any info floating around about registeel EVs/sets. There's no regi samples and the onsite analysis was written by aldaron

The best way to EV Registeel is with a specially defensive spread with Calm if you don't use any physical attacking moves, Careful if you aren't using a special move like Zap Cannon and have a physical move such as Explosion, or Sassy if you are using a special move + a physical move like Explosion.

Some viable moves on Registeel include Seismic Toss, Stealth Rock, Thunder Wave, Toxic, Protect, Counter, Explosion, Zap Cannon, and occasionally a coverage move such as Hidden Power Ghost/Thunderbolt/Shadow Claw/Earthquake/Ice Punch. It's usually less common for Registeel to use a coverage move. People more commonly use more utility orientated moves on Registeel to better take advantage of its ridiculous bulk and to help differentiate it from Jirachi. I don't use Zap Cannon, but other players like it and have had success with it.

As for a good EV spread, you want to maximize HP, hit a jump point in special defense, and put the rest of the EVs in defense. Attack EVs on Registeel aren't necessary unless you are trying to do something specific with the EVs.

Some example EV spreads with a Calm/Careful/Sassy nature include 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD, 252 HP / 40 Def / 216 SpD, 252 HP / 80 Def / 176 SpD, 252 HP / 120 Def / 136 SpD, 252 HP / 160 Def / 96 SpD, and 252 HP / 200 Def / 56 SpD.

The spread you use depends on how well you want Registeel to tank special attacks or physical attacks. It depends on what your team needs.

To add on to this, PDC ran 24 Spe evs on his Regi, allowing it to outrun Tank Pert. Regi is almost as fast as 0 Spe Blis, so you could give it some Spe to creep it.

This might be a stupid question, but if you're not allowed to ask why something is/isn't banned outside suspect test threads, and if you're not allowed to start threads that are questions, where do you put them?

How long do replays last before they expire from pokemonshowdown main ladder? I noticed some of the older ones have expired but one I have from a couple years ago is still viewable and hope it doesn't expire.

Replays that were saved years ago don't expire. What I assume you're referring to is in 2022-2023 replays, where something unfortunate happened to Smogon's database that ended up destroying a lot of showdown(not including smogtours) replays around that period. You can see the "featured replays" that they have replays back in 2014, so you won't see showdown replays gone unless showdown itself ceases to exist or there's another accident like the last one.

Thanks, this is a replay that didn't expire for me:

(Thu Oct 24 2024)

But here's one that did:

(From a post I made on Jul 4 2023)

So I guess the second one was from around that database corruption period

Just wondering if the sleep ban is still up because my Gen 4 OU team specifically the one I have with Yawn Vaporeon isn't validating. I tried swapping a mon and choosing another sleep inducing move and it still fails to validate due to the sleep clause. From what I have seen thus far is that sleep inducing moves were banned in Gen 5 OU and Gen 2 OU if you had Mean Look or Spider Web along with a sleep move. Beneath all this it was stated "These rules now apply formally to subforum tournaments where applicable, with discretion by the TD team."
I'm just wondering if these would apply to ALL Generations? If not why isn't my team validating with any sleep inducing moves?

Sleep inducing moves were banned in gen 4 OU in early january after a suspect test. It is independent from others generations bans (sleep *clause* is what applies to all generations, which allow only 1 Pokemon to be put to sleep at once). You can read the details in this post: https://www.smogon.com/forums/threads/dpp-ou-sleep-suspect-test-sleep-banned.3775522/
Main reason was that most of Breloom's spore answers were either pursuit weak (latias) or stealth rock weak (zapdos, gyarados), so it was basically impossible to reliably check spore and you just had to sack one of your Pokemons to it. Measures like sleep talk or lum were unreliable too.

hello everybody, i initially posted this in the rate my team forum and was redirected here. I want advice from people who actually know what they're talking about. to summarize my quarrel, i have a ttar in platinum that i ev trained to be scarfed and didn't realize pursuit was a breeding move, so i'm stuck with a 4 attacks scarf ttar. i've been thinking over for some time what kind of teammates should support this fella ( affectionately named emo ). he's running crunch/eq/superpower/stone edge and everything else about him's standard. i was thinking teammates like dragonite with lefties and mag support couldn't hurt but other than that i'm kinda stumped. please if this isn't the right spot for this sorta thing lmk where is. thanks in advance!

