Choice Stall [WARSTORY] - Me vs. Earthworm

The positive comments on my other story encouraged me to write this... thx everyone for the comments on the other Warstory and for future comments on this.

BACKGROUND: This time I have one... Suspect Ladder, normal battle until I saw that there were 3 people watching my battle. 3 people? I'm unknown in the Smogon/Shoddy environment, I'm a pretty bad battler, so why were 3 people watching me? Then I read the name of my opponent... it was Earthworm! And I was playing against him with a full choice team! I hoped not to be destroyed 6-0 and started prayin... sorry, playing.

MY TEAM:

Porygon-Z @ Choice Scarf
Heracross @ Choice Scarf
Heatran @ Choice Scarf
Metagross @ Choice Band
Staraptor @ Choice Band
Salamence @ Choice Specs

NOTE: EARTHWORM'S TEAM WON'T BE REVEALED FOR NOW *SUSPENCE*. IF YOU WANT TO SEE IT, IT'S AT THE END OF THE WARSTORY.

Earthworm's moves will look like this.
My (Ahren's) moves will look like this.
Other text will look like this.

Rules: Ladder Match, Sleep Clause, Freeze Clause, OHKO Clause, Evasion Clause, Species Clause, Strict Damage Clause
Earthworm sent out Hippowdon.
Go, Porygon-Z!
Porygon-Z's Download raised its special attack!
Hippowdon's Sand Stream whipped up a sandstorm!
A sandstorm brewed!
Chen300 has entered the room.

I'm pretty sure he won't stay in since I downloaded my SpA and I can OHKO him with Ice Beam but, not knowing his team, I decided to use it anyway, since a 95 BP move with 600+ SpA hurts pretty much everything it is hit at least for neutral (except for Bliss obviously), and because I think his team is probably a stall one so IB is a better move than Tri-Attack because he could have a Ghost to absorb Rapid Spin.

Earthworm switched in Spiritomb.
Spiritomb is exerting its pressure!
Porygon-Z used Ice Beam.
Spiritomb lost 62% of its health.
The sandstorm rages.

NOTE: SPIRITOMB IS CARRYING LEFTOVERS.

Porygon-Z: 94% and his SpA downloaded.
Hippowdon: 100%.
Spiritomb: 38% and ready to run away.

Good situation for me, he has switched in Spiritomb to absorb my Tri-Attack but now he has a seriously wounded wall; I think now Earthworm is switching in an ice resist, but I'm just IBing again. I don't like to overpredict.

Earthworm switched in Heatran*. <- His Heatran is the marked one.
Porygon-Z used Ice Beam.
It's not very effective...
Heatran* lost 14% of its health.
The sandstorm rages.

Porygon-Z: 88% and still with the download boost.
Heatran*: 86% and laughing at Pory's Ice Beam.

At least I damaged him... Now I don't want to reveal my Heatran, so I'll just switch in Mence to take his fire attack and kill him back with EQ (Don't you say WTF? EQ on Specsmence? It's wonderful against Heatran and to fool the opponent you're using a physical Mence).

HeadHunter has entered the room.
dragonfruit has entered the room.
OK Pory, you were great. Come back. Go, Salamence!
Salamence's intimidate cut Heatran*'s attack!
Heatran* used Lava Plume.
It's not very effective...
Salamence lost 33% of its health. <- Yeah I can kill him even if he's Scarfed, he won't KO me!
Salamence was burned! <- Ok I can't kill him with EQ...
Heatran* lost 10% of its health. <- A LOHeatran... at least he's not Choiced.
The sandstorm rages.
Salamence was hurt by its burn!

Salamence: 55% and burned.
Heatran*: 76%.

Since he'll probably try to KO Mence with HO: Ice/Dragon Pulse I can switch in my Heatran and take the hit without problems unless it's a CH.

Earthworm switched in Gyarados.
Gyarados's intimidate cut Salamence's attack!
Go, Heatran!
The sandstorm rages.

NOTE: GYARADOS IS CARRYING LEFTOVERS.

Heatran: 100% and intimidated by the big Karp.
Gyarados: 100%.

Double switch. I'll switch again in Salamence to Intimidate him without any risk since he's probably DDancing or using Waterfall.

