2x resists
electric
4x resists
grass

fire/poison

4x weaks
ground
2x weaks
psychic, rock, water
2x resist
fighting, poison, ice, fire
4x resists
bug, grass

fire/water
2x weaks
electric, ground, rock
2x resists
bug
4x resists
steel, fire, ice

despite the lack of resists (think forry), I like fire grass alot better, and the concept art of a pepper sounds cool ;D

fire poison would get my second vote but everyone would want to throw levitate on it f-f;

Yeaa Fire / Grass!! And haha, I completely forgot about the "Pepper implementation" possibility hahaha. That would be baller as hell.

Fire / Poison is meh for me though. I sure as hope no one would give it Levitate lol, that is too fanboy-esque. I actually like Fire / Normal more only because having a Lion Pokemon would be pretty awesome.

What do you think about Fire / Psychic, gorm? I don't really know about any advantages either type gives to the other, but the cool factor is just huge.

This leaves Grass, Water, Poison, Normal, Psychic, Electric as possible secondary types...all of which look potentially cool (besides Electric lol).
I don't know, I think Fire/Electric sounds cooler than Fire/Normal, but... *see below*

I dunno, I'm not really a fan of Fire / Electric; Electric only covers Fire's Water weakness, and Fire doesn't help Electric too much besides adding even more of a weakness to Ground.

Fire / Electric I guess is already done for us since Manectric could use an evolution, is an Electric and already learns Fire-type moves.
I agree with this statement. Electric doesn't remove any of Fire's weaknesses, but it does add a couple more resistances. If Manectric were to be used, he'd need an ability overhaul to replace Lightning Rod, and likely a movepool overhaul as well.

Resistance:
- x2 Bug
- x2 Electric
- x2 Fire
- x2 Flying
- x2 Grass
- x2 Ice
- x4 Steel

Weakness:
- x4 Ground
- x2 Rock
- x2 Water

Fire / Grass on the other hand seems really cool. Grass covers Fire's weaknesses perfectly in the offensively and only Rock is not made neutral defensively. Fire also helps Grass out offensively and defensively.

However, what "real-life representation" could a potential Grass / Fire have? I don't know of many Flaming Bushes.
I like both the Prairie Dog and Chili Pepper ideas. I've wanted a Prairie Dog Pokemon for years, and Fire/Grass actually works. Think "Brush fire", with Grass not specifically being grass but more of "nature", with fire being more "heat" than "flame". It would have orange tinted fur, with embers glistening off it's fur. It doesn't have that many resistances, and they're relatively less used types, but it's weaknesses are somewhat unused other than rock.

Resistance:
- x2 Electric
- x4 Grass
- x2 Steel

Weakness:
- x2 Flying
- x2 Poison
- x2 Rock

Think about this little guy (with the above description), running around in this:

Fire / Poison is done easily with some sort of Volcanic creature implementation, like an evolution for Torkoal or something to that extent.
Similar to Electric, doesn't really help it any. In fact, helps it even less, because the only thing Poison hits Super Effective is grass, which Fire already does. In fact... this could maybe be one of the worst typing combinations for fire.

Resistance:
- x4 Bug
- x2 Fighting
- x2 Fire
- x4 Grass
- x2 Ice
- x2 Poison
- x2 Steel

Weakness:
- x4 Ground
- x2 Psychic
- x2 Rock
- x2 Water

Fire / Normal could be that lion or Prairie dog that people are referring to, since a lot of animals in GF's game seem to be normal (Zangoose / Dodrio / Tauros / Miltank)
Doesn't change much for Fire, in fact only adds fighting weak and ghost immunity. It wouldn't be "bad", but it's not really helping anything either. I see what you mean about normal types being animals, but we do have others that aren't (Arcanine, Feraligatr, Infernape, etc).

Immunity:
- x0 Ghost

Resistance:
- x2 Bug
- x2 Fire
- x2 Grass
- x2 Ice
- x2 Steel

Weakness:
- x2 Fighting
- x2 Ground
- x2 Rock
- x2 Water

Fire / Psychic I'm not sure of either, but it definitely seems to have "cool" potential.
This is an interesting typing, and I figured before DP came out that Infernape would end up this way. Has a lot of weaknesses and resistances, but the weaknesses seem like more used types. Psychic does hit fighting Pokemon hard though, which is good.

Resistance:
- x2 Fighting
- x2 Fire
- x2 Grass
- x2 Ice
- x2 Psychic
- x2 Steel

Weakness:
- x2 Dark
- x2 Ghost
- x2 Ground
- x2 Rock
- x2 Water

Fire / Water is another weird one like Fire / Grass, but I really have no idea here.
Interesting spread here. This is my second favorite typing combination here, behind Fire/Grass. This one could be the "Steam", "Vapor", or "Mist" Pokemon.

Resistance:
- x2 Bug
- x4 Fire
- x4 Ice
- x4 Steel

Weakness:
- x2 Electric
- x2 Ground
- x2 Rock

Yea, I agree that Fire / Poison isn't really too interesting a type when it comes to competitive battling. Its only advantage is that it could be potentially cool.