Do you plan on using this Tar for competitive play or in-game play?

competitive
Switching is such a big part of competitive singles so if I were you, I’d either breed a new Tar with Pursuit or use an app like PKSM to give the Tar you already have Pursuit. If you want to keep using the Tar you already have as a Scarf Tar, you could run Crunch, Stone Edge, Superpower, and Earthquake. If it has a Hasty nature because you were intending to run Ice Beam Scarf Tar, you could instead run a Mix Tar with Crunch, Fire Blast, Ice Beam, Superpower, and a resist berry of your choice.

it has 252 atk and 252 spe, a jolly nature and crunch/superpower/earthquake/stone edge. i've been using choice band snorlax on ladder to decent success with double edge/pursuit/earthquake/fire punch, 252hp/252+atk/-spa to compensate for the lack of pursuit tar and magnezone for the bulky steels. i've been going magnet rise lately but i see the merits of choice scarf and have used it before too. i may try breeding emo with a cranidos or something for pursuit tho and see how that goes :)
EDIT: been trying this team out;
Azelf @ Colbur Berry
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 8 HP / 248 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Taunt
- Explosion
- Fire Blast

Tyranitar @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Crunch
- Stone Edge
- Superpower
- Earthquake

Magneton @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Magnet Pull
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Naive Nature
- Thunderbolt
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Flash Cannon
- Explosion

Hippowdon @ Leftovers
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def
Impish Nature
- Earthquake
- Roar
- Slack Off
- Stealth Rock

Dragonite @ Life Orb
Ability: Inner Focus
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Rash Nature
- Draco Meteor
- Fire Blast
- Hidden Power [Grass]
- Superpower

Aerodactyl @ Choice Band
Ability: Rock Head
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Pursuit
- Crunch
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge

EDIT #2: will probably remove aero for pursuit metagross and either breed for a hasty ttar and give it crunch/fireblast/ib/superpower like recommended or just adjust the attack evs on current ttar for special attack evs for fblast and ib

With Scarf Tar, you usually only run 1 of the special attacking moves depending on what your team is weak too, e.g., Gliscor or Skarmory. Your team already has a lot of fire coverage and Mag, son don’t think FB on Tar is necessary. Eq can be nice to threaten Metagross, Jirachi, and to OHKO Heatran while you can use Superpower for Tar, Clef, Blis, and Dark resistant targets.

Not having Pursuit is a setback for Scarf Tyranitar.

If I was in your scenario and I couldn't run Pursuit on a Scarf Tyranitar, I would put Toxic or Stealth Rock in that moveslot instead. This way your Scarf Tar can still do something productive and impactful given the opportunity.

tragically i have no pokemon who can teach ttar pursuit :trode::worrycargo: would the play be to have scizor as a pursuit user and do something with ttar like the resist berry and coverage moves? i dont have immediate access to ddance. and to touch on what warped worlds said, would twave work as a replacement for pursuit on a scarf set? all thoughts are appreciated, especially with regards to teambuilding with my limitations being stuck to that of platinum. thanks!

If you’re playing on a DS or 3DS(I’m not 100% sure if this works on emulators), I have a Male Cranidos with Pursuit that I can trade to you later when I get back home. Here’s a guide on how to get access to the custom WFC server to do online trades https://kaeru.world/projects/wfc.

You can drop a trade request in the GTS or we can do a Trade as Friends if you want, whatever you prefer.

Edit: I looked into if this works on emulators and at the very least it works on MelonDS.

I want to get more into Ubers, however there isn't a ladder for it on showdown, any tips on how to play consistently in this tier?

I don’t have any tips but here are links to the DPP Ubers Hub, DPP Ubers Discord, as well as an article by Tbolt and oreo guy on Farceus if you’re interested in that.

Is there a list of everything that's been banned/unbanned in this tier over the years?

I understand things change, but there was never an issue with sleep, snow cloak, machamp etc. back in the day. Strange seeing so many things banned
