Pokemon Platinum - The definitive thread: Mach 3 (Competitive Discussion)

Vileplume @ Leftovers / Salac Berry
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -Sp.Atk)
Trait: Chlorophyll
EVs: 252 Atk, 252 Spd/HP
- Seed Bomb
- Return
- Drain Punch / Substitute
- Swords Dance

Seed Bomb finally gave Vileplume some physical offense to work with, even though it's movepool is still limited.

This is more of a gimmick than anything, but opinions?

People need to realize that none-STAB Outrage is not good.. Speaking of Outrage, does anyone know if Dialga/Palkia/Arceus(dragon) gets it?
EDIT: @Flurries I prefer Bellossom as it has better SpD and ground resist, but yeah it can work with v'plume as well.

Articuno has a move pool now! Not a big one, but at least more than IB + HP-Blank. Ice Beam + Signal Beam + Aircutter/ominous wind/HP + Roost = Bulky sweeper 'cuno? Or at least better 'cuno than before.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Thunderbolt/Heat Wave as Zapdos's only two attacks. With Garchomp gone, the most prevalent resistor of the combination is out of the picture and at the same time, one of the best reasons to use HP Ice is also out of the picture. Salamence is 2HKO'd by T-Bolt and Grass types are hit harder by Heat Wave. Ground types atleast take less at least, and Swampert walls you. Then again, Swampert always walled T-Bolt/HP Ice Zapdos.

What's probably more refreshing is that Heat Wave may actually have some form of use now.
You might even see Thunderbolt/Heat Wave/HP Grass. That seems pretty plausible to me.

Gallade already got the Punches, it's now just more obtainable as previously they were Emerald tutor moves.

Tauros doesn't get STAB with Outrage, it does more currently with Return. :\
But now Shadow Sneak+Punches is a legal move combination.

Did Smogon quit competitor or is it post-poned?

I think that would be the best way for Platinum metagame to start, with competitor and platinum updates, etc.

On-Topic: I'm curious how much offensive teams will increase in usage, and if any new gimmicky sets will arise and actually take a bit of control.

Damn...the metagame is going to be completely flipflopped. It's testing everything out all over again. Remember when Garchomp wasn't used on Shoddy?

There definitely needs to be more research on Vacuum Wave. GameFreak also just made Dragonite completely useless unless it's a Superpower CBer : (. Zapdos is going to be very popular offensively now with Heat Wave. Seriously, Outraging Venusaur? Yet no Suckerpunching Hitmonchan (I wanted it soooooo bad!!!)? Golem got a little somethin' somethin' too.

I actually see Donphan being more used now...Earthquake, Ice Shard, Stone Edge, Superpower, Gunk Shot, and Seed Bomb... It's got quite a few powerful moves and Seed Bomb makes Swampert think twice before switching in.

@offensive team topic, but even without Garchomp around, there are plenty of powerful sweepers. If anything, several of these become even more powerful without garchomp around. Not to mention Shaymin and all the new moves . . .

In the offensive teams I've used in the past, the biggest problem I've had is with bulky water types. Now, Shaymin says, no. Eat 127 speed 120 sp.ATK seed flare Vaporeon, Milotic and Starmie. haha

Timid Life Orb Celebi is fun too though :(

Either way, if you run a stall team, you better carry some bulky ass special stuff to go against Shaymin
