Pokemon Platinum - The definitive thread: Mach 2 (In-Game Discussion)

Giving Salamence Outrage would be pretty retarded, but it wouldn't merit a ban in my mind. I mean yeah it'd be quite a bit more difficult to deal with but it's not like we don't already have Dragonite to handle and whatnot.

Salamence with Outrage would be beastly, but it is more easily handled thanks to Stealth Rocks, not having Sand Storm as an advantage, lesser special defense/HPs, and a little less base speed prior to Dancing (when compared to Chomp). Not to mention people will rarely be using his secondary STAB, unlike Chomp

uh swords dance

If there was a slack off tutor, snorlax would get it. It would be curselax all over again, but even worse. Well, he'd be status weak now, but immunity over thick fat, and you're fine from bad poison.

Edit: We need to lay off the Salamence, we're theorymoning about a move a pokemon may or may not get. Seems a little extreme to me. IF salamence gets it we can wait for some playtesting before even discussing it. I sort of started this, and I wish I could undo it.

Here's some music.

Giratina
Frontier Brain

Also, this guy in Veilstone tells you what your Pokemon's Hidden Power type is.

I.Love.the.frontier.music. Its an amazing remix of the emerald one.
Giratinas is a creepy cool remix as well.

Elsewhere theres people saying that there are 3 sets of move tutors, the ones we heard about and a third lot including outrage, seed bomb, gunk shot, gastro acid, endevour, and many others. All 3 are available in different cities in sinnoh not the frontier.

If it's confirmed, Punches, Vacuum Wave, Knock Off and Earth Power are mainly awesome! think of Poison Heal Thunder Punch Breloom, Ice Punch Aqua Jet Azumarill and Earth Power say Magmortar.

i need help from you guys.
i really wanna play it but i dont wanna go through a game where i cant read.
is it worth downoading an emulator and the game really i mean you guys supplie me with all the info. what do you guys think is it worth it or should i wait for the english rom?
salamences outrage is more important then me? damn i must suck =(

Well Salamence does have a few advantages tho. Resistance to fighting makes switching into Heracross and Lucario much easier, and Stealth Rock in itself is probably going to be a suspect, either way it is theorymon and I could have a Rapid Spinner. Another advantage he has are the resistances to water and grass, making switching into Celebi actually plausible, rather than Celebi switching into him. He also gets Roost, remember? Meaning with Dragon Dance, he can outspeed nearly everything and remove his rock weakness and make ice moves sting less. I know it isn't conventional, but he can run Yache Berry as well, I have used it to great success when they want to Ice Shard. The biggest issue of Salamence wouldn't be beating the Dragon Dancing sets, it will be figuring out which 4 powerful moves it is using, and which stat it is focused on. He can after all, abuse that massive special attack on a Choice Specs set with Draco Meteor, then the next second you find out he is Naive/Rash just for your Blissey to eat an Outrage. There are many feasible switchings, but which of them can risk taking a boosted Hydro Pump or Flamethrower from 110 base special attack? Not many that I know of. I think the set will just be the standard SpecsMence, with Outrage>Dragon Pulse and Modest to Rash or Naive.

Back on topic, Earth Power and Aura Sphere would be great tutors. Magmortar would be on even ground with Heatran, with the exception of the Stealth Rock weak and lack of sandstream immunity, both of which IMO are made up by Thunderbolt and a higher base speed, plus fighting moves for Blissey.

I think the ThunderPunch Poison Heal Breloom thing would be a huge waste. Think about it, Stone Edge deals life threatening blows to Gyarados anyways, plus it hurts Salamence a lot more. Seed Bomb does more to waters, and if you aren't running it, then Focus Punch does the same amount to all of them with the exception of Gyarados.

They need a special version of Quick Attack the retains the normal typing. I would love to destroy people with Nasty Plot Porygon-Z...

woah, sweet! Hidden Power adviser! Though I guess with AR's IV check, anyone with substantial breeding experience already is their own hidden power type advisor.

Er, Earth Power does lower SpDef...

I really like the back button on the Poketch and the Hidden Power guy *Hopes for similar IV guy*

Provided that it is true, it accounts for all of Origin Forme's moves. It is still a mystery how Wash Rotom learns Hydro Pump and Cut Rotom learns Leaf Storm, though.

I believe Rotom may learn those moves when it transforms.

Also,

Salamence with Outrage would be beastly, but it is more easily handled thanks to Stealth Rocks, not having Sand Storm as an advantage, lesser special defense/HPs, and a little less base speed prior to Dancing (when compared to Chomp). Not to mention people will rarely be using his secondary STAB, unlike Chomp.

You forgot to mention he's not immune to thunder wave, so we can slow it down too. Salamence will probably be better with Outrage than it was before, but still not nearly on Garchomp's level of nonsense.

I don't think that is the issue with Mence, BTW. The issue is clearly the versatility and immediate power that can't be countered within the first 10 turns of a game. That is gamebreaking as well, but in a different way.

well i just through my copy of emerald at the wall...ive been trying to play it for a year now and im at the fire gym...i get bored of adv with d/p out.
So is it possible that there is another set of tutors to teach counter though?
And has anyone got rotom yet?

Specs mence potential?

Earth Power ????
Draco Meteor
Fire blast/Flamethrower.
Dragon pulse/Hydro Pump

I would lol.

Torn world music is awesome.

I am not 100% sure what Earth Power on Salamence accomplishes except beating the rare Empoleon and kicking Heatran's ass even more...

Oh wow, potential Swords Dance + Leaf Blade + Gunk Shot Victreebel sounds really nice, even though Sceptile could still do it better. But Victreebel's one of my favorites so I love seeing it gain some power.

Eruption + (maybe) Earth Power Entei sounds great too.

Sceptile can't absorb Toxic Spikes, and it doesn't get Gunk Shot, which would be extremely useful in UU where all the other grassers are. Plus, it helps out sunny day teams, who have been outclassed by rain dance and sandstorm teams for ages.

EDIT: Whoa, Victreebel can learn Encore as well!
