Unless the sky shaymin gets some new boosted stats, i don't see this thing doing much better than shaymin, weak to rock, 4x ice weak and neutral to electric aren't very good trades for the second typing.

Yeah, it gets just as many weaknesses from Grass/Flying as it does plainly being Grass. For those who are curious, Grass/Flying is weak to Fire, Flying, Ice (4x), Poison, and Rock. It becomes neutral to Bug and Electric.

I hope it does have something else going for it as well, other than just appearances and a slightly improved movepool. Maybe an alternate ability? Natural Cure is pretty nice, though.

You can bet on different stats. Really the only question is whether or not those altered stats will make up for the terrible typing. In all likelihood they won't. People will likely just use the enhanced movepool and revert it back to land form. Because honestly sky form would have to have some rockin' stats to make up for that typing. Like 130 base speed AND special attack.

Well, Flying / Grass does have some advantages- STAB on Air Slash, immunity to Ground, resists Fighting...

But it looks so damn ugly. I'm sticking to land form.

Maybe sky shaymin will have a signature move that's like a flying version of seed flare

This won't happen for compatibility reasons. It would have to be coded into Diamond/Pearl for link battles, unless Platinum can send a patch for it.

Well, considering that Deoxys could be traded to and used in R/S, and FR/LG or Emerald moves (Like Blast Burn or Volt Tackle, for instance) could be used with each other, the moves might be preset. And I think Deoxys had Psycho Boost in it's arsenal in Speed forme, though not in its other forms, before Emerald came out.

So, why couldn't they add new moves to Shaymin?

they can add new moves to shaymin's movepool, just not moves that don't already exist in the game.

it probably will have some new moves, but nothing that we haven't seen before.

As unlikely as it sounds, Aeroblast would be really awesome. :o

When paired up with Seed Flare, you've got something fearsome besides the low PP.

Though, Shaymin will still basically need HP Fire, as Steels wall it completely.

Again, I'm not positive, but Blast Burn and etc. didn't exist in R/S, yet you could use them in a battle between R/S and FR/LG. So why couldn't there be a new attack in Platinum that you could use in a battle between D/P and Platinum?

The attacks were in RS, they just were not teachable to any pokemon in anyway. All moves in this game have been found already.

Edit: This is the move order in the games data: http://veekun.com/dex/moves?gen=2

Blast burn was already a move and was not added to the end.

I'm not so sure about new stats. Part of me agrees that it will likely have new stats. However, on the other hand, I think that it may stay with base 100 in all stats, much like its Land forme as well as all the Pokemon similar to it (Manaphy, Jirachi, Celebi, Mew). We'll just have to find out, I suppose.

Alright, that makes sense. Thanks for pointing that out ;)

I think everyone can agree on one thing though; It seems as if, at the very least, Shaymin is obtainable in-game without the need of events. At least, I sure hope it is >.>

But it's been so heavily used in advertising for the game, it would only make sense that it plays a key role in the game's storyline. In fact, even the item that changes its form, Glacidia's Flower IIRC, is a play off of the word "Glacier" obviously something cold, like the climate which has been said to play a key role in the plot. Hopefully we won't need an event this time around, but =/

Perhaps there'll be a redistribution of statistics so that the BST is still 600 but without the even spread.

I think a redistribution of stats will occur, if only to make the type change a little bit more acceptable. Maybe raising Sp. Attack and Speed, and downgrading the defenses?

I just thought one thing. Because you can hack the game and find what it contains, like in RS at there was Blast Burn, why people haven't found Glacidia Flower inside the game or is it possible to add items awterwards?

I think different stats with the same 600 total is most likely. Maybe HP-80 Atk-120 Def-80 SpAtk-120 SpDef-80 Spd-120? My thinking is that they may want to stick with making the stats the same, in relation. Increasing both attacks, decreasing both defenses. It would make for a nice mixed sweeper and depending on just how much of an improvement its movepool gets would still likely be OU.

That item wouldn't be present in Diamond and Pearl. Shaymin only has a second form in Platinum, so the item you use to change its form is only in Platinum.

My guess is that that item will take the place of one of the items that exsits in DP but is not used. These items are (http://serebii.net/diamondpearl/items.shtml bottom of list):

Boat Ticket, Contest Pass, Magma Rock, Red Chain, Rule Book, Seal Sack, and Treasure Sack
