Pokemon Platinum - The definitive thread: Mach 3 (Competitive Discussion)

havent been on here in about 2 months(and not being interested in pokemon) but with platinum coming out today i just had to check back. Outrage salamence is gonna be sick for me =)

@offensive team topic, but even without Garchomp around, there are plenty of powerful sweepers. If anything, several of these become even more powerful without garchomp around. Not to mention Shaymin and all the new moves . . .

In the offensive teams I've used in the past, the biggest problem I've had is with bulky water types. Now, Shaymin says, no. Eat 127 speed 120 sp.ATK seed flare Vaporeon, Milotic and Starmie. haha

every single quality offensive team posted in the rmt forum (just click the rating tab to see all the 4-5 star ones) has garchomp without exception.

...focus....punch???

max attack darkrai does less to blissey with the punches than max satk timid darrai does to her with nasty plotted dark pulse so ....

do some calcas next time? the only thing i can see being useful is fire punch and even then hp fire is probabaly a better option with nasty plot r_r

well, they would give darkrai a chance of making use of swords dance and ice punch might be better than beam in some cases such as against the latis. Even if they wouldn't be that useful I would still want darkrai to have them maybe for a surprise swords dance set or something.

EDIT: oh yeah and fire punch might be a little bit better than hp fire in some cases too

Something seems fishy, btw, about the Snowpoint move tutor.

Look at Pastoria and Survival area move tutors.

They both have some awesome moves that they are teaching.

Look at Snow Point. Snore, Spite, Helping Hand, Synthesis, Magnet Rise, Last Resort, Swift, Uproar

Magnet Rise, Synthesis and Spite are the only semi decent ones, and to be honest, they are competitively crap (sans Magnet Rise on a select few Pokemon)

Also note the significantly less number of moves he teaches.

Are we sure that these are all the moves he teaches?

I mean, compared to the other two he seriously lacking in quantity AND quality.

Ahhh good point Aldaron. I noticed that to and just thought oh well, won't go there..

But that doesn't explain why only Poliwrath gets Vacuum Wave thus far. There's gotta be more....

I assume plenty of other Pokemon (Lucario?) will get Vacuum Wave. The list so far is just Tutor moves that appear in the Battle Tower Pokemon list, excluding the ones that could also be learned via other means (including Emerald Tutors).

Um ludicolo can already get dive. All you have to do is trade the ludicolo with dive to frlg and transfer it up!
HM moves have to be deleted before transfer to D/P/P.
I'd imagine Ludicolo gets Dive this gen from Tutors too...unless Gamefreak stopped putting crazy drugs in the coffee.
In which case, YET ANOTHER NEW OU POKEMON.

I'm kind of really tempted to try out

Azelf @ Choice Band
-Zen Headbutt
-Fire Punch
-U-Turn
-Trick / Explosion

looks like fun, just look out for pursuiters lol. Jolly max attack CB Zen Headbutt always 2HKOs max/max+ Blissey (which nobody should be using anyway) with Stealth Rock down, and has about a 50% chance without. Fire Punch 2HKOs any Bronzong that doesn't run max/max+, which again is uncommon. U-Turn can do up to 60% to max HP TTar, which is always pretty cool, and Explosion OHKOs just about everything. Still outclassed by Special Azelf due to lack of Swords Dance, but it at the least gives him some more unpredictability.

also, predicting Trick Gengar is going to be a major major bitch, as if Gengar wasn't bad enough to begin with
