZA specifically, Dark Void’s going to be absolutely cracked.

:sm/magearna:

FINALLY, Game Freak adds Magearna into a Kalos Pokémon game as God intended. I’ve been waiting almost nine years for this. One of my favorite archetypes in Pokémon is the “cross-generational promotion” style. Think things like Lugia, Latias and Latios, Lucario, Zoroark… Haxorus of all things? Stuff that’s either designed before or shown off before the generation it’s being released in. Magearna is unique among that crowd of Pokémon in that not only does it make sense for Magearna to be in Kalos in some capacity, but I’m almost certain it was originally going to be. Gen 7’s Mythicals were famously the subject of a lot of swapping around, and while I doubt we’ll get a true answer on if Magearna was meant for Pokémon Z like I thought it might have been back in 2016, Magearna’s return in Lumiose City specifically gives me “3DS Era Power Plant Theory” vibes and I am all for it. …just for them to inevitably mess this up anyway. sigh

:XY/kyogre: :XY/groudon: :XY/rayquaza:

These three’s inclusion fascinates me for a reason completely unrelated to Kalos itself. Eagle eyed fans may have noticed that, during Gen 6’s active lifespan, we actually spent more time in Hoenn (two years) than we did in Kalos (one year). Oops. The idea that theirs and Hoopa’s inclusion is almost certainly ORAS inspired is not lost on me. What is interesting is what this might mean for a future Hoenn game, assuming we even get one on the Switch 2. On one hand, if this is meant to be similar to a “Legends Hoenn” game, that would decrease the odds of, say, a Jirachi or a Deoxys themed game later, but on the other hand, Deoxys was already featured in ORAS anyway, and I don’t remember if either of those two were in the leaks after the mascot Legendaries, but it would feel incredibly strange to feature these three and not Deoxys for whatever reason. In any case, Rayquaza and the Primals still interest me regardless of when and what the next Hoenn game could be if only for the fact that I’m interested to see how their Abilities are handled in this DLC.

:XY/chimecho:

Oh, f*** yes. I love seeing the little guys get some love. You just know this thing’s about to go crazy too. I don’t think Mega Chimecho is going to be Psychic/Fairy simply due to clashing with Gardevoir if that were the case, but there a number of different ways they could go depending on the typing and Ability this gets. Anything is better than how Chimecho was on release- hidden away as a rare spawn in only one area of the game, with only a couple Gym trainers even letting you know “Hey, Chimecho exists”. Hoenn had a record breaking TWENTY Psychic-Types added, and out of the remaining ones that hadn’t got anything yet, I’d argue this and Grumpig need buffs the most.

maybe the mega turning it into an eclipse made it evil

If Mega Darkrai is eclipse themed, I could see them trying to fuse Darkrai and Cresselia's roles together as an intentional gameplay design choice. They individually represent the new moon and the full moon in addition to the good/bad dreams thing, so GF might be effectively combining them with the reasoning that an eclipse is sort of like both of those moon phases at the same time.

That concept would work a lot better if it was like, a 3rd pokemon or a fused form instead of a mega for just Darkrai, though. Or if they had a solar eclipse Darkrai mega and a lunar eclipse Cresselia mega.

Some random account on twitter posted these two images depicting actual battles against Jett and Mable. It's being presumed this is Mega Dimension content, but of course nobody knows if these are real

I'm personally hoping they are because HAHA YES MABLE WITH MEGA HOUNDOOM FINALLYYYYYYYY

As far as these things go this is probably the easiest thing to fake (didn't we get similar fakes to this before)

But I could believe it. Getting to face the handful of characters you didn't fight before feels about right.

How in the heavens are we getting these again? I thought the DLC didn't even have a release date
The tera leak had an earlier build of Z-A, which had at least data on zera ora, heatran & darkrai. Which makes sense, they had the most remnants in the base game so probably had early work done on them already.

These two supposed photos, who knows. I think if the DLC had playable stuff we'd have already had the raichus and such.
Guess that could be a seaparate build unrelated to the terak leak.

...is Diantha really called Cliantha in the code?
No relation.

Cliantha is a Furisode Girl that used to be in Sushi High Roller in XY (and has the same names in both games in other languages, like Farrah in French) but apparently hasn't been sighted in Z-A proper (just based on looking up her name online and getting nothing else).
https://abcboy101.github.io/poke-corpus/#id=za.trname.sub_084 shows her entry with corresponding names in all languages.

Well, judging by Mega Darkrai and Mega Heatran's beta statlines, nobody will be using them in OU over the regular version unless they get broken Abilities. Mega Zeraora's viability will depend on its movepool in Gen 10.

I do wonder what they’ll give because there’s a lot they could do to make it better because it’s so weak.

Min-max like Beedrill?
Give it a powerful or unique ability like Mawile?
Just give it plus 20 to each stat like Pyroar?

Personally I speculate a tanky stat line with high special attack, with either a sound focused ability to spam Psychic Noise and the like, or a Special equivalent to Huge Power.

Though tbh, I’d rather gotten a new Evolution instead

I remember how I saw a chimecho wind chime on SV's DLC trailer and got hyped for a chimecho evo. But no, we just got an edgy new ursaluna form (and dipplin but I already knew of and really like them so they're fine). Man...

At least they WILL get a bone this gen, one way or another!

I forgot that Chimecho was the recipient of one of the larger stat buffs, they gave it +10 in HP, Defense, and Special Defense in Gen 7

its a good thing they did because a mega off of 425 is a lot harder than 455 lol

I was going to suggest 75/130/90/45/110/105 (0/+80/+10/-50/+20/+40) with Wind Rider but brother its physical movepool is certified ASS. Even the special movepool isn't really that great, I don't know what they're going to do with it lmao.

There was very little DLC stuff in the teraleak itself, so anything new leaking, including screenshots are probably either.. not real or misunderstood.. and since a DLC can't really "leak" (to my knowledge) without it being released, I don't see any of this being correct.

(Although hyperspace Lumiose instead having the good guys be villains wouldn't be a shock)

they gave starmie some new physical moves and presumably it is going to get even more in Champions

so with chimecho they can just give it a bunch of new moves, nothing really stopping them from doing it.

granted at this point we have no idea if zeraora, heatran, and darkrai are actually going to be in the dlc or in an update before it, given their stones were in the base game's code, and we have the beta build stats for them
