Does that mean that some of the sets that I have chosen from the selection of moves could be illegal? If that is the case, why do they leave the sets there like that?

I know that in the past shoddy let you select illegal moves combinations but I don't know if that has been fixed or not. I remember reading something about that a list with the common illegal sets was programmed into shoddy to prevent the user to select them but I really don't know if that fixed the problem in its entirety or only partially.
Regarding why do they leave it like that, let me remind you that shoddy battle is open source software and if you dislike something about it then you are completely free to look at the source code and modify whatever is bothering you about it. I don't think you or anybody has payed a cent for the software or playing in the servers so you don't have any reason to complain.
Illegal movesets aren't the only problem with shoddy, you could browse its sourceforge page and you will find tons of bug reports. Some of those bugs affect gameplay severely so if you are expecting perfection you will be better off playing on wifi with the games you actually bought with your money.

Question: What is "Shoddy", and Pokemon Competitor? Is there some online simulator for a battle? I hear so much about this, I feel leftout of the loop.

Shoddy Battle is pokemon battle simulator that lets you play with other people by making an account in a particular server. Their page is http://shoddybattle.com/ there you can find info on how to download it and start using it. Shoddy doesn't have anything to do with smogon but smogon does have a server of their own with their rules and tiers.
Competitor was the battle sim that was being developed by part of the smogon staff (I think it was chaos by I may be mistaken). I don't really now if it is still in production or not.

What are the odds of scoring a critical hit? What about when an attack like Night Slash is used or a pokemon with Super Luck ability? What about both?

Go to www.shoddybattle.com to find out what shoddy is. Everyone at Smogon likely knows what this is, so now you do too!

And Competitor ain't out yet... don't speak of it, but it's like shoddy

Grass Knot has a high BP on a lot of OU threats, it'll usually be at least 80 BP or higher.

I personally would use Grass Knot over Leaf Storm if you want all that coverage. Doesn't Leaf Storm lower your Sp. Attack? It'll water down when you use it the first time, Leaf Storm is like a one use Kamekazi attack like Draco Meteor, so keep that in mind. If someone sees it coming, you may be forced to switch because it may not do squat the 2nd turn and then you're forced to switch or die.
You could try it but I personally don't like the idea, Grass Knot is better IMO.

Energy Ball is OK solid 80 BP. I use it on my Roserade but the only reason is because of the people I face, Grass Knot wouldn't cut it that much. If you feel the same, use Energy Ball instead.

Thanks. I guess I do understand the whole thing you said first about the weight of OU threats. Does anyone know where I could get a chart that says the weight of each Pokemon, and not just the BP of the attack?

Also, the standard on the main site has Leaf Storm AND Grass Knot on the Specs version of Sceptile. Can anyone else tell me what you think of that? I see ShinyElite's point completely. Is it better to have Focus Blast, Hidden Power, Grass Knot, AND Dragon Pulse? Or should one be sacrificed for Leaf Storm?

Also... For Salamence, and even some Arcanine sets too... Why is Flamethrower preferred over Fire Fang, even on a physical set? In my opinion Fire Fang has a better effect, and if the Pokemon is holding a Choice Band, or is DD'ing/Howling, then why would Fire Fang not be the better option?

I believe its because it hits Skarmory harder. Skarmory has a much higher Defense than Special Defense so you use a special fire move to do more damage. Also does more damage to other Pokemon for this reason.

On the CBMence set: Fire Fang will 2HKO Metagross and even the bulkiest of Bronzong, but it fails to 2HKO Skarmory and bulky Jirachi, Fire Blast however, 2HKO's both.

What sort of IV combinations for Ubers are allowed on Shoody?
It would be pointless to list them all, but unless you plan to use HP (and even then it's pretty simple with some practise), It will inform you when it's an illegal IV set, and when you close the page (save your team), it will give you a list of options to fix them, such as lowering an attack IV by 2 or something minor like this.
Hope this helps.

Alright, so on a chat site I'm familiar with, there was an argument and I wanted someone to clarify this. Let's say Y player's Pokemon is asleep because of Yawn, but then X player decides to stay in and Yawn the next Pokemon as they switch. Was sleep clause violated? And no none of the Pokemon have Natural Cure.

If the person who has their second Pokemon Yawned keeps that Pokemon in, and it falls asleep, the Yawner automatically loses, for violating Sleep Clause. He or she isn't forcing a switch this way.

i have a team of scarf togekiss, scarf heracross, specs shaymin, sash weavile, a mixpert wall, and a forretress.
the forretress seems to never be able to set up well enough, and he just sits out most of the time (i have played 6 battles in the past few days and i haven't had to bring him out).
the question- what wall can replace forry? and please, don't give other suggestions for the team, i just want to know one wall.
im considering a curselax because he can take special hits REALLY well, which my purt can't, and curselax has always done good for me when i used him in past battles.
