CAP 5 CAP 5 - Part 3 (Secondary Typing Poll 1)

1. Grass
2. Fighting

Both I feel continue to break the mold (although grass does have Sceptile), and would also be useful defensive additions. The only reason I put Grass before Fighting is because I think Fighting would outshine Rock too much, and I want this guy to be a rock pokemon first and foremost. Grass / Rock has been done before, but only once, and by a very different pokemon, so I really don't think that's too much of a problem

1. No Secondary type.
2. Steel

These two choices make the most secure way to make sure that it is a Rock Sweeper instead of a *blank* sweeper. Steel gives Flash Cannon, which gives no coverage, forcing it to use Power Gem or whatever and No secondary type leaves it with no other STAB.

1. Grass
2. Normal

I liked the idea of voting for no secondary, but I though that double STAB would be more important. I also didn't want to pick a secondary type that would overshadow Rock. I was leaning to Fighting, but that and Rock have too similar type coverage. Grass cuts down on the weaknesses, and Normal adds some good movepool options.

Choice 1: Electric

I think that Rock/Electric would make a nice combo for what we are planning on doing, and if we focus on Rock typing instead of Electric, I think we can make a Rock-type.

Choice 2: Flying

I think Flying would be a good type, and I support the Special Aerodactyl idea.

For once I am against NST, for the same reasons that Tennis and Jagged already stated. Rock is not a dream typing on its own, and although I understand it ( should ) be a sweeper and thus should have exploitable weaknesses, it shouldn't by any means have weaknesses like pure Rock.

My vote is:

1. Ghost
People are really misenterpreting this typing. Gengar is not the ONLY Ghost-type. Ghost is more versatile a typing than that. It includes sweepers like Gengar, walls/tanks like Dusknoir and Spiritomb, bulky attackers like Mismagius, supporters like Froslass, Drifblim and Banette. Ghost has no stereotype. And with Fighting and Normal immunities, it stands a good chance of holding its own against the eversocommon Togekiss, which has risen in usage since the completion of CAP3.

2. Bug
Say nay now, naysayers, but this type actually fits as a special sweeper. Few resistences, a light number of abusable weaknesses to prevent it from becoming Garchomp. This could pull off the same "Technician + Ancientpower-esque move" role that Ghost could, which I think is something to get as excited about as BU Rev for its newness.

Fighting
Ground

Fighting seems like the PERFECT choice. It has a similar stereotype, it gets good coverage, it needs a special sweeper badly. Actually, I pretty much agree completely with Fishin.

Dark has already been done (tyranitar), bug isn't exactly the best secondary STAB option, and ghost, electric, and many others already have very prominent special sweepers.

I wanted to vote for Fighting as my second AND first choice. But, due to my extremely high intelligence and good judgement, I didn't. I really don't want anything but fighting at this point.

EDIT: ok, I see some reasoning for ghost and bug now (good job X), but not enough to change my vote. Also, I want to here Aldaron's reasoning for normal. It seems like a poor choice but I feel like I am overlooking something now. My second choice can easily be swayed.

Choice 1: Bug
Choice 2: Grass

Reason: They're the primary two types that cancels out a lot of ROCK's weaknesses. Bug/Rock only has 3 weaknesses, but is not good against Stealth Rock. Grass/Rock is good against Stealth Rock but weak against the omnipresent Ice moves.

BUG / ROCK is only weak to Rock, Water, and Steel. Water isn't seen as much except from Starmie's SURF. Steel moves aren't very common other than from Bronzong/Foretress's Gyro Ball, Metagross's Meteor Mash and Scizor's Iron Head.

GRASS / ROCK is only weak to Ice, Poison, Rock, and Bug. Poison isn't seen much at all while Bug's only are seen from the occasional X-Scissor, U-Turn and Bug Buzz from Yanmega. But of course, it would be inferior to Syclant, but it is CERTAINLY a thread to it as well since ROCK STAB is 4x effective.

ROCK / FIGHT has SIX weaknesses: Water, Grass, Ground, Steel, Psychic, and Fighting...

1. No secondary type
2. Fighting

I think a monotype anything would break the mold, as nearly every pokemon in the OU environment has two types. Making a Pokemon with only one type breaks this, right? But if we give it a second type I would think fighting goes with it well, giving a decent STAB.

Flying
No Seconrady Typing

Really wouldn't mind seeing where these two will lead us.

1. Ghost
2. Flying

I think Rock/Ghost would be interesting, as it keeps it's Flying resist; and it becomes immune to Fighting and Normal. You want something to counter Togekiss, this is a damn good start IMO.

As for Flying, I couldn't decide really between it and No Secondary Typing. Here's hoping for Air Slash access.

There are a lot of other types I wouldn't mind seeing it become. Bug would be interesting if not for the defensive properties alone. Dragon for the fanboy in us all.

I would say mostly anything but Ground and Steel...been there done that too many times. Even Water is stretching it, but at least that idea is great design-wise.

1. Grass
2. Electric

I voted Grass because of a certain post in the last primary type poll which I won't mention here for fear of poll jumping. That and I don't think a Rock/Grass type currently exists, so points for original typing? Electric because a Rock/Electric type should be cool, and it gives a nice 4x Flying resist. Quad Ground weak is crippling, but if Heatran could get around that...

1. No secondary typing
2. Steel

It would be nice to do monotype CAP for once, plus latino heat brought up a good point back on the first page for picking something with a similar stereotype. I like steel because there's really only two steel types that could be called "fast", Lucario and Jirachi. Both are not that fast and although they have good special attack, they are more often used with physical moves.

Cradily is Rock/Grass.
And I hope one of the reasons people are voting for bug isn't because of unique typing, because that's forgetting about Armaldo.

1) Fighting
2) Dragon

Originally I thought no second typing or bug because they harm the defenses least. Then I realized this will be an attacker and as sch he shouldn't be taking many hits. Fighting does well offensively next to rock and dragon is just a kind of anti-no-type vote.

1. Fighting
2. Dragon

Well, Dragon doesn't seem to be massively popular, and I'd also like to see a Fighting-type special attacker.

Choice 1: No Second Typing
Choice 2: Ground

From previous comments i believe its safe to say that people want a Rock based Special sweeper from this concept. For this to work and also to "Break The Mold" of rock types this pokemon will probably have to be fast and have good special attack.

With this in mind for the secondary typing i discarded all the types that already have this stereotype or have good examples of pokemon that fit this mold in OU of being either Fast or/and having good special attack. It is hardly " Breaking the Mold" is we have a fast, special sweeper then make it part electric or part ghost just like Gengar.

Normal- Porygon Z
Fire- Infernape
Water- Starmie
Grass- Roserade
Ice- Weavile
Fighting- Lucario
Bug- Yanmega
Dark- Houndoom, Weavile
Electric-Raikou
Flying- Togekiss
Ghost-Gengar,Mismagius
Poison- Roserade,Gengar
Psychic- Alakazam, Azelf

This left me with Rock/Ground or Mono Rock.
I agree entirely with latinoheat. (Have I done the impossible?)