Is there any other possible implementation of a Fire / Grass other than a Pepper, though?

What do you think about Fire / Psychic, gorm? I don't really know about any advantages either type gives to the other, but the cool factor is just huge.

Psychic implies huge ass movepool for me, and don't we all know how much Calm Mind Entei could have done? It gives you more of a reason to stack the Fire type with misc moves like Thunderbolt to take care of their offensive weaknesses.

Fire/Poison...nah. Poison is adding about zero things besides Toxic Spikes utility and such, but that is a poor compensation at best when you look at the extra weaknesses. The only Poison move a Fire type wants to use is Toxic.

Fire/Electric...rather than being painfully unoriginal and evolving Manectric, I'm thinking of electric devices that exhaust heat: radiators, cooking plates, perhaps even a lighter?

I don't really like a pepper Pokemon yet, but that could be my lack of fantasy. An eternally burning bush would be very obvious though.

I think it is best that we don't call this one right now. Fire has less than half the vote (44% at my last count) and less than twice the votes of electric (25% at my last count). We could probably exclude poison from the next poll (only 13%).
I'm kinda aware of the percentage and had thought about making a run-off poll for those two types. I all my time at this project, this is one of those few times I would like to see another poll for this, just to get a more clearer winner.

Since this is the first poll, and we have a news item on the Smogon front page -- I wouldn't mind if this first poll were left open for another day. It would give newcomers more of a chance to "get in on the ground floor" of this project.
I could leave this poll open for one more day if people actually want that to happen.

How bout a Toaster or Welding Gun?

I was doing to image search to find things that imply grass and fire. Explosion Tree?

Hard to say right now, I'd say give it another 5-6 hours and see if there are that many more votes, or if we've pretty much got them all. It can be decided then what to do.

I'd like to "Get in on the ground floor" of this project and say Poison because Poison seems to be a majorly underused typing in the current metagame.

Sorry about that GT. I expected you to know how the counts were turning out, but it looked like a lot of people were going with their guts instead of looking at the hard numbers.

signature electric attack with chance to burn?

I'd just take a cue from Avatar, and say a "Dry Lightning" Pokemon. Lightning causes fires too, especially if it's a dry place. Besides, those machines seem to imply Steel typing.

I must say I am really fond of the toaster idea, since it just seems like a great novelty. It seems to place a lot of emphasis on the Electric part though. If there's one thing it should learn, it's Heat Wave. :] I believe we're refraining from creating new moves as well.

But since it's likely going to be Fire/Grass (from what I've seen anyway) I'd keep your eyes open for that too.

I do know how the counts are going. I can show you the vote count right now if need be.

Static Burn lol

I don't think I'm explaining myself very well, and I'm terribly sorry for the misunderstanding (which is entirely my fault). I know that you know how the vote is going, and I never doubted that. At the time that I posted the count, it looked like other people thought fire was winning by a super majority or better, and a couple people commented that it was stupid to count. I never meant to imply that you don't know what's going on.

Is there any other possible implementation of a Fire / Grass other than a Pepper, though?

The main one we had before was a Sunflora evo with fire instead of petals, or something like that. Fire/Grass doesn't lend itself to a whole lot of concepts unfortunately.

I like the idea of a pepper btw, I just don't know how it'd turn out in the end. I don't like Toaster/Welding gun though, since as others have stated they'd be more steel than fire/electric.

Thinking of concepts, and I think it was GT who mentioned a porcupine? Either way, either a porcupine or a hedgehog would work well (as they're very similar in look).

There are two ways this creature could work. Either:
A) The body represents the fire element, and it's fur is a thin blaze. The quills would then represent the grass element, being essentially grass (fire grass perhaps, which I posted a picture of earlier).

or

B) The body represents the grass element, with it's fury being a form of soil or a thin grass-like substance. The quills would then represent the fire element, being either pure flames (seperate flames, not a single inferno), or burning grass.

Electric/Ice
Anything better than STABed BoltBeam?

I believe this is the sort of thing that the CAP project is trying to avoid, STABed BoltBeam is obviously overpowered and it will probably be avoided in this.

My vote would be either for Electric or Fire, just because those types need much more love in OU. Leaning on Electric because there are so few dual-typed Electric Pokemon and the only real usable ones are Zapdos and Magnezone. I would love to see another Water/Electric but because of Lanturn that would not happen, so I would be glad to see say... A Grass/Electric and Grass is another type that could be loved more, though I really cannot think of a good concept for it. :/

Fire/Grass is just fine with me, unique typing and could lead to an interesting move pool and stat lay out.

I propose a Wyvern like design if Electric wins, and make it Electric Dragon with Levitate. Alternatively, if this thing ends up being Fire/Electric, you could still use a wyvern for the design. Damn, after I thought about it last night I have really wanted a wyvern pokemon. Google it if you don't know what the hell I'm talking about.
