Pokemon Platinum - The definitive thread: Mach 3 (Competitive Discussion)

Hmm, thinking about the possible new egg moves. Someone should test Volt Tackle Luxray or Electivire :3 That'd be pretty nice.

OR someone can test the egg move Flare Blitz on Entei </3

Guys the "Firefly light" thing is the lamest excuse/explanation ever. :/ Manaphy is not a freakin' firefly and it gets it, and like sanjay said, even Illumise doesn't get it, even though her ass does glow in PMD2 and the anime. Gamefreak really just neglected/screwed up a few pokemon like Flareon.

IMO, someone should try to breed a Electivire couple with the male holding Everstone.

Who knows, if it worked with Pikachu holding Light Ball, it might work with Everstone for other pokémons...

@Flurries >.> He was obviously being sarcasting. You do see the "</3" (broken heart) sign, don't you?

@Sudo-- fine, would you be happy if Nintendo called it called the "Manaphy's +2sATK so we can toute him around and make tons of money on manaphy movies and merchandise" instead of "firefly light" ? It's obviously they meant it to be an exlusive move so leave it be. I mean, how many grass pokemon wish they had seed flare?

edit: I just got out-predicted by an in-game character. >.>

A Gyarados with Ice Fang just Aquatailed my infernape switch in from Garchomp. >.<

Thank you Chou :)

And yea, I sort of think there will be new egg moves.

Were there any new ones in Emerald ?_?

There are so many possibilities I'd just wait for someone with rom hacking knowledge to figure out all the new egg moves, if any exist.

Pokesav turns your OT into ?'s, guess I can't pump my turtle with steroids :P

Magnet Rise if Ampharos gets it will be a humongous boost to it, Amphy is already one of the bulkiest Pokemon in the entire game but its weakness to ground and lack of moves has always let it down.

Yay! Electrolevitate/Thunderbolt/Thunder Wave/HP Ice? :D

And thanks for the info dbolt! ^_^

I still say Amphy and Illumise should get Tail Glow... Will-o-wisp's Japanese name is Ghost Light and non-ghost Pokemon still get it. >_>

There were not, to my knowledge, any new egg moves introduced in either FRLG or Emerald - though the former did make some prexisting ones legal (e.g. Pain Split Dusclops). Crystal was the last time they added new ones, so I wouldn't be too hopeful.

I probably won't use Outrage on Salamence personally. Salamence's strength has always been cleaning up mid game (when your opponent's walls can be killed by +1 LO Dragon Claws/EQs) and giving him Outrage doesn't really help this. Sure, he'll be able to attempt a sweep earlier, but locking into one move isn't a good idea when Salamence dies to any Ice Attack or Gyro Ball...

Weavile, Mamoswine and Bronzong come to mind as problems if you outrage early.

;o.o Of course I did...

Also, I propose that whoever can check Move Tutor moves should go to the Shoddy Usage Stats, and make sure that the first 10 or 20 on each list (OU, UU, etc.) have been checked, if they haven't already. I assume they will draw most of the requests.

Skittle, Chou, don't you worry. I can already see people abusing Outrage Mence early on, just to get beaten down by a Seed Bo-I mean, Ice Shard Donphan...

IMO, Outrage is really a late game move. Garchomp could use it well when steal types were too weak to handle him anymore. Salamence fails at late game in so many ways-- SR weak, Sandstorm damage, LO damage . . . plus with his great resistances/immunities and intimidate, he's a much stronger early/mid pokemon, and wall breaker rather than all-out sweeper. Outrage doesn't help this. Even the DD strategy is overall better off with Dragon claw. I'm sure someone will figure out good sets to abuse Outrage's all-out power, but overall I think Salamence is not strengthened all that much by it.

edit: Well, if anything, it'll mean more idiot switch ins by the opponent. People will be scared so shitless of the prospect of Outrage that they'll be that much more willing to make that retarded Jirachi switch in to Mixmence's Fire Blast.

Makes sense to me. All of can eat seeds which they can use to execute seed bomb.

Outrage on Venusaur makes a bit of sense since it looks like some kind of a forest like lizard....

Really, Chou? I used Salamence as a fighting type switch-in early game, and then later on, when their walls were weakened, I would do a quick DD and clean up until Salamence ran out of juice.

This was of course on Wifi, where Sandstorm was less prevelant. And I used Leftovers. On Shoddy I used Garchomp because Salamence wasn't doing too hot.

I can see Outrage being good on CBmence, but that's pretty much it. Being able to outrun everything and hit them with the right moves is where DDmence really shines.

Bad logic. Will-o-wisp is a Fire-type attack, so obviously Fire-types will learn it. The only non-Ghost, non-Fire-types that can learn Will-o-wisp are Pokémon with ghostly qualities, or that can learn pretty much anything in the case of Mewtwo, Mew and Arceus.