Earthworm switched in Hippowdon.
Hippowdon's Sand Stream whipped up a sandstorm!
Go again, Salamence!
Salamence's intimidate cut Hippowdon's attack!
The sandstorm rages.
Salamence was hurt by its burn!

Salamence: 37%, suffering for the burn.
Hippowdon: 100%.

Double switch, again? I'm again in a good position. Earthworm doesn't know if my Mence is physical or special and, since he can't lose his Hippo he should switch him out. Draco Meteor should hit hard the switch in.

Earthworm switched in Heatran.
Salamence used Draco Meteor.
It's not very effective...
Heatran lost 51% of its health. <- It was effective.
Salamence's special attack was harshly lowered.
The sandstorm rages.
Salamence was hurt by its burn!

Salamence: 18% and suffering for the burn.
Heatran*: 25%.

If he stays in, he'll be killed. If he switches, I could switch safely. I've the advantage again, I'll just hit something before dying to residual damage.

Earthworm switched in Hippowdon.
Hippowdon's Sand Stream whipped up a sandstorm!
Salamence used Draco Meteor.
Hippowdon lost 51% of its health.
Salamence's special attack was harshly lowered.
The sandstorm rages.
Salamence was hurt by its burn!
Salamence sacrificed itself for the team.

Earthworm 6 - 5 Ahren

Go, Porygon-Z!
Porygonz's Download raised its stats!
Porygonz's special attack was raised.

Porygon-Z: 88% and with the download boost.
Hippowdon: 55% and running away, again.

I think I'll use Tri-Attack now, he shouldn't switch in Spiritomb fearing another IB. If he does I can switch in Metagross, he should survive every attack Spiritomb has.

Earthworm switched in Spiritomb. <- Ok he did it.
Spiritomb is exerting its pressure!
Porygonz used Tri Attack.
It doesn't affect Spiritomb...
The sandstorm rages.

Porygon-Z: 82% and locked in Tri-Attack.
Spiritomb: 38%.

Forced to change Pory, I'll give Earthworm a free Rest... I hope it won't be fatal to me.

Go Metagross!
Spiritomb used Rest.
Spiritomb fell asleep!
Spiritomb restored 62% of its health.
The sandstorm rages.

Metagross: 100%.
Spiritomb: 100% and talking in the sleep.

Nothing difficult here, I'm just attacking him. EQ should be a 3HKO.

Metagross used Earthquake.
Spiritomb lost 48% of its health.
Spiritomb is fast asleep!
Spiritomb used Sleep Talk.
Spiritomb used Rest.
But it failed! <- Phew. Hax helped me this time.
The sandstorm rages.

Metagross used Earthquake.
Spiritomb lost 48% of its health.
Spiritomb is fast asleep!
Spiritomb used Sleep Talk.
Spiritomb used Will-o-wisp.
Metagross was burned! <- But this is a problem.
The sandstorm rages.
Earthworm's Spiritomb was killed by his ally :-)

Earthworm 5 - 5 Ahren

Metagross was hurt by its burn!
Earthworm switched in Forretress.

Metagross: 88% and burned.
Forretress: 100%.

Free turn for Earthworm. I hope he will use TSpikes... it will help Heracross! I'll switch in Heatran to destroy Forry.

Go, Heatran!
Forretress used Toxic Spikes. <- Yes! With 2 steels, 2 flyers and Hera they won't hurt me a lot!
Spikes were scattered everywhere!
Toxic Spikes were scattered around the foe's team!
The sandstorm rages.

Heatran: 100%.
Forretress: 100%.

I'm sure he's switching in Gyara, but I don't want to overpredict. Flamethrower can also burn the switch in.

Earthworm switched in Gyarados.
Gyarados's intimidate cut Heatran's attack!
Heatran used Flamethrower.
It's not very effective...
Gyarados lost 22% of its health. <- Better than nothing.
The sandstorm rages.

Heatran: 100%.
Gyarados: 78% and, obviously, NOT burned...

Time to force Gyarados out with Pory... He kills every Gyarados I see: they DD on the switch then try to attack me because they believe they're faster, and I kill them with TB.

Go, Porygon-Z!
Porygon-Z's Download raised its stats!
Porygon-Z's special attack was raised. <- Now I know he's using BulkyDos.
Porygon-Z was poisoned by the Toxic Spikes!
Gyarados used Waterfall.
Porygon-Z lost 48% of its health.
The sandstorm rages.
Porygon-Z is hurt by poison!

Porygon-Z used Thunderbolt.
It's super effective!
Gyarados lost 78% of its health.
Earthworm's Gyarados now is only dust.
The sandstorm rages.
Porygonz is hurt by poison!
Porygon-Z disconnected.
Earthworm 4 - 4 Ahren

Porygon-Z: Offline.
Gyarados: in the dust.

Earthworm switched in Hippowdon.
Go, Heatran!

Pory has done his job. Hippowdon again... I should kill him with FT.

Heatran used Flamethrower.
A critical hit!
Hippowdon lost 55% of its health.
Earthworm's Hippowdon was creamed.

Earthworm 3 - 4 Ahren

The sandstorm rages.
Earthworm switched in Heatran.

Heatran: 100%.
Heatran*: 25%.

I hope he doesdn't predict my switch and uses Lava Plume. If he does it I'll be screwed. If not, I'll have the edge on him again, and Heracross can sweep through his team with Guts boost.

Go, Heracross!
Heracross was poisoned by the Toxic Spikes!
Heatran used Rest.
Heatran fell asleep!
Heatran restored 75% of its health.
The sandstorm rages.
Heracross is hurt by poison!

Heracross: 82% + GUTS!

Please don't switch Forry out please don't switch Forry out please don't...

Earthworm switched in Celebi. <- Here is my favourite salad.
Heracross used Close Combat.
It's not very effective...
Celebi lost 29% of its health.

The sandstorm rages.

Heatran: 100%.

And here is my worst error: I predicted Earth Power and I decided to switch in Staraptor, but I misclicked and...

Heatran lost 10% of its health.
The sandstorm rages.

Ok Hera, it's enough. Go, Heatran!
Celebi used Recover.
The sandstorm rages.

Heatran: 88%.

PROS:

Earthworm for his team and the wonderful battle.
Staraptor, my brave bird.
My choice team for winning again.
FLAMEBOT. He was fantastic in this match.
Me: I remembered to ask Earthworm for the permission to wastory this!

CONS:

My Heatran for Exploding on FLAMEBOT.
Metagross. He died horribly.
My fear to overpredict.
Me: I'm too lazy and my comment at the end are shorter than the others...
HAX

And thx for reading the warstory.

Haven't seen specsmence in a while. Cool to see him tearing it up early game.

It was an OK warstory overall. I liked it personally

This was okay, but a tiny bit hard for me to follow. The match was well played by both of you though.

It was a legitimate win for you. Weather damage doesn't occur on the last turn; only recoil and Life Orb damage do.

Nice war story, good read. Oh, and thanks for not posting the opponents team until the end. I like not knowing the opponents team during the warstory.

It seems like the entire time you were afraid of overpredicting, but if you had done what you were afraid of, you would have done more damage, except for on the Tri-Attack to Spiritomb. Really, about halfway through this battle you should have realized Earthworm was playing very conservatively and just started nailing his switches with SE attacks instead of NVE ones.

about halfway through this battle you should have realized Earthworm was playing very conservatively and just started nailing his switches with SE attacks instead of NFE ones.

Lol not-fully-evolved attacks.

Anyway, I did end up reading the whole thing as it was an interesting battle with a unique style of play. However I thought the comments could have been a little more detailed, with more insight into how your mindset changed as the battle progressed and you saw more of the opponent's team, and how this influenced your choice of attack. That kind of analysis would have suited this battle in particular.

Maybe it's just me but that's the kind of thing I look for in a warstory. Anyway I'm being too harsh as this was a great battle that kept me entertained all the way through, so props to you.

offense vs. stall always does make me giggle. guys, choice teams are actually pretty cool. now what I'm drooling for is a choice vs. choice warstory. have you had any good battles with those? well anyways, when we battled, and evidently when you battled earthworm, you often fear overpredicting, which leads you into positions where you have to predict your opponent and get the next guy rather than the other way around, which is really what you need to do with choice teams for them to be successful. but other than that, great stuff.

edit:
I made an all-choice team and it's one of my favorite teams to date.

However, I've never faced another all-Choice team with it.
heh, this is how we played. unfortunately, I managed to figure out that he was afraid of overpredicting and capitalized on it, so it wasnt warstory material. but choice v choice is pretty crazy for both sides.
